This is the
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
This is the official What Katy Did book club page! I'm excited in doing my very first book club, and I hope that everyone who signed up is too. Here are the details, guidelines, and information that you should know about the book club. Book club begins Sunday, November 17th.
-The only ones who have signed up are the only ones who can post here. This makes it easier for me and for everyone who is in the book club. It will help me and other book club members from being distracted or being off topic. It will also help me from not getting confused in who's in the book club and who's not.
-Be nice, fair, and respectful to book club members. Please be courteous of other members! It is the key for a successful book club. If you disagree with something, you can talk about it, but disagreements should be kept fair. Also, it also means to not share information and spoil exciting things that happen later in the book. Let the book club members burst with curiosity about what will happen next!
-Be sure to frequently check this page for updates. This page will be updated frequently. As member, you should be active on this page and look for important updates that you will have to know.
-Assignments will be posted below. Your weekly assignment notes will be posted below. Typed assignments should be replied to my assignment note. Everyone will have one week to complete the assignment. Again, please check this page everyday for updates!!
As a reminder, here is a list of the people who have signed up. Book club members may post on here.

Dear book club members,
Yay! Book club starts today! I'm so excited and I'm looking forward to it. Look for the first assignment later today, maybe in the afternoon since I have no time to post it this morning.
Before we start, I would like to know who has a copy of the book and who doesn't. You can also download a digital copy of the book if you have a tablet, too. There's no need to go to the store and buy one too. You can also visit your public library and borrow the book. Just know that you may have to renew it since I don't know when the book club will finish.
if you don't have your own book, a digital copy, or a library book, please let me know so I can excuse you if you're a little late completing the assignment. Please to get one ASAP! You don't need to tell me if you have a copy of the book already.
First assignment will be posted later today! Be on the lookout!
Happy Reading ❤

Nina,
I am going to borrow the book from my local library ASAP, but right now unfortunately I do not have the book. However, I can download the first chapter on my computer so at least I can complete the first assignment. I'll let you know if I need any more time, but I think for today I'll be fine.
Happy reading,
Nora the Singer

I'm really excited for this!!
Unfortunatly, I don't have the book yet. I'll probably get it either on Tuesday or Thursday, depending on when my mum will take me to the library. :( Well, anyways, I'm really excited!!!

Assisgnment #1 note
11/17/13
Your first assignment is to read Chapters 1-5 of What Katy Did. Next, after you read, answer the following questions. Please answer the questions with complete thought.
1) Describe Aunt Izzie. Is she strict or motherly to the Carr children?
2) What is Katy's personality like? How does she act?
3) Describe the games that Katy and the Carr children play (example: "Kikeri" or the water game that Katy plays at school.)
5) What do you think the author means when Katy gets in a lot of scrapes?
Assignment is due next Sunday, November 24th. This typed assignment should be replyed to this assignment note.
*Try this! Using the descriptions of the Carr children that you will read in the first chapter, draw your own portrait of the Carr children. If you would like, you can post it along with your answers to the questions.
(November 17, 2013 - 2:23 pm)
Oh gosh, I don't even have to refer to the book to answer these. I've ready What Katy Did, and the sequel books SO many times, I know it by heart! I even wrote a book review for this that was published in Cricket!
1) Describe Aunt Izzie. Is she strict or motherly to the Carr children?
Aunt Izzie is a rather strict woman toward the Carr children, but mostly because that's the way she was raised, and can't understand why the children act, well like animals at times! Especially poor, dear, sweet Katy! But it's evidently displayed throughout the story that she does care for the children, just in her own way.
2) What is Katy's personality like? How does she act?
Katy is very rambunctious, and headstrong. She doesn't ever mean any harm, but she always manages to get into trouble. She "leaps before she thinks", often dragging her sibling or friends along with her. But Katy is also very sweet and fun. She just has a wild imagination!
3) Describe the games that Katy and the Carr children play (example: "Kikeri" or the water game that Katy plays at school.)
At school, while the school teacher is away, Katy invents a game called Game of Rivers. Each girl is a river, and was instructed to move and weave around, making river noises and occasionally run into each other because "that is what rivers do". Naturally, Katy is "Father Ocean," where she would occasionally shout "Now for a meeting of the waters!" where the girls would promptly turn, and with quite a bit of noise and shouting, would run to "Father Ocean".
4) What do you think the author means when Katy gets in a lot of scrapes?
Namely, it's trouble. Katy, with her heedlessness, is always jumping into things without thinking, often results in her getting into trouble.
Geez, I'm glad it's What Katy Did! I've spent SO LONG asking people to read this! The only other person I know of that's read before now was True.
(November 17, 2013 - 9:15 pm)
I'm working on getting the book. Our library doesn't have it so I have to interloan. I probably won't get it before Thanksgiving. :(
(November 19, 2013 - 8:14 pm)
I have to wait for it to come in from the library, too. Hopefully, it's available so all they have to do is ship it to my hold location. I can't wait!!!

