Okay, okay, I
Chatterbox: Blab About Books
Okay, okay, I know there are probably like a million threads about Percy Jackson. I also know their are RPs, RRs, ect. about it. But I want a thread were you can just talk about all the aspects of the books (all of them!), quotes, characters, and all that other stuff. And no talky about Heros of Olympus. I haven't read them and I am choosing not to suffer with my siblings and read them after the last book comes out (my older sister is dieing waiting for it. I'm already almost dead from waiting for The Red Winter and for more Max, not to mention dieing over how the after The Princess of Trelain isn't out and I can't have my Calen back til NEXT YEAR! I badly need that book. I don't need to die over Percy too.). So no mentions, because, I HATE spoilers.
Well, anyway, all Percy's fans, unite! Hope you guys like this. If you don't, no one needs to know about it. . .
I need to eat!!

*WARNING* ONCE YOU GET ME STARTED ON THIS SERIES, YOU CANNOT SHUSH ME UP!
Okay, my gosh, I'm such a HUGE MONSTROUS FAN of this series!!!! Give me a topic with them, and I'll talk, (possibly without stopping). *spoilers ahead*
My number one favorite character is Annabeth! She's the one who got me calling myself Blonde Heroines Rule! She's an excellent balance of natural human reactions to things, while holding it together. She's smart, but not too overly excessively smart. She isn't full of herself, though has a healthy knowledge and appreciation of her intelligence. She not completely romance stricken, and actually doesn't really come to like Percy in any obvious way until the final two books. Even then, it was overboard. She's a great female role model, and knows how to keep a level head. She knows her limitations, but is absolutely determined. And the best part? She can kick her boyfriend's butt. What's better in a heroine?
Book 1:
It was great, and I loved it! It was really funny, as all the books RR writes has an excellent balance of comedy and seriousness. But my one issue with it was I thought RR made the characters a little too mature for their circumstances. I mean, their only twelve. Yes, their like that throughout the whole series, and your pretty much used to it by book 2, but it still kinda makes you raise an eyebrow. Other than that, no faults with it.
Book 2:
I've had some people say this was their least favorite book, but I loved it! It delved more into each individual character, and let you get to know them better. It really helped gear you up for the rest of the series. Knowing Percy's fears and his fatal flaw, Annabeth's hopes and her fatal flaw, getting to know Luke better and just why he was so bitter, and it really helped you feel the anger, sorrow, agony, and other emotions the characters started struggling with, and would always struggle with throughout the rest of the series.
Book 3:
Was awesome! I loved the Huntresses, getting to know Thalia, who ties with Percy and Tyson (you just GOT to love Tyson!) for my second favorite character JUST below Annabeth. Though, I thought Bianca's death was ridiculous and pointless the way it happened. It was "necessary" but it was one of those things that it was only necessary because the writer put that situation in there. It wasn't really a heroes death, despite her saving her friends. That's the only thing that made it a heroes death. But I felt Zoe's death was awesome! I mean, I nearly bawled! I cried, and I was SO sad, but as far as death's go, that was just awesome (if that makes any sense). Zoe was an awesome character, and her and Thalia's relationship at the end just set me to tears. I thought Appolo was hilarious, Artemis just a little too stuck up, and yeah, Bianca was also a little annoying. But I LOVED Annabeth's dad coming in and saving them. That was great.
Book 4:
This was my least favorite. It had some very key scenes, but most of it was just fillers. I mean, a lot of it was them being mad, Hera and the other Olympians messing with them, Pan dying (which was good and bad, but too dragged out), Grover started dropping off in the series, and it was all just annoying. I was okay with it the first time we read it through, but I have to force myself to read it when I reread the series. Though, I liked the battle at the end.
Book 5:
Might be my favorite book! EVERYTHING in it was AWESOME!!! I mean, just look at any single person's epic battle scene, and you can tell, it's great. Clarisse was awesome, Nico and Hades' coming and the whole "Hello father. You're looking... young." line was awesome, Annabeth giving Percy the knife and taking the blow for him was awesome, "you are not the hero," was awesome, Rachel was awesome, Hestia was awesome, Luke was AWESOME, everything was! Did I mention the book was awesome? But anyway, I can't think of any faults with the book off the top of my head, so yeah, it was great!
@ Ashlee: If you read this, you should read Percy Jackson. Not necessarily Heroes of Olympus, or Kane Chronicles, because they're simply not as good as Percy Jackson and the Olympians! But consider it, they're SO good!

