Hunger Games!

I forgot to mention that a few weeks ago I got two of my friends and me tickets for the Hunger Games movie. I'm going on the 24th, the day after the premiere. Mondo excited!

I judge the movie as: pretty good to really good.  It wasn't fabulously awesome, but it was great for what they could do. My notes:

1. Did it seem like they were in the arena for 2 days instead of weeks?  Didn't like that.

2. Almost wish they would have just rated it R and done it right!  The camerawork was HORRIBLE. AWFULLLLLLLL.  Even the awesome Clove/Katniss fighting scene (where there is no gore) was all shakey and I couldn't tell what was going on.  Especially during Cato and Peeta's fight, because they're both blonde!

3. The relationship between Katniss and Peeta didn't come across so swell.  Where they stand, are they really in love, is the love fake, what's going on??? None of that is known.

4. All the actors were EXCEPTIONAL!  But most of them had such small roles!  Even Peeta wasn't in it for a very large amount of time.  Although it was enough for me to fall in love with his character! :)

5.Little pet-peeve: why didn't the stinkin cannon go off when Rue died?  So inconsistent!  I know, that wasn't the main focus of that scene, but Marvel and Rue's cannon didn't go off.

6. Cato's speech made me cry!!!  Just proves that even though the Careers volunteer, they still have a heart and feelings and a conscience!

Sorry that was so long!  I could write a whole book on my review of the movie...

It went mute for a minute after Rue died. Maybe the cannons went off then.

Everyone I know hated the cameras.

And, honestly, I didn't hear a word of Cato's speech. I'm still not sure why.

I think they did the cameras like that on purpose, so it would look like they were running. I didn't like it either, though.

I think the cameras were shakey to minimize the gore.  During the fighting scenes was when the camera work was the worst... probably so you couldn't really see any real violence.

@Emily: Oh, that makes sense.  I guess I didn't quite pay attention to that. :)

@Olive: were you entranced by his face? :D:D

It bothered me that the Careers were only considered to be from Districts 1 and 2. Cato killed the boy from 4. In the books, the boy from 4 died in the bloodbath but the girl was with the Careers. Katniss killed her by dropping the tracker jacker nest on her. Haymitch mentioned something about and academey that is never mentioned in the books.

It just bothered me, a little bit.

The special effects and sounds were amazing, except I agree with you, RD, the cameras were pretty shaky!  I thought that the actor for Katniss was perfect : )

I thought I was the only one who couldn't catch Cato's speech, Olive...was't that a little strange?

But what happened to Gale, Gale, Gale??  Sorry.  He's my favorite character.  In the movie, he hardly has any lines, and it just doesn't seem like him.

I thought that the point about revolutions and change may not have quite been gotten through to the younger fans, but I guess that's ok....
