Happy/Sad from The Addams Family

by Andrew Lippa

Right and wrong, who's to say which we should refuse?

All we know, love survives either way we choose.

Here you are at the edge, go ahead and fall.

Don't resist; I insist love still conquers all.

I'm feeling happy, I'm feeling sad.

A little childish, a little dad.

I think of all the days you've known.

All the ways you've grown.

See you on your own, and then

I'm feeling happy and sad again.

I think I'm rested, but then I'm tired.

Today requested, tomorrow fired.

And now a boy says he adores

She who once was yours.

How can I ignore such news?

I'm sad and happy, why should I choose?

Life is full of contradictions, every inch a mile.

And the moment we start weeping

That's when we should smile.

In every Heaven, you'll find some Hell.

And there's a welcome in each farewell.

Life can be harsh, the future strict

Who would dare predict?

And the boy you've picked, not bad.

So let's be happy

Forever happy

Completely happy...

And a tiny bit sad

I seriously love Nathan Lane. Seriously. And the Addams Family. And this song.

Everyone, please give the name of the song and writer/composer for any lyrics you post, so due credit is given. Thanks.

I met a man of two feet tall

This man was quite ambitious

In a world that is so vicious

To us all

I said, "Hi"

As he replied,

"Listen to these words that I have

Lived by my whole life;

You're only as tall

As your heart will let you be

And your only as small

As the world will make you seem

And when the going gets rough

And you feel like you may fall

Just look on the bright side

You're roughly six feet tall"

I met a man of twelve feet tall

He towered like a giant

In a world that was defiant

Of his height

I said, "Hi"

As he replied

He said, "Listen to these words that I have

Dreaded my whole life:

You're only as tall

As your heart will let you be

And
your only as small

As the world will make you seem

And when
the going gets rough

And you feel like you may fall

Just
look on the bright side

You're roughly six feet tall."

I am a man of six feet tall

Just looking for some answers

In a world that answers

None of them at all

I'll say, "Hi"

But not reply

To the letters that you write

Because I've found some piece of mind

'Cause I'm only as tall

As my heart will let me be

And I'm only as small

As the world will make me seem

And when the going gets rough

And I feel like I may fall

I'll look on the bright side

I'm roughly six feet tall."

[BALLADEER]

Czolgosz, working man

Born in the middle of Michigan

Woke with a thought and away he ran

To the Pan-American exposition

In Buffalo

In Buffalo

Saw all of a sudden how things were run

Said, "Time's a-wastin' it's nineteen-one,

Some men have everything and some have none

So rise and shine!

In the USA you can work your way

To the head of the line!"

[PROPRIETOR] (spoken)

Single line, ladies and gentlemen! Line forms here to see the president of the United States! Single lines to shake hands with President William McKinley!

[BALLADEER]

Czolgosz, quiet man

Worked out a quiet and simple plan

Strolled in that morning all spic-and-span

To the temple of music by the tower of light

At the Pan-American exposition

in Buffalo

In Buffalo

Saw Bill McKinley there in the sun

Heard Bill McKinley say, "Folks, have fun!

Some men have everything and some have none

But that's just fine!

In the USA you can work your way

To the head of the line!"

[FAIRGOERS]

Big Bill!

[BALLADEER]

Gave 'em a thrill--

[FAIRGOERS]

Big Bill!

[BALLADEER]

Sold 'em a bill--

[FAIRGOERS]

Big Bill!

[FAIRGOER 1] (spoken)

Doesn't the president look marvelous? So round and prosperous!

[FAIRGOER 2] (spoken)

Do you know what his favourite dish is? It was in the papers-- beef!

[FAIRGOER 3] (spoken)

I'm told that in his spare time he enjoys collecting coins!

[BALLADEER]

Czolgosz, angry man

Said, "I will do what a poor man can

Yes, and there's nowhere more fitting than

In the temple of music by the tower of light

Between the fountain of abundance and the court of lilies

At the great Pan-American exposition

In Buffalo

In Buffalo!"

(The Ballad of Czolgosz, from Assassins, by Stephen Sondheim)

Funfact: This song is historically accurate.

Another funfact: There are a grand total of five different rhymes in this song (-an, -ine, -ay, -un, and -ill).

This is further proof that Sondheim is an utter genius

I'm going to attempt this while listening to (and pausing) said song and also from memory. Wish me luck! :P

When she was 22, her future looked bright.

She's nearly 30 now and she's, out every night.

