Broken Mirrors

I was so excited as my friends, Sadie and Julia, were going with me to the annual Fun Fair, the only exciting event in town. My parents finally agreed, as long as we three stayed together. My parents are overprotective; I mean what’s the worst that could happen?
 
“MIAAAAA!” Sadie squealed, running toward me. I turned around and was tackled by a hurricane of red hair and freckles.

Julia ran after her and pulled her off me. “Let the poor child breathe,” Julia said.

“Sorry. I’m just really excited!” Sadie said, already dragging us to the entrance.

We bought our tickets and went inside. Immediately, the smell of buttery popcorn and sugary cotton candy hit me. We went on so many rides and won a big teddy bear. We were laughing and had the most fun ever.

We were wandering around when Sadie pointed to a ride we hadn’t gone on yet. “What’s that?” Julia asked.
It was a mirror maze called Broken Mirrors.

“Creepy . . . ,” I said, shivering. I didn’t know why, but the place felt off. Before I could say anything else, Sadie dragged me along, and Julia shrugged and followed.
 
Before we got in, a scrawny boy younger than me held my arm. “Don’t go inside! Whatever you do, don’t go inside!” he said, panicking, with terror in his eyes. I pulled my arm away, though what he said deeply bothered me.

“Come on Mia, ignore that kid,” Sadie said, walking inside. Julia followed her, and I sighed, stepping inside.

The mirrors were weird, our faces and bodies distorted. Sadie laughed at the funny silhouettes of us, and I cracked a smile, trying to shake off the uneasy feeling. Suddenly, when we were about halfway through the maze, everything went dark, and there were flashes of red light. I screamed, but my friends just laughed, thinking it was effects. I started running toward the exit, but the sound of mirrors cracking chased me, along with the screams of my friends. I was almost outside when the mirrors next to me cracked, and shadowy hands dragged me inside. . . .
