Emilia’s Basement

“Hey Emma!” I called out to my BFF, Emilia. My mom dropped me off at Emilia’s house. Since she lived in New York, and I lived in Ohio, we didn’t get to see each other that often.

“Isabel ! Welcome! Come inside and we can draw!”

I followed Emilia inside her house, and we sat at her desk and drew. I drew a sunflower, and Emilia drew an elephant, but when I reached into her paper pile, we realized we were out of paper.

“Come on, ”Emilia said. “Let's go to the basement and get paper from the printer.”

We went to the basement and got the paper, but something made me drop it. “Emilia, what's inside that door?”

“Yeah, I’ve been trying to figure that out, too. I’m just scared to go in there by myself,” said Emilia.

“Well, let's go in there together then,” I said.

We walked in through the musty doorway. There, we saw a huge inventing studio. An inventing studio is a place with lots of inventing materials, such as hammers, nails, flour, sugar, eggs, and milk.

“I got an idea . . . let's make a cupcake machine!” Emilia suggested.

“Totally!” I agreed.

We were using gears, string, metal, hammers, screws and bolts. We were hammering down nails and tying strings. We were pouring flour into tiny compartments, until soon, we were standing in front of a cupcake machine.

“Wow, Emilia, we did awesome,” I said.

Emilia nodded. “Now we just have to get it upstairs,” Emilia said.

We pushed our contraption, but it wouldn't budge.

“I got it!” Emilia exclaimed. “Isabel, get the roller skates from that shelf and the white string, too.

I went and grabbed them and gave them to Emilia.

She took them and said, “Lift the machine up so I can tie the skates on.”

I did, and now, we could roll the machine upstairs! Once we got upstairs, we showed Emilia’s mom and dad the machine. Then, we all made and ate delicious vanilla and chocolate cupcakes.
