Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Book to Movie Adaptations
I guess this...

I guess this also could have gone on the PP, but this is mostly about books, soooo:

What are some of your favorite Book to Movie Adaptation?  Do you normally like the book or the movie better?  Which one do you prefer to experience first?  And other discussions in a related topic.

I really liked the animate Charlotte's Web.  But not the real life one.  That was terrible.  The Hunger Games was decent, but they took away waaaay too much.  I thought a good part of the casting for that movie was good, too, but Josh Hutcherson and what'shisface who was Gale were really bad.  Life of Pi was really good, but there were some things I wish they had put in.  I almost always like the book better in the end.  I like to read the book first, too.

I'll post my thing about casting later.

I've read the Lord of the Rings and LOVE IT. I've seen the Fellowship of the Ring and LOVED IT. I feel that if you can say a movie is as good as the book. I loved how it didn't really change from the book and felt the casting was gone PERFECTLY. Aragorn is SPOT ON; I couldn't imagine him more perfect. And Frodo has the perfect amount of totured sacrifice--maybe even more. And I liked how Gandalf seemed almost nicer than in the book. I can't wait to see The Two Towers and see if Eowyn is as fantastic as she is in the book. Although after seeing TFotR I don't think Peter Jackson can go wrong.

Percy Jackson (The Lightning Thief) doesn't even deserve mention; it totally ruined the book.

Ditto on the Eragon movie. *headdesk*

By the way, how is the movie adaption for The Golden Compass? I'm reading the book and really like it, but am almost worried to see the movie after seeing so many ruined book adaptions.

This is really ancient, but how does anyone like Gone With The Wind from 1939? And To Kill A Mockingbird with Gregory Peck? I love old movies and these are two of my favorites. So is Wuthering Heights with Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff. :)

I pretty much always like the book better, except for How To Train Your Dragon (although to be fair, I didn't finish the book. I just didn't like it.)

And yes, I also like to read the book first, and yes, I hate it SO MUCH when I imagine a character one way and they don't look that way the movie. Fortunately, I agree, Megan Follows is fabulous at protraying Anne. Once again I agree, the war-ish one wasn't my favorite.