Okay, warning now, you really shouldn't be on this thread if you haven't read Percy Jackson. That said, spoilers ahead.
The last book was probably my fav too!!! I loved it sooooo much!!!!!! And I didn't really like the fourth book either. Or I liked it less than the other awesome books.
Zoe's death made me cry. Like really cry. I usually maybe cry a little. A few drops or so. But now I just balled ma eyes out.
While I was reading the Titan's Curse, I read out loud the part with. . . um. . . I don't remember how to say her name. The love godess. Her and Percy. I made my two sisters (fourteen and twenty-two) that were listening to me almost fall over laughing. The sounds Percy makes, her awws and coments about love, I made them way more funnier then it should have been. I can make very good Uh duh sounds. And Percy does that alot and various other weird, stunned sounds. She not that pretty.
I also read the "dam" snack-bar part aloud. Now, that was funny. My sister said, "The dam snackbar?" like a minute before Grover did. And she hadn't remembered he was going to say it! We laughed until we cried. And fell of beds and bonked heads on nightstands (Ow. The nightstand in our hotel room really hurts. I would know, I bonked various parts of my body on thre about ten times.)
Here's a quote from the last book that I found hilarious.
"As for my brothers," Zeus said, "We are thankful-" he cleared his throat like the words were hard to get out- "erm, thankful for the aid of Hades."
The lord of the dead nodded. He had a smug look on his face, but I figured he'd earned the right. He patted his son Nico on the shoulders, and Nico looked happier than I'd ever seen him.
"And, of course," Zeus continued, though he looked like his pants were smoldering, "we must. . . um. . . thank Poseidon."
"I'm sorry, brother," Poiseidon said, "What was that?"
"We must thank Poseidon," Zeus growled. "Without whom. . . it would have been difficult-"
"Difficult?" Poseidon asked innocently.
"Impossible," Zeus said, "Impossible to defeat Typhon."
Ha, Zeus sin't very good with giving praise to the other gods, is he? XD
I also loved the ending. I am helpless around romance. I love it. Okay, now I need to go to librry and stock up on books!

Oh my gosh, those parts, especially the dam part, were HILARIOUS!!! I laughed SO hard till I cried too (though thankfully I was in the car, and couldn't fall out being I was strapped in. Maybe it's safer to read PJ strapped down.)
Aphrodite. I think her name is pronounced short a-fr long o-d long i-t-long e. If you can follow that. Basically, all the vowels are long except the a, and the rest sounds as you'd expect. I think that's how you say it. At least, that's how my dad says you say it.
I really cried for Zoe too. There are few books that really jar me when someone dies. This didn't jar me, since you were geared up for it, but it did make me cry!
I just thought of a series you might like if you haven't read it! The final book isn't out yet, it's coming out next April, but it's called Kingdom Keepers by Riddely Pearson. The first book is Disney After Dark. It's a really good series. Melody is the only other one to have read the series. We currently have an RP going about it in PP. Check it out if you want!

I like the ending too. I like when Percy stands on his dad's chair and Poseidon says,"WHO DARES STANDS ON MY--oh Percy it's you." Or it is something like that. I am so glad you made a Percy Jackson page.

@Blonde Heroines Rule: Oh my gosh, I totally agree about Annabeth!!!!!!!!! And about The Last Olympian!!!! It was definitely my favorite book in the series! I do Agree that The Kane Chronicles and HoO Aren't as good as PJ, but I still loved them, and am dying waiting or The House of Hades!
(September 20, 2013 - 10:54 pm)
@Blonde Heroines Rule
I totally agree, I should really have strapped myself down more with I read them. It would have saved me from most of the numerous head\knee\elbow bumps I got falling off armchairs\beds\chairs\ laughing. Same thing when I watch Avatar. I read the front of the last two books in the car, weirding my parents out by laughing my head off randomly (both times I was on my way back from the library after picking up the wanted books). One time I was sitting in our huge, black, spy (it looks like an FBI car) rental car at the store, waiting for my parents and I fell off the high seating onto the floor of the car and bonked my head. It hurt. I have a hard head.
@ Ivy
Talk to my sister! She is seriously dying waiting for The House of Hades! So are my other siblings too.

