Chatterbox: In This Month's Issue

For Pete's sake...nob

For Pete's sake...nobody ever posts here!!!!

So I'm posting.

In the March issue there were several stories about the Jewish holiday Purim.

Now, I've got nothing against Jews.  NOTHING.  No offence whatsoever.  I understand that with the modern multicultural mindset including every religion is estremely important (in my opinion, the modern mindset is a mistake, but hey, that's just an opinion.)   If you're to put stories about Judaism isn Cricket, why not Christianity too? I've noticed that the stories about Christian holidays like Easter and Christmas have virtually disappeared, while the stories about Hanukkah and Purim abound.  This is just an observation, absolutely no offense to anybody.

Thanks for listening to my concerns!

Our readers comments are important to us, Maddie, and yours are being passed on to our editors. We strive to present a variety of material in each magazine. To get the whole balance of cultures and religions, you need to look at the whole year. We are always on the lookout for good stories about any religion or culture, but it's not always possible to come up with a perfect balance. There is really only one Purim story in March plus one recipe. There was a Christmas story, "Many Happy Returns," in the Nov/Dec issue, and we have an Easter recipe coming up in April. We will keep your impression in mind as we select material for future issues. We appreciate your taking the time to tell us.

@Mattie: I know!  It's horrible.  Disgusting.  Hideous.  So many words I could use right now.  No, ZNZ, I didn't know that, but the question is, how do you know so much about the US?  Not that there's anything wrong with that, I know you're super duper smart :)  I just find it interesting that you know so much about the US since you don't live here. O.o

Well, I have to take US history at school. Plus I read books, and my dad tells me stuff.

I find that really cool that you're learning about the country I live in... I'm almost flattered. :) Jk, jk. :P  I hope my last post didn't come across as mean... I'm a little worked up right now because of Vida's thread in BaB.  I mean, I seriously didn't mean to offend anyone and I think I sounded nice and reasonable (obviously the Admins did, too, otherwise my comments wouldn't have been posted) but Vida always gets so angry, and I don't know what I did!  She IS younger, but I wasn't just talking about her.  Oh.  Sorry, now I'm ranting in frustration.  I just hate when people are mad at me, especially when I wasn't trying to hurt anyone!  I'll just... stop.

This is almost freaky.  Spamboy says: agny.  He knows I'm in agony!

@ RD-- I don't believe you insulted anyone. If so I don't think you meant to. You were just stating your opinion and people should accept that!!

Do remember, everyone, that Christians are not the only ones who believe in God.

Regardless of one's religious beliefs, what about the separation of church and state? That's a good topic for discussion.

Oh, that. Yeah, many weren't Christian. But most were! And even if they weren't, you can't denythat  the Constitution has a whole lotta of Christian morals in it!

@Elizabeth M: Thanks.  Sorry, I just got way too out of control and tend to freak out easily because I'm one of those people who just CANNOT have someone mad at me.  My sister could hold a grudge for weeks, but I'd be the first to apologize within an hour, even if it wasn't my fault, (which you will see I did on Vida's thread) just because I don't like people to be disappointed in me.  But, I'll take some deep braeths, chill out, and I'll be fine. And now that I'm looking at this, it's not a big deal at all.  Why do I always make big deals out of everything?  Admins... just... thank you.  I'm so glad you're here, and I don't feel I say that often enough!

@Mattie: It totally does!  And even though the Founding Fathers may not have been Christian, they still had wayyyyyy better morals then we do now!

Aw, you're welcome RD! -Admin

I've heard that President Obama wants to take the part that refers to God out of the American national anthem. (I don't know what part that is though, since I'm a Canuck! :P)

Yeah, and they were thinking about doing that to the Pledge of Aliegence (spelling?).

A Christian or any other person may support the separation of church and state, the reason some are in favor of removing "under God" from the Pledge.

If you ask me, the idea of removing "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance is awful.  This is a Christian country, people!  Though it sure looks like it won't be that way for long..:(

Yeah, I don't think it makes sense.  I think the fact that people are making it a big deal is annoying.  I mean, even if you don't believe in God, is it going to hurt you to say His name before a baseball game (when they sing the anthem) or whenever? It's not like you have to listen to it constantly. Admin, did you delete my comment about Pres. Obama? Hm... I just said I don't like him at all (and maybe a couple other things :))  Oh and didn't they have to take down the Nativity outside the White House during Christmas season because athiests complained?

I may have deleted anything that sounded disrespectful. We don't want Chatterbox to get too political. And we want to respect all religions or lack of religion. I'm not sure about a Nativity scene at the White House. Think about separation of church and state.

@R~D~: I think I can see where both sides are coming from.  I think that it is important to say right off the bat that I completely agree with the Admin.  Separation of church and state is really important.  America is a free country and all religions are welcome and invited.  (Well... should be according to the original American ideals, but I won't get into that.)  Including those without a religion.  So I can see how people could object to having "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Technically, the government is not affiliated with a religion (of course the president is, but he isn't, say, the head of the church and the head of the country like it used to be in Europe).  Therefore, the country itself isn't either. (Am I right, Admin?  I hope I'm not saying incorrect statements...)  So having "under God" could upset a lot of people who don't worship God.  However, I'm not saying getting rid of that part is good or bad.  I'm just giving reasoning for another point of view.  Does this make sense?

Yes, what you say makes sense, Leaf. You state valid reasons why some people (even some who believe in God) are opposed to having "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. I think Freedom of Religion includes the right to not believe in God, and I respect religious beliefs that differ from my own.

1. I think there are more Jewish stories in Cricket than Christian ones simply BECAUSE there are lots of Christians. If Cricket only published stories that would be familiar to the majority of its readers it wouldn't be as multicultural a magazine.

2. I agree that Christianity has played a big role in American history, but the USA isn't the same country it was when the founding fathers were alive. That's not a bad thing though.

3. I am an atheist.

4. Spam boy says ufpm. UPFM = you pee on an FM radio??
