New Poetry Contest: Hiding

Submitted by: Lark B., age 12, Branford, CT

I Hide

I hide
Every day
Everywhere
From everyone

I hide my thoughts when I know they wouldn’t be accepted
I hide my questions when I know there are answers
I hide my opinions when I know theirs are different
I hide my pain when I know it’s excruciating
I hide my voice when they expect me to be quiet
I hide my wishes when I know they’ll never come true
I hide myself always

Because the sad truth is
I know that if I didn’t hide
I wouldn’t be seen
