The Mansion

Zane cautiously tugged on the black towering gate, which led to the massive mansion. The skulls engraved into the gate stared at the two friends. Zane, a fifteen-year-old fire-bender, walked with fourteen-year-old Mia.

“Let’s go in, O.K.?” exclaimed the curious girl. Mia trembled as she followed Zane. As Zane opened up the door, a gust of cold air burst onto their faces. The floor creaked as Zane cautiously started walking down the hall with Mia.

“Do you hear that?” asked Mia, trembling.

“What?” asked Zane.

“I heard evil laughter coming from above me, but I don’t hear it now,” whispered Mia.

“Let’s go on. It was probably your imagination,” said Zane.

The two friends continued down the hallway. Cobwebs hung from the ceiling and pictures of men who looked fearsome and cruel stared at them. As Zane glanced down the hall, he saw something shining. He left Mia and ran down the hall toward the glowing light. When he leaned over the glowing light, he found a piece of gold.

“Help!” he heard a faint cry from behind him. He had forgotten all about Mia as if someone had cast a spell over him. He picked up the gold coin and noticed a path of gold coins. He followed the coins and picked them up. Eventually he came to a door made fully out of silver. Zane opened the door and stepped inside. The door closed immediately and pitch-black darkness covered the room.

“Aaaahh!” Zane felt sharp claws dig into his flesh. He felt the blood trickle slowly down his legs. The lights suddenly turned on, and right in front of him was a witch with a nose like a vulture’s beak and bloody claws. Now she had a sword next to Mia’s neck.

“Let her go!” yelled Zane.

“You have to give me your fire-bender powers first, which can only be given of your own free will,” answered the hag.

“O.K., take my powers and give me Mia,” said Zane without hesitation.

“Hahahaha!” roared the witch and threw flames at him. Zane dodged, took out a coin, and reflected the flames. She burned up.

“Oh, thank you, Zane, for saving me,” whispered Mia. As the witch burned, the wood of the mansion caught fire.

“Let’s get out of here!” shouted Zane.
