AUDITION!!

Hey everyone!! I'm really excited because I'm auditioning for a play tomorrow after school! If anyone has auditioned before and has any tips, I'd be really glad if you could share them with me. I'm kind of nervous.

Oh, awesome! A play! (Plays are my life.)

What play is it? Do you have to have a monologue for the audition?

Without knowing much about it, here are my general audition tips:

1. When you're on stage, either stand still or make decided movements. Try really hard not to fidget or stand with your hands clasped tightly. Fidgeting includes playing with your clothes, twisting back and forth or shifting your weight repeatedly. It's difficult, because you have to make yourself not do it!

2. BE LOUD. One of the most important things in theater, Ever. If you remember nothing else, remember to project your voice!

3. If you mess something up, either start over if possible, or pause for a second to collect your thoughts and then go on. This looks much better than standing and going "Uh..." or messing up more things because you're trying to plow ahead.

Hopefully those will get you started! If possible, eat a banana or a couple of prunes before your audition--the potassium steadies the nerves. (Thanks for the banana tip, Admin, I'd always eaten prunes but if people don't like those bananas work too!)

Good luck! Please tell us how it goes!

I forgot to mention to be polite and well-behaved off the stage, too--directors always want to cast people they feel will be easy to work with.

Thanks for all the good pointers, Brynne, and you're welcome about the bananas. I'm glad I can pass on advice I've learned from others to all of you.

Thanks a lot, Brynne! I feel really good about the audition, and I think I have a good chance of a callback.

Oh, good! Did you have to do a monologue?

What's the play?

If you ever want to start and laugh, just think, "What's so funny?" Because usually NOTHING'S funny! It's just the suspense of the moment.

Brynne: The play is Robin Hood, and we didn't have to do a monologue.

ZNZ: I don't have problems with laughing in suspense, because I laugh when I'm sad. Whenever I'm really sad, I just find everything funny.

Oh! I love everything about Robin Hood! Who are you playing or have you not figured that out yet?
