The Burn Group!

The Burn Group! :D

Hi Flamie, so excited to get to know you better! It's cool that both our names are kinda fire-related (I think I already told you but I LOVE your name so much, "flamarestii" (?) and "flamie", that is)! You knew this question was gonna come up, but how's working in a library?!? That's so cool!! :DD I also LOVEEE Narnia, The Green Ember (I've only read the main 4 though), and L.M. Montgomery (read the whole Anne of Green Gables series 2 times, (hopefully) starting Emily of New Moon soon!)!! I don't know the others, but I assume you recommend? What are some of your other favorite authors/books? Also, are you writing a book right now? If you want to share, what's it about (and worldbuilding and conlangs? I've been wanting to do a conlang but I have no idea where to start!)?

Again, super excited! :)

Hi Celine! It's really definitely super cool that our names both have to do with fire!! Have you ever sat by a campfire and stared into it for a loooong time? It's hypnotizing!

*laughs* I did wonder if that question would come up! I love my job so much. It almost doesn't feel like working at all (I said that to my parents and they said that's not a good thing to expect from every job, but still!) I get to check books (and movies and magazines) in and out, help patrons, process new books!, and shelve books. My reading list has literally gotten pages longer :0

This weekend I actually went to a play put on by a local university of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. It was such a good play, and I almost cried when Aslan died. Who is your favourite character in The Green Ember? Those books are so funny and I love them! You should also definitely read Emily of New Moon if you get the time! I think Emily's character must be my personality type because I relate so much to her in the books. I'll make a list of some recommendations for you later, but I've been busy this week!

Ooooh yes I absolutely love talking about worldbuilding/conlangs!! I started making a conlang for my fantasy world last year I think, just going with how I wanted the words to sound and especially feel. I know that some hard-core conlangers start with making language rules and grammar structure, but that honestly seemed like too much work, and I'm no language expert :D So I just started with making up words, and the structure of my conlang has kind of flowed from that. Do you do world-building as well? I'd love to hear about your world(s)!

Oh oops looks like I wrote a lot! I'm so excited to get to know you & chat! Bye for now!

Yess I have!! I love the smell of fires too! I love going camping and hiking, I'm in both Girl Scouts and cub scouts (well, close enough for cub scouts. My parents are Den leaders, my brother's a Cub Scout, and I've been doing it since he was a lion (which is kinder, I started GS at kinder too (except there it's called Daisy))! So basically I get to do all the fun activities with none of the commitment! :)

But both GS and cub scouts are SO FUN and I feel like I have families there (yes, my brother's two years younger than me which means the cub scouts I know are 2 years younger than me, but I still love them. I tend to make friends with younger kids. Prob cause I mostly feel like a younger kid myself, and ppl don't usually give younger kids credit for this but they're actually rly serious and mature and probably more capable of holding a fully serious conversation than an adult is. And the really young ones aren't afraid of being brutally, searingly honest, sometimes without even being mean just speaking the truth, which is nice (I was friends with a 1st grader who was the best, for ex, and when we ran out of things to talk about and I became awkward cause painfully shy here, she would just point it out in the truest way possible and we would laugh the silence out).

do you hike or camp or do scouts? Or have any siblings? If hiking, what's your favorite trail? My favorite hiking trail has GOT to be the Mist Trail in Yosemite (still can't believe we went there, and for my birthday no less!!)! We hiked all the way to the top and the view and experience was SPECTACULAR! It was just slightly scary when the steps got really steep and slippery and there was no railing at all to prevent you from falling off the side of the mountain (eek). And switchbacks. Urgh.

That sounds so amazing!! Like, what?? that's a JOB?!? Y'know what, that's it, I'm gonna ask my school library if I can volunteer there doing stuff cause I already spend so much time there anyways and I'm fine with doing whatever they need me to do and all the librarians know me rly well already. I mean, not me going to the library first day of new school while everyone's out on the field being "social" cause it's a "social event" and getting the whole gigantic second floor to myself and spending the whole day reading... XD

But seriously. My mom's been volunteering at my school libraries since forever, I know how to do it. And if they accept adults, why not kids (ok, ok, lots of reasons, but..)

but so glad you love your job!! That's great! And, as already established, but it really is, that's so so so so SOO awesome!! Thanks for sharing!! :DD

Ooh, that play sounds amazing! Aslan... I'm making my way though Narnia again and recently (if you can call a few months ago recently) finished TLTWaTW! And yup that part :(

