Dear cricketeers,
Chatterbox: Pudding's Place
Dear cricketeers,
Dear cricketeers,
We need to talk about something deadly serious. Across the country, schools offer drama programs. These clubs put on plays for the student body and anyone else who wants to see the plays. Drama Clubs put on comedies, dramas, action, and just amazing plays. However, in this time of recession, States are making budget cuts, which make school districts make budget cuts, which cause schools to cut budgets. What are schools cutting, you ask? Drama. Music. Art. All of the clubs and subjects that you and I love are being cut. These subjects are the only things that allow the student body to show creativity! But what can we do to stop them?
Kids need to stand up! Think of ways that you can, with assistance, but on low budget plays at your school! Devise a plan for your schools music program to be no budget! It is much easier than you may think.
This shool year, my Drama program threatens to be cut completely. This could happen to one of you next. I waited untill too late to take action. Schools may think that the Students are completely helpless, but we're not. The greatest part about being a kid is taht you imagination still wanders, and you are still very creative! You can solve these problems! Just work hard. Thanks, and feel free to comment about ways that you can have a low budget Arts program at your school.

OH YEAH! Go Carrie B.! Finally, somebody else realizes this important problem! People need to understand that ART is as important (and probably more important) as academics. The arts programs at our school are just fine, but I can't say the same for other schools across the country. Did you hear about the Battle of the Bands competition? It was a contest in which kids had to post a video of their school's music program and a video of their band/chorus on a website. The winner got to perform in front of Congress as part of the Save the Music campaign. It's over now, but you can still see the videos! Go to Google and look up "Dosomething.org battle" and click on the first link. I wish you luck!!! GO DRAMA PROGRAMS!
(Sorry if I bring this thread to the bottom....)

Thank you, Writing warrior! I was worried that no one really cared about what I do, but now I can feel better! Another thing I forgot to mention is that The Arts programs are being cut so that schools can keep their precious sports programs. THE ARTS ARE PRECIOUS TOO, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Anyways, thanks for posting.
Yes, the arts are precious. They can be enjoyed for life and contribute to a person's well-being and that of the community, too.

I just now saw this thread for the first time and am very sorry I didn't see it before!!!! To the sports/arts issue, I can't believe people think football is more important to education than the arts!!!!!! I found this while searching the money issue of sports/arts on google:
Only a small amount of students take part in high school sports programs. Or allowed to if they make the cut! Yet almost every school has a sports complex the same size as (or bigger than) the actual school buildings! The class rooms are stuffed or over stuffed.
Way more money seems to be spent on the few who play games then on the students actual educations.
I'd like to add that in music programs--band, orchestra, choir--no one "sits on the bench." Everyone participates! And you can enjoy music for the rest of your life.

@Admin: And you can get injured in sports, and they conjure up nasty competitive feelings!

Thanks, Admin. :) I second that. I was in choir in 4th grade, and this past school year I was in piano lessons, and I had so much fun in both. Plus, my school has all school musicals that everyone participates in, and we have 2 of those a year instead of having a drama club. I like that everyone is involved, and it gives everyone a chance to be creative.
Besides being *I'm saying this is a VERY sarcastic voice* totally athletic, I also LOVE football. *serious voice now:* I think sports are ok, but they aren't really my thing. I like the arts better. I still exercise a lot, (my school has P.E. every day and it has a swimming pool in which we swim in during P.E. time on Mondays and Wednesdays.) (I <3 my school) but I'm not really into sports.

GAH!! This makes me so mad! At my old school, we used to have a band teacher. But now we don't. He wasn't fired, he quit because the school wasn't paying him enough money, because they were paying it all to get new and 'better' coaches and counselors. And then my music teacher left, but that's because she was moving...so I guess that that doesn't contribute to the conversation here... And then the art teacher, only the elementary schoolers got to do art, not the middle schoolers. I don't know why, but we didn't.
Every summer I go to this acting camp with my brother and neighbors, but this year he couldn't go because he had too much basketball going on at the time. So one of the counselors asked me why he wasn't here, I told him too much B-Ball, and guess what he said? "With basketball in the NBA, once you hit 30 you're out. But with acting, you could do it your whole life." EXACTLY!!!!!
That is my point.