UPDATE:
Those of you who don't have books yet, it is ok! But please try to get it by next Saturday! The chapters are kind of long, but answering the questions should be very easy for all of you. If for some reason you can't get the book by next Saturday (NOT this upcoming Saturday, November 23) we will have to work something out. But I would much rather have everyone to have the book by next Saturday.
Once you have the book, please let me know!
Happy Reading!

I've read it once before, but am hoping to get the book before answering the questions. Don't worry, I should have it my Friday. :)
(November 20, 2013 - 6:34 pm)
True: Thanks for telling me! Once you have the book, it shouldn't take very long to read the chapters assigned and answer the questions.
This goes for EVERYONE: read and complete assignments in a timely manner! You also have to keep up with updates and new assignments!

I'm not too late am I??
1) Describe Aunt Izzie. Is she strict or motherly to the Carr children?
I think she's both. She means well though.
2) What is Katy's personality like? How does she act?
She is very impulsive and acts on how she feels right then.
3) Describe the games that Katy and the Carr children play (example: "Kikeri" or the water game that Katy plays at school.)
It seems that they mostly play games that Katy thinks up out of her head. They require imagining.
5) What do you think the author means when Katy gets in a lot of scrapes?
I think the author means that she gets into trouble and causes little problems a lot.
(November 20, 2013 - 8:55 pm)
Violet: No, you're not late at all. Good job!
(November 21, 2013 - 5:39 am)
Finally! I'm sorry I took so long, Nina. :)
1) Describe Aunt Izzie. Is she strict or motherly to the Carr children?
Strict, especially compared to their father, but it's because she doesn't understand them, and has a hard time understanding different kinds of children, her being a model one.
2) What is Katy's personality like? How does she act?
Katy is very rambunctious, obviously. She has no concern for appearance or "outisde" features. So she has no care at all for clothes, or beauty, but she has a very strong conscience, a great imagination, and compassion for others.
3) Describe the games that Katy and the Carr children play (example: "Kikeri" or the water game that Katy plays at school.)
I'm not exactly sure what this means. Do you want us to describe the ways to play them, or describe the affect\nature, etc of them? Katy's games are made a lot without thinking of the consequences, which is why she falls into trouble a lot, but she shows amazing imagination in thinking them up.
5) What do you think the author means when Katy gets in a lot of scrapes?
Katy falls into a lot of trouble, though not because she's a bad kid. She has a very active mind, and she's very smart and hardy, and has a very wild spirit, which often makes her overlook the consequences of her actions, and the affects her rough play have on the people and things around her.

UPDATE:
This update is very important! Today is Saturday, November 23rd and so far only 3 people have completed assignments: Blonde Heroines Rule, Violet, and Blackberry E. Next Saturday, November 30th or Sunday, December 1st I will change the assignment and post a new one. Please be on the lookout!
I am assuming everyone has a copy, digital or paper, of the book already.
If you still haven't completed Assignment #1, you have to complete that before you do Assignment #2! I would like this book club to go smoothly and finish before holiday break, so please be sure to keep up with me. You still have one week to do the assignment if you haven't done so!
Happy Reading!
