Beauty in the Barrenness

The sun blinds my eyes
and frustration is heavy in my chest
How could a flower exist in such a place?
Endless yellow sand and never-ending blue sky

A blanket of heat settles on me as sweat rolls down my back
I recall her in the bed, suffering
Storm clouds fog her eyes
as tears river down her cheeks
Now, I quicken my pace

I desperately scan the sands, praying to find something, anything
There! Could it be?
The tiniest hint of green in the sea of yellow
I run towards it, face alight with hope
A beautiful flower, petals kissed with pink
I clasp it in my hands, joy flooding my heart
Happiness bursts in my chest like fireworks
A cooling breeze sweeping through me
 
Then, it hits me

Joy! That is the cure!
I jump up, determined
I bury the flower, covering the petals with sand
for another soul in need
I head back home,
as the flower waits patiently for its next visitor.
