Here's our chat thread! I'm terrible at starting conversation :') but uh have you read any good books or watched any good shows lately?

Yes! I've read four books this year and they were all good. I'm not really sure I'd be allowed to discuss them much here on the CB, as all of them dealt with mature topics, but I can tell you I'm planning to read Cinder soon.
I've mostly been watching Star Wars: Rebels right now. Since it's Star Wars, it's sci-fi, and I really like sci-fi. I love Rebels and I'm almost done with it.
How about you? Reading or watching anything good these days?

Hi! I'm also really excited to talk to you :D I'm sorry it took me a while to respond--I was in the car all day driving up to my grandma's house. Are you doing anything for Thanksgiving?
Ooh, Cinder!! I read Cinder a while ago, and I really enjoyed it! I want to read the rest of the Lunar Chronicles, but I haven't gotten around to it yet :P I always enjoy fractured fairy tales, though :D once you read it, I'd love to hear your thoughts :D
Star Wars: Rebels also sounds cool! I've never been that into Star Wars, but it sounds interesting!
I haven't had a ton of time to read as much as I'd like to lately, but I did finish The Raven Cycle over the summer. I really enjoyed it--if you haven't already read it, I'd definitely recommend checking it out :D I've also been reading some nonfiction lately. I recently finished a book on the Brehon Laws of ancient Ireland, which I found really interesting (it's called Brehon Laws: The Ancient Wisdom of Ireland by Jo Kerrigan).
I've also been rewatching the show Over the Garden Wall--it's kind of like Gravity Falls, sort of? I love the animation style. It's perfect for autumn :)
What've you been up to lately? how's your writing project coming along (you're doing NaNo this year, right?)? Have you been busy with any other hobbies?

It's cool! Yep, I'm going to my grandma's too, actually, but she doesn't live far from me at all. I get to see my cousins, too!

Ooh, a school musical and a concert! that's so cool!! if you don't mind me asking, what musical is it? and what instrument(s) do you play?
Yeah, I can definitely relate to what you said about your NaNo novel--it's not my best writing, but at least I'm writing! I really want to go back and edit but I'm not allowing myself to reread anything I've written until December :P
Aside from NaNo, I've been mostly busy with school :/ I'm part of the literary and art magazine and the student publishing house, and even though we haven't done much yet, it's been pretty fun!

This year we're doing Shrek Jr.! Wasn't what I was expecting and it's not my favorite musical but I like musical theatre in general so I'm still on board. I was just in a concert for a local choir, and I have my upcoming school concert - I play keyboard!
Yeah. I try to avoid editing as I go, too. I like listening to music while I write (usually simple classical music and maybe some ambience)!

Hm, I can never listen to music while I write, for some reason. :P
For both the literary and art magazine and the student publishing house, we edit student submissions and then self publish them, into small magazines and actual books! it's pretty cool, but we haven't gotten a ton of submissions yet, so right now we're mostly working on advertising the clubs so that we can actually have submissions to work with :)

I've been listening to mostly indie music, with a bit of folk, rock, and pop thrown in. My favorite artists right now are probably Taylor Swift, Lor, and LÉON. who are your favorite artists?

My favorite musical is probably Wicked or Aladdin! I've seen both on Broadway and they're amazing.
I've been playing for about a year! I like it a lot but I'm definitely still a beginner. Thank you!
Yeah, it's different for everyone. For me, it's helpful to have some kind of simple instrumental music in the background.
That's so cool! As the people who make the magazines and books, are you allowed to submit stuff? I feel like you'd said you submitted something… Well, anyway, I think it's awesome that you're doing that. Are you liking high school in general? I hear it's better than middle school. What's it like? (I'm an eighth grader)
It's hard to choose a favorite Taylor Swift album! folklore and evermore are so good, and I love Midnights and Lover. A few favorite songs are: "The Man," "last great american dynasty," "Bejeweled," "Lavender Haze," and "Cornelia Street." You?
My favorite artists at the moment are probably Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo (you might want to try her music if you haven't already), girl in red, Cavetown, and Phoneboy.

