Mexico

One evening I sat down to eat dinner. “Mom,” I said, “can we take a trip to Mexico?”

“Well if we go to Mexico you will have to learn Spanish,” said my mom. I sighed.

At school, it was time for my first Spanish class. I liked Spanish class until the teacher said, “Soon we will take a quiz that is worth 50 percent of your grade.”

I froze. One quiz is half your grade! When I got home I quickly got out my notebook. For the rest of the day I studied.

After a couple weeks of hard work it was time for the Spanish test. I was really worried, but I calmed myself down.

After the teacher passed out the papers, she set a timer. “Ready, go.”

I picked up my pencil and tried to go quickly. Suddenly I heard the timer go ding. The teacher collected the papers.

The next day it was time for the results. Slowly she handed the paper back to me. I checked my score. I got 49 percent. For the rest of the day I slumped in my chair because I failed.

Later, I told my parents what happened.

“Oh no,” said my mom.

“Maybe you didn't study enough,” commented my dad.

“No it wasn't that, I studied a lot.”

“Well sweetie if you fail you have to try again.”

That night I slept a little better thinking that I could try again.

The next morning I signed up for Spanish class. When I got home I went right to studying. This time I studied in different ways. Soon it was time for the test. I picked up my pencil. One, two, three, go! I was going so fast. Ding, the timer went. I waited anxiously for my test back.

The next day when I got my test back I quickly checked my score. I got 100 percent. I got so excited. When I got home I told my parents what happened, and they were happy, too. After dinner my parents booked tickets to Mexico. That night I slept better than ever.
