The Hunchback of
Chatterbox: Pudding's Place
The Hunchback of
The Hunchback of Notre Dame!
(That is how you spell it, right?)
So I just watched the movie--animated Disney version, not sure if there are other versions, but just in case I want to make it clear--and I'd like to write down my opinions on it.
The movie itself was TERRIFIC! I've been avoiding it for years, thinking it looked kind of weird, but yesterday I upped my courage, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The animation was good, the lines were good, the heroes were awesome, the villian was *shudders* what every good-bad? whatever-villian should be, and the songs RULED! I'm going to be adding those to my repertoire sometime...
It has become a habit of mine, when watching the Disney classics, to guess where a certain voice came from. For example, Pongo is Robin Hood. I think Quasimodo's voice is also the adult Simba, but I'm not entirely sure. Thoughts?
So, anyway, here are my opinions on various characters:
QUASIMODO: I liked him. He wasn't exactly one of my favorite characters, but I liked him. He's so ugly he's almost handsome. And he has a nice singing voice, too. His love of Esmeralda was doomed to failure, I'm afraid, but he gave it his best shot, and he couldn't help that she fell in love with Fivus.
ESMERALDA: I liked her. She was ultra-awesome. She stood up for herself, her people, her way of life...she was courageous, fiery-tempered, and she could fight when she felt like it. She ruled. I can't quite understand why she fell for Fivus, but there you are...
FIVUS: Eh...he was okay. I wasn't so sure I liked him, but most of his wisecracks were good, and he was brave and noble. But...I don't know, there was something about him that I didn't entirely like. *Shrugs* I don't know. He was just sort of...bland. Oh well.
FROLLO: Ooh...one creepy villian. He was actually a pretty good-bad?-villian, the cold, cruel kind. I consider the cold kind to be much, MUCH scarier than the kind that blows up at everything. And it was even crazier, considering that he was a MINISTER, and actually thought he was being good. The opening scene where he murders the gypsy woman and almost kills Quasi is really really good, and shows just how cruel he's prepared to get, supposedly on the side of good.
JESTER: You know that guy who goes around in a purple and yellow suit with belled shoes and a belled hat? Yeah, that's who I'm talking about. I liked him. I really liked him, as a matter of fact.
Yes I know he's a minor character. And yes I know he's slightly annoying. And yes I know he almost murdered Quasi and Fivus. But all of these faults can be explained away, like so:
1. So what if he's a minor character? Plenty of people like minor characters.
2. The way I see it, you can either view him as being really annoying or hysterically funny. You decide.
3. It was a mistake! Everyone makes mistakes. He was expecting spies; these two show up; they aren't gypsies; and they've got connections with Frollo...put two and two together and you (think you) get a pretty good idea of what's going on.
And anyway...*shrugs* TNO likes Voldemort. And his faults aren't so easy to explain away. (No offense meant, TNO. I just couldn't think of another example.)
I also like him because he:
1. Is a very good ventriloquist/impersonationist...is that a word? Anyway, he does good impersonations of people.
2. He's actually kind of handsome.
3. He reminds me of Starspirit (imaginary friend, for those who don't know) in that he has an annoying habit of being somewhere, disappearing, reappearing somewhere else entirely, and then vanishing into thin air. HA HA!
4. He's actually a pretty nice guy under it all. And he's funny. I like him.
OK, I was going to post about the gargoyles and Jolly the goat, but it turns out that this post is extremely long (sorry Admin!) so I'm going to cut it short here. See ya next time!
Andy P. C. says fzwg. Fuzz wig...fuzzy wig...nice wig, Andy! Are you going to a costume party?

Yes, it's spelled Notre Dame, and the other word is impersonator.

Quasi: see Wolfy's discription!
Least faves, in order:
Frollo: Although he's ne of my faves, he's...*uses perfect word* despicible.
Fivus: *belch* he is...well...goodguy, but...sorta...when someone is SUPPOSED to be handsome, usually they are ugly. And he is...*thinks* hm. Can't think of words to describe him.

@Admin: Thanks! And if you are the Admin who saw my post on DtE asking about where it had gone, and you managed to find it, THANK YOU A THOUSAND TIMES! :)
Oh. I just found out that the Jester's name is Clopin. *blushes* Sorry, I never really heard it before! When I watched the movie I missed a bunch of lines because my little sis would chatter right next to my ear. Grr.
Oh by the way, Clopin is pronounced Clopan. Like Chopin is pronounced Shopan. Was he French? I'm gonna go check...*checks* Oh. Turns out his mom was Polish and his dad was French. There you are, then.

And perhaps you might consent to go to the top, Lord (or Lady) Thread? It would be such an honor. In other words...
GET TO THE TOP BEFORE I DRAG YOU UP THERE BY YOUR EARS!
Ahem.
@NDT: Yes, the gargoyles were very amusing. Wiki says they're imaginary, but I don't buy that, because if they were imaginary, how did Jolly see them? ;)