Yeah, we're allowed to submit pieces--we're pretty much the only people who've been submitting so far (we really need to improve our promotional game :/). and yes, i have submitted some pieces--a poem and a couple photos. :)
Yeah, i've been enjoying high school so far, thanks for asking! :) It's more academically rigorous than my middle school, which is a nice change, and (most of) my teachers are really nice and supportive. I'd definitely say that it's better than middle school. generally, middle schoolers are...not the most pleasant people to be surrounded by :/ it’s a lot bigger than my middle school, too, so there are a lot more clubs and events and things like that :)
I love folklore and evemore! Those are the albums that originally got me into Taylor Swift’s music. i also like reputation and Midnights, but it’s impossible to choose a favorite! I really like all the songs you mentioned as well! some more of my favorites are “ivy,” “Maroon,” “Don’t Blame Me,” and “this is me trying,” but again, they’re all so good!
Oh, I love girl in red’s music as well! I haven’t listened to that much of Cavetown or Olivia Rodrigo, and I hadn’t heard of Phoneboy, but I’ll check them out! Do you have any favorite songs by any of those artists?

Thank you for thinking that it's cool! My friend irl was so annoyed when I could not stop singing Aladdin for a few days after seeing it :/ Yes, Wicked it so good! I really hope you get to see it someday :D My favorite songs from Wicked are probably "Defying Gravity" and "Popular." From Aladdin I really like "High Adventure," "A Whole New World," and "One Jump Ahead." And "Friend Like Me," ofc :b
Thanks! It's a lot of fun. I'm thinking I'm going to take up percussion in high school (technically piano is percussion, but most people think of the drums when they hear that word. I want to play mallets, which my skills in keyboard will help me with, and learn how to play on a drum set)!
That's cool! If you're struggling with getting submissions, maybe make posters and/or announcements over the loudspeakers? Or have contests? Do people have to use their name to submit, or can it be done anonymously? (Sorry I keep bugging you with questions about it I just think it's so cool lol) And it's so awesome that you've submitted stuff!

Cool! I haven't listened to all of Reputation but what I have listened to is so good. I like "Getaway Car" a lot :]
Yesss girl in red! What's your favorite song of hers? My very favorite Cavetown song is "Meteor Shower," but I also like "Devil Town," "This Is Home," "Taking Care of Things," and a few more of them whose names I cannot currently remember. I like Olivia Rodrigo's songs "all-american" (this one swears a lot though) and "the grudge" - her newest album is my favorite of the two albums she's made, but I like both! As for Phoneboy, I like "What a Coward," "Moving Out," "Runaway," "Your Apartment," "Ferrari," and "Roses," though you really can't go wrong with any of their songs.
Also, oh my stars have you heard boygenius's newest release?? You. Need. To. Listen. To. It. Please. "The Parting Glass." It's so, so beautiful. It's a cover - many artists have done it and I don't think it really belongs to anyone (don't quote me on that, though, I'm not sure). It's enchanting.

aw, i'm sorry, you deserve people who will enthusiastically belt showtunes with you <3 and yess i love "Defying Gravity"! that one's probably my favorite. but "Popular" is really good too!! i haven't really listened to Aladdin (i haven't even watched the Disney movie in like five years :/) but i'll check it out :D
ooh percussion! that's so cool! (you know, i've never really thought about piano as a percussion instrument, but now that you say it, yeah, that makes sense) i've always wanted to play the drums or something, but i've never had a chance to take lessons :P well, my grandma got my dad a steel tongue drum a few Christmases ago, and i've messed around with it. it has a pretty cool, almost hypnotic sort of sound.
oh! and speaking of which, do you celebrate Christmas/any other winter holidays?
those are some good ideas! we have some posters around the school with qr codes to the club's submission page, and i think we'll do some contests later in the year (?), but i'll see if we say something during the morning announcements :D yeah, submitting stuff anonymously is allowed! (and don't worry about it, you're not bugging me :) ) and thanks! if the high school you end up going to has a literary and art magazine or something similar, maybe you should join! it's been really fun so far, and i think you'd like it :)
i totally get that--i pretty much spent eigth grade just waiting to get out of there :/ good luck with all the middle schoolers you're surrounded with and i really hope you enjoy high school :)

YES i have heard their new release oh my goodness i've basically had it on repeat all weekened, how did you KNOW?? it's absolutely gorgeous! yeah, i'm pretty sure it's a traditional Scottish/Irish song? and oh my goodness it's so so lovely :0

Thanks <3 Yeah, you should listen to Aladdin when you have the time! It might sound childish, but tbh I love the movie and the show was amazing. If you ever see it, I think you'll appreciate it - the costumes are absolutely gorgeous, and it's so funny.

Yess I love all of those songs! And yeah "The Parting Glass" is SO good! And whoa, it's so cool that you have a the record vinyl! :D I also love "Not Strong Enough"! Some of my other favorites are "True Blue" and "Letter To An Old Poet" but they're all so good <3
Um. On Random Thoughts/Things, you said you were into high fantasy stuff? That's so cool :D Do you mostly read or write (or both?) high fantasy stuff?