I see that look in her face and she's, got that look in her, eye

She's thinking, "How did I get here?", and wonderin', why.

It's sad but it's true how society says, her life is already over.

There's nothing to do and there's nothing to, say.

'Til the man of her dreams comes along, picks her up, and puts her over (something) shoulder.

It seems so unlikely and this day and eh.

22 sung by Lily Allen (an awesome British person!) and written by Lily Allen and Greg Kurstin. (according to Wikipedia)

That ^ is just 1:00 of the 3:04 song. :)

"Where 'er You Walk" by Handel

Where 'er you walk

Cool gales shall fan the glade

Trees where you sit

Shall crowd into a shade

Trees where you sit

Shall crowd into a shade

Where 'er you walk

Cool gales shall fan the glade

Trees where you sit

Shall crowd into a sha-a

A-a-a-a-a-ade

Trees where you sit

Shall crowd into a shade

VERSE 2

Where 'er you tread

The blushing flowers shall rise

And all things Flourish

And all things flourish

Where 'er you turn your eyes

Where 'er you turn your eyes

Where 'er you turn your eyes

Peaceing out for now,

-Kiwi

Rolling in the Deep/ by Adele

The scars of your love remind me of us

they leave me breathless

They keep me thinking that we almost had it all

The scars of your love

Remind me of us

They leave me thinking

THAT WE ALMOST HAD IT AAAAALL

Rolling in the deeeeep

we could've had it alllllllll

Rolling in the deep

You had my heart and soul

And you played it to the beeeeeeat

This is as far as I could get. It's only the chorus! ;)

Tonight's the night, it's the dancer's delight

It's the big sock hop rock around the clock

We'll all meet down at the high school gym

To listen to a combo that's really in

Well, tomorrow night at six o'clock

We'll all meet here at Pop's Pop Shop

To add to his array of thirty-nine flavors

This brand new one will catch our favor

And now for that long awaited treat--

Cranberry ice cream with crushed whole wheat!

And Friday's the day for the football game

It's the game that can bring us fame or shame

If we go out there and play it straight

We'll show that team we're going straight to state

But if we loose it don't matter to me

'Cause we'd be third in a field of three!

[spoken] Oh, come on now, everybody sing!

So if you're sittin' around

[echo] So if you're sitting around

And you're feelin' bored

[echo] And you're feelin' bored

Climbin' up the walls

[echo] Climbin' up the walls

Goin' outta your gourd

[echo] Goin' outta your gourd

And even if there's nothing new--

There's something old to do!

What's Happening, from Rock-n-Roll by David Cothrell and Michael Fingerut, which is the play we're doing for musical theatre. This ^ is also my second solo, and the best song in the piece in my (not biased at all) opinion. *whispers* We have six more rehearsals and nobody knows their lines except me and like two other people, and Shane and I are the only ones who know our songs. */whispers*

See what a morning

Gloriously bright

With the dawning of hope in Jerusalem

Folded the grave cloths

Tomb filled with light

As the angels announce

"He is risen!"

See God's salvation plan

Wrought in love

Borne in pain

Paid in sacrifice

Fulfilled in Christ the Man

For He lives

Christ is risen

From the dead

...And so on. See What a Morning by I really don't know who. We sang it in our church on Easter and I have seriously had it stuck in my head since then. It's a really awesome song, but it gets annoying after playing in your head for days  on end...

"Some People" from Gypsy with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim (yes, he is a genius)

[Momma Rose]
Anybody that stays home is dead
If I die, it won't be from sitting

It will be from fighting to get up and get out!
Some people can get a thrill
Knitting sweaters and sitting still.
That's okay for some people
Who don't know they're alive.

Some people can thrive and bloom
Living life in the living room.
That's perfect for some people
Of one hundred and five.

But I at least gotta try
When I think of all the sights that I gotta see
And all the places I gotta play,
All the things that I gotta be at.
Come on, Papa, what do you say?

Some people can be content
Playing bingo and paying rent.
That's peachy for some people,
For some hum-drum people to be,
But some people ain't me!

I had a dream,
A wonderful dream, Papa,
All about June in the Orpheum circuit.
Gimme a chance and I know I can work it.

I had a dream.
Just as real as can be, Papa.
There I was in Mr. Orpheum's office
And he was saying to me, "Rose,
Get yourselves some new orchestrations,
New routines and red velvet curtains.
Get a feathered hat for the baby;
Photographs in front of the theatre.
Get an agent and in jig time
You'll be being booked in the big time."

