High school

So I start high school soon and I was wondering if there were any high schoolers on here who could tell me what to expect from it? I'm really nervous haha

For me it was a lot better than Junior High. You tend to have more freedom, and we had fewer classes per day due to blocks rather than periods. We also had open campus and adjusted day schedules (so if you have a study hall first/last blocks you can come in late/leave early). The content is also more advanced for the most part, and there are more electives, so that's fun.

Well, I've been completely homeschooled since I started third grade, but I'm a high schooler nevetheless, so I do have some advice! What you learn in high school can actually be really interesting - try to figure out what areas you're most interested in, as well as which ones have the best teachers and so on, and enjoy learning! If it's done right, high school is a great time to expand your horizons and grow as a person, learning and adopting different perspectives,  and, in a way, learning how to think. Theory of Knowledge, for instance, for instance, is fascinating, and it really teaches you not just what the world is like, but also a whole new way of thinking which is essential for navigating life. If your teachers aren't really inspiring or interesting, just try taking your own initiative and learning on your own! However you do it, I would definitely advise taking full advantage of all the ~educational opportunities~ you can have, because learning is so important. Not just learning about different subjects like history and math (though that's really inteeresting and important too), but figuring out skills like critical thinking, creativity, and all the rest of it.

As for the social aspect, well, I would say maybe try to find people who are interested in the same things you are, like maybe through a theater club or something. Being friends with a new student or someone who doesn't have any friends yet, might also be a good strategy. Ultimately, though, if you can't find any friends, try not to worry too much about it. If you're being a good person, then even if no one can appreciate your good qualities, that's their problem, not yours, and there's still so much to enjoy even if no one appreciates you. I've had to develop that point of view over the last few years, and it's very empowering to be able to disregard what people think of you.

Lastly, high school takes up a lot more time, from everything I've heard - maybe you might want to try to leave a little bit of time, if you can, to keep doing the things that matter to you, even if it's just a few minutes.

I think that's all the advice I've got! I hope it helps, and I hope high school goes really well for you!
