The Last Tree

“Breaking news live from Fox 9 News. Mayor Wheeler announced the cutting down of the last tree in New York City!”

“What!” exclaimed Noor, spitting out her orange juice. That tree has been there for over eighty years. It was planted in 2024. She couldn’t let it be cut down.

Noor ran out the door leaving her food on the table. Noor ran straight to the park and through the park gates. She saw a construction crew getting ready to cut the tree down. She went directly to the crew and demanded for them to stop, but they laughed at her. Noor felt her blood boil and her hands clenched into fists.

“Hey kid, get out of here. It’s dangerous,” one of the workers said. Noor didn’t want to leave, but it was obvious the workers weren’t going to listen.

She turned around and walked away. Noor needed encouragement and knew just where to get it.

“Ding.” Noor opened the door to the plant store and said hello to the store owner, Grace. Noor told Grace the problem she was having. Grace told her not to give up, because if the last tree in the city was cut down, the air would be polluted.

Grace's words inspired Noor to save the tree. Noor ran back to the park and saw Mayor Wheeler. She knew what she had to do. Noor ran up to the tree and stood in front of it.

Mayor Wheeler saw Noor and walked up to her. Noor looked down and told the Mayor how important
the tree was for this city. But, he wouldn’t listen. Noor told him to look up at the sky. Inside of the park, there were blue skies and puffy, white clouds. Outside of the park, the sky was gray and gloomy, the white clouds turned gray.

Looking around, Mayor Wheeler realized that this tree was important. He turned around and told the camera crew that they would not cut down the tree. Not only that, but he asked all citizens to plant flowers and trees.

Noor saved New York City!
