I have not read this  series but I think (because of what I heard) that it is against Christianity and well yeah. They kill God? Is that true? Well God made us and everything and is not evil if that's what you readers are thinking from these books.

Um, they kill the fake god and set the real one free.

It's true: Many people are offended by these, and I can respect that. But my own opinion of these is that they are wonderful. They make me lonely, though. I want a daemon. :(

I agree with some people that all books don't have to be Christian, but these books are an absolute insult and put-down to Christians! Most books don't have Christian references, or even Christian morals, but to openly write a published work and encourage people to enjoy the topic that degrades the belief in God or love of God is terrible! It is a discrimination book, insulting peole who have belief in a God. Believers didn't do anything to deserve such a book to be written against them.

Yes it may be against an angel (if I remember correctly), but it isn't agains God, he's the one that's been trapped in crystal! I think this book is more about breaking free of a strict religion and worshipping in your own way. If you're still stuck on the whole, "it is a discrimination book", don't read about it. It's his opinion and I don't think it feels to good to have people not like you because they talk and write about stuff that doesn't fit into someone else's beliefs. And like others have said, It's just a story.

Look,it's just a BOOK! Yeah, I am Christian, too, and I like the book! Do u have 2 believe in books! That iz dodoish! Look, just because it's against God, doesn't mean u have 2 believe in the religion. I also think it's mean and cruel to say that. What if someone of that faith logged on? Would u like someone to talk about your culture in that way?

I'm sure the last thing he wanted to do was insult you.  He was just trying to make you think outside your comfort zone.  He was bringing to light what for many years was a method of controlling people (yes. sadly many mean people use religion to control others.)  I think Pullman wanted to make sure yet another generation went on without questioning anything.  If a subject, including religion, is not questioned it can become corrupt.

*deep breath* Okay, here goes...  *is using a different name so that her Fundamentalist friends don't track her down and eat her alive*

First and foremost, I would like to point out that these books are a work of fiction. They are not real, they were not written specifically to insult Christians, and frankly, the story and writing style are teriffic. I am a Presbyterian Christian, and the books do not personally insult me at all. They were simply written from a different perspective. People hate them because they were written by an atheist; I do not think that is fair, because everybody has the right to believe whatever they want. It would be like if the books were written by an African-Amerian person, and all of the white people refused to read them because of that - it is discrimination. Just because Mr. Pullman chooses to write books that are not from the Christian perspective does not make the books evil. He is not trying to brainwash you. He just happened to write an excellent fantasy trilogy (heavy on the 'fantasy') that is not what people are used to. And I hear some people saying that in the book, God was killed; that is not absolutely correct. The evil angel who was pretending to be God was killed, yes, but the real god was trapped in a crystal litter and Lyra and Will freed him. So, please give these books a chance! They are very well written, and besides, the daemons are adorable. XD

*end rant* Okay, all done now. *grins*

Thanks for presenting a fair opinion. I really think that there is a great story in these books and that some people need to see past what seems like insults to a fantasy world. I appreciate somebody being a mediator. Besides, aren't demons awesome, cute, wonderful, etc.?

The books themselves were pretty good, but the author was pretty bad at endings. The ending of the first one was the extreme of cliffhangers and the the ending of the third one was just plain weird. At the beginning it was an adventure story, but the ending was basically a Romeo and Juliet, which I consider a poor ending to a suspenseful trilogy.
