Official What Katy Did book club page
This is the...

This is the official What Katy Did book club page! I'm excited in doing my very first book club, and I hope that everyone who signed up is too. Here are the details, guidelines, and information that you should know about the book club. Book club begins Sunday, November 17th.

-The only ones who have signed up are the only ones who can post here. This makes it easier for me and for everyone who is in the book club. It will help me and other book club members from being distracted or being off topic. It will also help me from not getting confused in who's in the book club and who's not.

-Be nice, fair, and respectful to book club members. Please be courteous of other members! It is the key for a successful book club. If you disagree with something, you can talk about it, but disagreements should be kept fair. Also, it also means to not share information and spoil exciting things that happen later in the book. Let the book club members burst with curiosity about what will happen next!

-Be sure to frequently check this page for updates. This page will be updated frequently. As member, you should be active on this page and look for important updates that you will have to know.

-Assignments will be posted below. Your weekly assignment notes will be posted below. Typed assignments should be replied to my assignment note. Everyone will have one week to complete the assignment. Again, please check this page everyday for updates!!

As a reminder, here is a list of the people who have signed up. Book club members may post on here.

Nina,

I can't do the assignment since I still don't have the book. I'll let you know when I get it, but may I have an extension for the assignment since I literally cannot do it?

Thank you and happy reading!

Assignment 1:

1. Describe Aunt Izzie. Is she strict or motherly to the Carr children?

Aunt Izzie is definitely strict with the Carr children, but I think is mostly like that because she doesn't fully understand them. The Carr children behave differently than she did as a child, so she feels like it is her job to straighten them. I do also think that Aunt Izzie cares about the Carr children, otherwise she wouldn't try to make them 'better' people.

2. What is Katy's personality like? How does she act?

Katy is imaginative and rambunctious. She often acts without thinking of the consequences, though she always feels remorse afterwards.

3. Describe some of the games Katy and the Carr children play.

One of the games Katy and the Carr children play is called Kikieri. Kikeri is a mixture of blindman's bluff and tag, but instead of being blindfolded, they play in the dark. This game was banned by Aunt Izzie about a year ago, but when Aunt Izzie leaves, the kids decide to play it anyways.

The other game they play is a water game. Each child is a river except for Katy. She is Father Ocean. The rivers would weave around desks in the classroom and bump into each other, because sometimes rivers cross each others path. Occasionally, Katy would call out "Now for a meeting of the waters!" and all the rivers would scramble to meet Father Ocean.

4. What you think the author means when Katy gets into a lot of scrapes?

I think that the author means Katy often gets into trouble without meaning to.

1) Describe Aunt Izzie. Is she strict or motherly to the Carr children?

Aunt Izzie is motherly as she can get towards the children, but she wants what is "good for them" and may be described as stict in that way.

2) What is Katy's personality like? How does she act?

Katy is a person who will act before thinking, a tomboy who is creative. She will do reckless things, which will sometimes lead to . . . misfortune.

3) Describe the games that Katy and the Carr children play (example: "Kikeri" or the water game that Katy plays at school.)

Kikeri is a game much like hide and go seek, but is playyed in the dark, threrefor giving it a much more creepy aspect.

Rivers is a game where she and her schoolmates will each act as a river, and all come to the big ocean when the time is called.

In both of her games, Katy will act before thining, and usually get quite carried away.

4) What do you think the author means when Katy gets in a lot of scrapes?

She gets in trouble quite alot.

Please, Nina! I'm just itching to read more of the book! Please post our next assignment!!!

Um, I just wanted to say, I don't think I'll be able to get the book anytime soon. My library doesn't have it at all, so my parents would have to buy it and I don't thinkt hey are going to do that until Christmas at least. So I guess I can't participate in this :(

I'd really like to, but I really can't, so just saying! Sorry.

Corina, it's ok and I understand! Thank you so much for telling me, instead of keeping it to yourself. I'm sad that you're unable to participate in this book club, but I hope to host another one sometime next year. If I do, I would post the sign up sheet sometime in late December. Then, if anyone signs up, I will require them to have a book. That way there will be no hassle.

Happy reading!

Assignment #2

12/7/13

Your second assignment is to read Chapters 6-10 of What Katy Did.

There will be no questions to answer, but in a week or so we will have a few character and setting chats and you can give your feedback of the book about what you've read so far. You have had to read Chapters 1-10 in order to participate in the chats. Posts about that will be coming up soon! Please be checking!

Once you have read Chapters 6-10, please comment so I know how many people still need to complete the assignment.

Happy Reading! :)
