New Poetry Contest: Bugs!
Submitted by: Audrey L., age 13, Oakland, CA
The Land of the Small
In the Margins of the world
is the Land of the Small
Where bees buzz in their hive
and ladybugs crawl
The corners, the caves,
the crannies and nooks
All hide unseen stories
not written in books
They pop out of nowhere
Hello! Surprise!
Out comes a butterfly,
darts past your eyes
Though not all are so great
A mosquito stays hidden
Then sneakily attacks
“Wait, how’d I get bitten?!”
But it’s crucial, you know
(though this is great fun)
These stories don’t end
when the poem is done
Ant, fly, cricket
All that aren’t tall
Have stories yet written
in the Land of the Small
