Story Contest: Acts of Courage

This month’s Cricket is filled with characters performing acts of courage, both great and small. Dyne Shaizar follows a monstrous beast into Goran’s Folly, Pippa takes a harrowing ride on the Dragonfly, and Kayo in “Sweet Beginnings” bravely confronts . . . a skunk! The hero Haddon tells Dyne that courage is not lack of fear, but “a willingness to act, to do the right thing no matter what the cost.”  So for this month’s contest, everybuggy wants to read your best story about a courageous character with a willingness to act.

Will you imagine the adventures of a brave fantasy hero, like Fable Thatcher, who confronts pirates and wizards? Or will you write about a more realistic situation, such as a character showing courage at school or playing sports? Maybe you will be inspired by a courageous moment in history, such as when Fania’s friends risked their lives to give her a birthday present in Auschwitz. Maybe you’ll write a funny story about a person with the courage to try out a new invention, like “The Man Who Invented Roller Skates.”

Whatever you choose, the heroic bugs of Cricket Country will be rallying bravely around the mailbox, waiting to be regaled by your best story of 350 words or less about a courageous character. Hip-hip-hooray!
