Favorite Death Scenes
This might be...

This might be the spoiler post of the century, but I made a few "favorite" posts a while back, and I thought I'd continue with a rather morbid topic: death scenes. As I said, this thread is going to contain waaay too many spoilers, but I am rather a fan of killing off characters in my own stories (I already said I was wicked, diabolical and villainous in another thread), so I thought I create a post dedicated to those poor departed souls. It doesn't have to be restricted to books, either; if there is a particularly astonishing scene in a movie, for instance, feel free to post that.

To begin: *spoiler of Percy Jackson*

My favorite is Luke Castellan's. Ever. Because he sacrifices himself for the good of his old friends, and to save the world. He has always been one of my favorite book bad guys. I've always felt for Annabeth because she had to chose between him and Percy, although she really didn't have that much of a choice.

*spoiler of Fellowship of the Ring*

This is pretty much the only substantial death in the entire series, and it is Boromir's. I think it was better done in the movie than the book, but that was only because they had to ham it up a trifle.

I've got to get offline now, but I'll think of a few more for later!

OMG Two Princesses of Bamarre.  GAH.

*Hunger Games spoilers*

Suzanne Collins has to kill off my five favorite charries: Cinna, Rue, Prim, Finnick, and... there's someone else.  I forget.  Not my favorite.  I cried when Cinna died.  Cinna...

*Book Thief spoilers*

Again, wouldn't consider this my favorite, but the big death scene where literally EVERYONE dies is so sad.  Meh.

*The Princess and the Frog spoilers*

This is a movie, not a book, but I was soooo sad when Ray died.  To continue on my Disney deaths *Lion King and Brother Bear spoilers* I always cry when Simba pokes Mufasa and tells him to wake up and when Sitka and then Koda's mom die.

Basically, I never consider a death scene my favorite, because I always flippin cry.  But those are definitely the most memorable.

I can't think of any of my favorites right now, but some good ones are:

The Westing Game: *spoiler* Sam Westing's death. It's very, very pleasant to see Sam Westing passing off his role to Turtle in his final scene.

The Underneath: *spoiler* Grandma Moccasin's death, because she's finally happy for the first time in a thousand years.

The Evillious Chronicles (which I know nobody cares about): It's a song, but Rilliane's death is very, very sad and for some strange reason not canon. I have no idea why.

Grave of the Fireflies: *spoiler* The sister's death is so amazingly sad. The whole thing is amazingly sad. Wait a minute, this isn't a book either! Well, close enough. Grave of the Fireflies is very good, if monumentally sad.

The Lion King *spoiler*

Oh my goodness, Mufasa's death was just so sad! I was crying like crazy during that whole part!

Also, I just saw Lincoln last night and starting crying when, right before Abe Lincoln goes to Ford's Theater, he says, "I must go, but I would rather have stayed."

Zoe Nightshade's death in Percy Jackson was really sad, but I thought it was well-written.

*Spoiler for Doctor Who, even though this is a tv show DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T GOTTEN UP TO THIS YET* -I was SO sad when Amy sacrificed herself when Rory got taken by a weeping angel. D:

*END OF SPOILER

Lately I've been reading books without deaths. Wow... the characters are near death but they don't die...

The Heroes of Olympus- The House of Hades

I thought Iapetus (Bob) died a very sad death. *spoiler* He died just so the others could live.

I loved how Bob chose Percy and Annabeth. I also liked how Small Bob Turned into a huge cat. And just saying I am obsessed with the Percy Jackson series.

Sherlock is a tv show but I thought I would mention it.

*spoiler*

I've watched the last fifteen minutes of The Reichenbach Fall 3 times because I just can't get over it.  I even made Blu watch it.  I think it's so sad when Sherlock dies, even though I know he's coming back.  I think it's especially sad when he's standing on the roof crying because he never shows emotion and when Watson talks to his gravestone, it breaks my heart.

I always cry.  I'm so freaking emotional it annoys me.  I was in a funk for half of the day the other day mouring the fake death of a fake charrie.

I wish Rowling didn't have to kill Lupin and Tonks. I bawled like crazy when I realized they died. It was so sad. Sirius and Fred were bad enough; then Dumbledore until I read the Snape chapter, but Lupin and Tonks was too much.

I love how Mrs. Weasley killed Bellatrix, though, and her classic, albeit profane, line.