Book 2 is my favorite. I love the first in every series because you are just learning with the character their life story, so the first was a good one. Three was the first book where main characters actually died, and I thought that while it was sad, it was awesome. Book 4... ahem, Rick Riordan, but why did Rachel have to be a hippie? Just wondering. It's awesome. I love them all and wish these peeps were real.
(October 4, 2013 - 1:26 pm)
I started reading this series, but had to stop at book five because it was too dark. My favorite charector is Annabeth.
(November 27, 2013 - 1:20 pm)
My favorite characters are Percy and Annabeth.
(January 4, 2014 - 1:41 pm)
OMGOMG I could really go on about this series forever too! I totally agree with you, BHR, about everything. Books three and five are totally my favorite, since there are deaths, and in my opinion, this does make a story better. I loved Luke at the end; he was such a good villain/anti-hero and Rick Riordan's writing is really smooth and evolving. At least, how he changes the relationships and the tension throughout so that it feels really real. And Annabeth is really--really--awesome. In Heroes of Olympus, his new heroines are good, but not nearly as cool as Annabeth. She's one in a million.
(September 21, 2013 - 12:10 am)
Three and five were my favorites too!!!
(September 21, 2013 - 11:44 am)
OH MY GOSH I'M ABSOLUTELY DYING DYING DYING WAITING FOR THE HOUSE OF HADES!!!! It comes out October 8, so 17 more days till it's out! I will camp out in front of the bookstore. Any other people of the PJ fandom will be there too, and we'll sit, read the books, discuss the books, and be over all fangirls/guys together until we have the book in our hands. We will then proceed to scream our heads off, sit down, and read until we finish the book or armageddon. Whichever comes first.
@ Corina: Ha! I've done that countless times! I almost fell out of my seat while laughing out loud ON AN AIRPLANE! I got several strange looks.
@ Everinne: *applauds* Excellent description of Annabeth! She is one in a million. That's exactly how I feel about the other heroines. Clarrise is really cool, and so is Thalia. They both tye for second. So does Silena, dying a heroes death.
Question, am I the only one who felt Biana's death was a little ridiculous? I mean, it was necessary, but how she died was kinda pathetic. She climbs in a metal giant, makes it dance around, trips on some telephone wires, and BOOM! She's dead. I just felt it could have been written a bit better. But that's me.
(September 21, 2013 - 3:26 pm)
I know, I really can't wait for House of Hades either! And after I finish that, how am I suppose to wait ANOTHER year for the fifth book and grand finale?! *headdesk*
(September 21, 2013 - 5:15 pm)
I know! And after that, there will be NO MORE PERCY JACKSON BOOKS!!! *runs off and wails* But I've heard that Uncle Rick plans to write a series about Norse mythology! That'll be interesting. But anyway, a friend of mine who also like PJ knew how upset I would be when PJ ends. So they sent me a picture of puppies and it said, "In one year and one month, there will be no more Percy Jackson books. Here are some puppies to help with the pain."
No, it doesn't help, but anyway, it was a nice gesture. I'll still be bawling my eyes out. And after HoH comes out, I will sit and wait, and fangirl, and pester Uncle Rick until the final book comes out.
Btw, did anyone notice that the first word in The Lightning Thief is look, and the last word in The Last Olympian is back? Look back. And Percy's looking back in the HoH cover. Probably not connected, but still.
(September 22, 2013 - 11:44 am)
Thats weird. . .
I hate ending a series!!! It's so sad!! There's no more!! *starts crying and wailing and all my siblings give me weird looks*
GTG, need to play a game with my sibs.
