Your Family's "C

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Your Family's "C

Your Family's "Classics"

Does your family have a certain group of movies you watch over and over? A few special titles that someone will say "Oh, we haven't seen that in a while. We should watch it again!" and everyone else will go "Yeah!" Or do you have special movies reserved for when the whole family's sick? Maybe certain ones you watch with your mom or dad, because the other parent can't stand them? (This happens with Laurel & Hardy at our house. Dad and most of my siblings and I will watch Laurel & Hardy when K and Mom are gone.:)

For us, the "classics" we end up watching about once a year include: The Absent-Minded Professor, Chicken Run, The Sound of Music, Akeelah and the Bee, the Shirley Temple Heidi, and of course The Princess Bride.

When we're sick, any number of the Disney animated classics (Cinderella, Robin Hood, The Jungle Book) might be put to good use.

It's also funny whenever we watch one of "our" movies, because we will go around singing songs and humming music from them for the next two or three days, or repeating a line to someone who will then tell you the next line. And most of these movies have specific phrases or lines that my family members will say to each other in certain situations. (Sibling being slow? Gently remind them to move  "A little faster..." from Akeelah and the Bee.)

Oh yeah!!  The Wizard of Oz, A Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th Street, and a bunch of others, almost every year.  Other than that, we are not a movie-watching family, except for Harry Potter when it comes out.

Okay, so Amy's and my families are the only ones to have "classic" (I can't think of a better word) movies?

@Amy: Yeah, we don't watch movies all that often either. Although recently since Mom and Dad have been going to Bible study Sunday afternoons, we've been watching a movie then.

Well, at our house we have a TON of holiday movies we watch at Christmas, (Frosty, Rudolph, Nightmare before Christmas, etc.) but the only non-holiday associated movie we have as a classic is Princess Bride.

The Princess Bride, Bob the Butler, The Thief Lord.  Those are the only movies that my Mom can actually watch more then once without getting bored with it.  Bob the Butler is funny...  'Isn't Rob short for Robert?'  'Yes...'  'Then wouldn't Bob be short for Bobert?'  '...'  And there is also...  Other parts.  Everyone loves them...

I really don't know where to begin! My sisters and I have practically memorized all the good ol' Disney's (Sleeping Beauty, Robin Hood, Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Prince of Egypt etc...). I mean, got to love Disney, right! Then there is Little Women (1994), Princess Bride, Scarecrow (an old classic Disney), Seven Brides and Seven Brothers. And has anyone ever heard of The Road to Avonlea? It's one of our favorites! And don't forget Sound of Music! And this is only some of our "Classic" collection!

My family can't watch movies together due to my brother knowing every single word and ruining it for us. Lol! We have tons of holiday movies that we watch, but I must say I'm no better than my big brother with these.

Oh yeah, my sister and I watch that one movie Anastasia all the time, due to the fact we were obsessed with it when we were younger. It took us five years to find it on DVD.

Oooh, my family and I love classic movies, probably even more than new movies! :) We also love  old movie musicals. Some of our favorites are Princess Bride, THe Little Princess, Anne of Green Gables, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Singing in the Rain, Summer Stock, Bye-Bye Birdie, The King and I, Toy Story, (that's not that old anymore, since the 3rd one comes out today! I can't wait to see it. :)) and loads more, but those are all I can think of right now. :) Great topic, Brynne! :) I so agree with you about the "our" movies thing, after my famly watches a really good movie we're reciting funny lines from the movie for days afterwards! :)

Two of my favorites, Kimberly, are Fiddler on the Roof and Carousel. Also Show Boat has some really great songs!

My whole family doesn't really, but my little sister and I do. On road trips to Seattle we almost always watch Oklahoma. I have no clue why! :)

My two BFF's and I watch A Knight's Tale, Star Trek (2009), Avatar, the series Firefly, Princess Bride, The Illusionist, and The Prestige are movies that are kinda special to us and we watch frequently.

We sort of have "Classics."  Definitely "Singing in the Rain."  For sure.  And I used to watch "Mary Poppins" every time I was sick, though I don't as much now.  "The King and I," "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers," and maybe a few more that are escaping me.  My parents love "Sleepless in Seatle," and "While You Were Sleeping" though I've only seen the former.  Notice these are all pretty much older movies, 'cause that's what we watch.  We do see some newer movies, but not too many.