Oh, what a dream.
A wonderful dream, Papa.
And all that I need is eighty-eight bucks, papa.
That's what he said, Papa.
Only eighty-eight bucks.

[Papa]
You ain't gettin' eighty-eight cents from me, Rose.

[Rose]
Well, I'll get it someplace else! But I'll get it! And get my kids out!

Goodbye to blueberry pie.
Good riddance to all the socials I had to go to,
All the lodges I had to play,
All the shriners I said hello to.
Hey, L.A., I'm comin' your way!

Some people sit on their butts;
Got the dream, yeah, but not the guts.
That's living for some people,
For some hum-drum people I suppose.
Well, they can stay and rot!
But not Rose!

She'd tell me 'bout Captain Hook and all of his men

Who'd follow Peter with a hook placed as his hand

In those tales, bad guys seldom did win

So the Captain was eaten, and Wendy had twins

That's the story as I recall

Though I may have made up the end

Oh, I don't remember much at three feet tall

Except for when I said,

"Mom, let me go to Never Never Land!

Let me fly for one day!

Throw that fairy dust in my hair

As I pretend I'm flying away

I'm flying away!"

Well, to my surprise I grew up too fast

And that easy life of Tinker Bell never did last

So I'd silently dream myself far, far away

Where I could be immortalized like Peter one day

And that's my childhood as I recall

Though in some ways it never did end

I'm standing, well, a little bit taller

Except for when I say,

"Mom, let me go to Never Never Land!

Let me fly for one day!

Throw that fairy dust in my hair

As I pretend I'm flying away

I'm flying away!"

And though life is never easy as we as children read in the books

Where fairy dust could just fly you so far away

And all I ask is that you leave me my imagination

So I can pretend I'm flying away

I'm flying away!

And this is where I'll stay!

Right here in Never Never Land

I'll be flying, oh, I'll be dying

From love and appreciation

Where mermaids would sing

And fairies would ring

Right down here in Never Never Land

And it's second to the left, and straight on till morning--

Or is it second to the right, and straight on till morning?

In Never Never Land

In my Never Never Land

(May 11, 2011 - 4:46 pm)

The lights turned on and the curtain fell down

And when it was over it felt like a dream

They stood at the stage door and begged for a scream

The agents had paid for the black limousine

That waited outside in the rain

Did you see them?  Did you see them?

Did you see them in the river?

They were there to wave to you

Could you tell that the empty quivered

Brown skinned Indian on the banks

That were crouded and narrow

Held a broken arrow

Eighteen years of American dream
He saw that his brother had sworn on the wall
He hung up his eyelids and ran down the hall
His mother had told him a trip was a fall
And don't mention babies at all
Did you see him? Did you see him?

Did you see him in the river?

He was there to wave to you
Could you tell that the empty quivered
Brown skinned Indian on the banks
That were crowded and narrow
Held a broken arrow

The streets were lined for the wedding parade
The queen wore the white gloves, the county of song
The black covered caisson her horses had drawn
Protected her king from the sun rays of dawn
They married for peace and were gone
Did you see them? Did you see them?

Did you see them in the river?
They were there to wave to you
Could you tell that the empty quivered
Brown skinned Indian on the banks
That were crowded and narrow
Held a broken arrow

I wish I were a water bear;

Then I'd be comfy anywhere,

In a vaccum, boiled, or frozen:

Centuries of happy dozin'.

Pressure never leaves you in despair (when you're a water bear...)!

I wish I were a water bear,

Politically so unaware:

No more fashion, pain, or gain,

'Cause with a microscopic brain,

Your heaven is a clump of moss to share (when you're a water bear...)!

I wish I were a water bear,

A mighty mite* with time to spare

And little need for water, food or air (That's why I really want to

Be a water bear!

Be a water bear!

Be water bear!

Be a water bear!

*Yes, I know they're not mites, but A) I didn't write the song, B) people used to think they were arachnids (before they wrote this song, but the point still stands), and C) I'm sure that some culture at some point wanted to call them 'Bear mites.' Was it Germany? Barwurmer? That sounds about right. *checks* No, that meant bear worm. I was thinking of Acarus ursellus, Latin for bear mite. Still, they are, in a sense, not not mites, and D) The phrase 'mighty mite' is awesome, so there.

Yes, I'm very obsessed, much more than you thought; why do you ask?