Green Ember.. ooh, it's been a while since I read it, so sorry I'm forgetting tons. Who does Pickett marry again? Starts with a "W", missed Pickett's head with an arrow (I think..), Winnie maybe??? I remember liking her a lot. And Heather and Pickett are awesome too. There was that chef.. Galt? "Too much salt is an as-salt, too little salt is an in-salt" or something? And the rabbit in all black that broods and dodges the birds he created and uses everything as a weapon and trains Pickett? Lord.. Helheim?? Heimer?? Definitely him, I got so scared when I thought he'd died! And that rabbit who sits and paints the mist at the balcony and sees stuff?? I liked a whole lot of characters. There were more, the mother perhaps? Someone singing?? There's a hawk or something antagonist and does that rabbit die? I forgot, sorry. But yep, definitely love Green Ember! You (fave characters)?

Ooh, I love how you do your conlang!! I would love to hear more about it if you want to share! I only have 1 world that I've been building the past few years (but that oddly STILL doesn't even have a name yet??) and I love when all the seemingly random parts I add over time suddenly fit together to make so much sense and sometimes I even learn stuff about this world I've never noticed before! Do you like to build any other worlds besides fantasy? I like doing mixes of fantasy and scifi! And what are some of your favorite fantasy worlds?

and, oops, looks like I wrote my trademark of... WAY TOO MUCH. And I had gotten off to such a short start too! But, yes, looking forward to getting to know you and chatting!! Bye! :)

if you ever want, feel free to ask for a summary of the post if it's too overwhelming. I'd be happy to do one for you if I have time! :)

:D A fellow long poster! I had so much fun reading it, I promise!

Every summer my family goes hiking in some Canadian mountains. The mountains are like old friends, and as we drive along the road I can recognize most of them by name. We haven't gone on many long hikes because I have four younger siblings! They get tired really easily and then they're like when can we stop?? And I'm like c'mon guys, at least make it to the waterfall! I agree that switchbacks are scary though!

You should totally see about volunteering at a library! Even if you're not getting paid, I bet it'll be worth it! Our library has lots of kid/teen volunteers, as long as you're willing to learn and not get *too* distracted by books :D

Yesssss The Green Ember! Picket marries Louisa (nickname Weezie) which I was honestly surprised by! I thought if anyone, he would marry Emma :0 But oh well, Weezie was nice too. Galt the Chef is hilarious too! Obviously Picket and Heather are main characters & the best, but I also liked Jo and Cole and Heyna. Helmer had a really intriuging character as well! I love it when there are complicated characters in books, even though they're just. so. frustratingly infuriatingly CoMpLeX!

I actually just made a thread on the Inkwell about worldbuilding, so I'll save my explanation for then! I've never tried making a scifi world, though- that sounds so interesting! How do you balance magic and technology? Or are they integrated together somehow? I'd love to hear more!

Okay, that's me for now! Bye!

Ooh, that sounds awesome!! And, yeah, the younger siblings.. my younger brother gets REALLY irritated when it's hot at all! He's always complaining about the sun and asking for AC, and then when we go to Canada and it's snowing he refuses to change out of short sleeves and shirts and just stands there in the snow totally dressed for the summertime and completely finally content... XD (btw, yes, my parents DID eventually make him put on some more clothes)

and sorry this took so long, I wanted to see about the library before I responded... and they actually said maybe! I mean, since it's a school library, and they don't have any student volunteers at all, and I doubt anyone has asked before (the librarians seemed pretty thoroughly surprised), I was expecting maybe like a polite no, but they said if they ever need help with anything they'll ask me, which still might be a form of a polite no, but I'll take it! I WILL try to find out if I can help volunteer at the local public library too though, which is currently under remodeling. It's my favorite public library ever... everyone is so nice and it's cozy and I've been going there since forever and just entering feels like returning home... plus, I've spent literal hours there just reading by myself, and it's really safe. :) But now, as I said, they're remodeling and it's kinda scary bc ackk what if they make it all big and not familiar anymore?! But then again now they're gonna have a whole room just for teens (I'm a bit doubtful though...) and... A READING BALCONY!! :D so yeah if you can't tell I'm pretty excited. Is your library a school or public library?

Yeah, I thought for certain it'd be Emma (who I totally forgot about ackk she's so so so awesome too!!), but nope! I feel like I should but I cannot remember who Jo, Cole, and Heyna are... I do love complicated characters too! But they also give me complicated feelings...

I'll post the worldbuilding part on the thread too, which is awesome btw, thanks for making it, but for now, some questions...

where would you go if you could go anywhere in the world right now?

favorite song? Music genre? Artist?

do you like the Discworld (for some reason I feel like you do but who knows)?
