Online there is a very obvious indication that there is a cave near rouges harbor inn near ithaca . Another article states that there is rumored to be a tunnel from the actual basement of the inn. 

nothing quite matches up! 

any ideas?

I have an idea! Both of the articles seem kind of similar, so I am thinking what if it starts somewhere around the inn but goes under or through the basement! I think after that I might be out of ideas, but if sounds like a cool story!
