Soo, this summer,
Chatterbox: Pudding's Place
Soo, this summer,
Soo, this summer, I'm going to New York City for the first time (which is kinda weird, considering I don't live all that far away from it) with my dad. And it's basically up to me to plan the trip (heh heh heh...). SOO, I figured it'd be quite necessary to see something on Broadway. When I looked at the list of Broadway shows in late May, I was quite happy to see Wicked on it. So should I see convince my dad that we need to see Wicked, or should I go see Mary Poppins? I'm quite bad at decisions. (Ik all of you will say for me to see Wicked, but I just want some encouragement hehe)
I think TNÖ has seen both of those shows, Kenzie. Maybe she'll give you her advice. I've seen Wicked, but not Mary Poppins. Have fun in the Big Apple and let us know what you do while you're there.

Ooh! Have fun! Will you take me with you?
Wicked, most definetly.
(April 22, 2010 - 3:11 pm)
Haha, I wish I could take you! Too bad. :(

Thanks, Admin! I'm like dying of excitement to go... We'll probably just hang around the city and go to Central Park. I'd like to go to the Museum of Natural History, too. :)
You should check out the Rockettes' show at Radio City Music Hall. And go to one of the morning TV shows (Today or Good Morning America or CBS This Morning). Get there really early and stand in the front row outside holding a sign that says, "Hello, Chatterboxers." And let us know before you go which day it might be so we'll be sure to watch!

Ahahaha, that's such a good idea!! I might have to! Depending on how early it is... :)

Ooh, have fun! I'm sure that The Nearly Ömnipotent one will tell you to see Wicked, the way she goes on about it. ;)

Although I don't know, she was going on about Mary Poppins too...
As of yet, I haven't seen either (I don't live anywhere that shows would come near) but I desperately want to see both. So I can't offer any advice... :)

...Go for Mary Poppins. I personally thought it was better than Wicked (albeit not by much) and, besides, Wicked will probably be around longer. And also, IMHO, MP has consistently better music (especially, surprisingly, anything sung by Mrs. Banks seems meh at first and then you get it stuck in your head for a week), as opposed to Wicked which has some epic songs with some rather... forgettable ones. And MP has snappier dialogue.
Really, though, they're both excellent choices and both come heartily reccommended.

As an honorary New Yorker, who also has seen both show and loved both shows, I have to say Wicked. It was more... memorable . I remember it better and I saw it before MP. The music is awesome (it is one of the only things I has on my ipod), the dialogue is funny, the actress who plays Elphaba has almost the same name as me (Adina, idina big difference). It is great.
On the other hand I love love love Mary Poppins and now I can finally spell supercali..supercalifra... superfragical... the big word. It has no resemblance to the movie and it has, as TNO calls em, ear worms, that will keep you up awake at night. Any choice is a good one though. Wicked is a bit sad Mary Poppins is a bit happier, but both are TOTALLY AWESOME. Have fun in NYC :)

What is it about you
You're big
You're loud
You're tough NYC
I go years without you
Then I
Can't get
Enough
Enough of the cab drivers answering back
In the language far from pure
Enough of frankfurters answering back
Brother, you know you're in NYC
Too busy
Too crazy
Too hot
Too cold
Too late
I'm sold
Again
On NYC
[spoken] Come on you slowpokes,
we gotta get to the Roxy before the prices change.
[NEW YORKERS, GRACE, ANNIE AND WARBUCKS]
NYC

The shadows at sundown
The roofs
That scrape
The sky

NYC
[WARBUCKS AND GRACE]
The rich and the rundown
The parade
Goes by
[WARBUCKS]
That other town has the Empire State
And a mayor five foot two
No other town in
The whole forty eight
Can half compare
To you
[ALL]
Oh NYC
[WARBUCKS]
You make 'em all postcards
[WARBUCKS AND GRACE]
You crowd
You cramp
You're still

The pulse

The beat
[WARBUCKS AND GRACE]
The drive! (NYC)
[WARBUCKS AND GRACE]
The city's bright
As a penny arcade
It blinks, it tilts, it rings
[ANNIE]
To think that I've lived here all of my life
And never seen these things
[ALL]
Oh, NYC
The whole world keeps coming

Just got here this morning

I give you fair warning
Up there
In lights
I'll be
Go ask the Gershwins or Kaufman and Hart
The place they love the best
Though California pays big for their art
Their fan mail comes addressed to NYC

Idina left the show ages ago, though. Now it's one Mandy Gonzalez.
Re: Unforgettable: I dunno. Having seen Wicked three times, and MP once (from the nosebleeds), I have to say I remember MP a lot better as far as blocking and dialogue goes. This may be because the angle we had on the stage in MP was superb for seeing techie stuff (like blocking and special effects), or because MP was more recent, but on the other hand I've seen Wicked three times and I'd think that would cancel out... Anyway, I rest my case.
Re: Dialogue: MP was funnier and snappier than Wicked, in my opinion. Bert and Mary Poppins especially were quite the snarkers. "Is that the drains, or is Mrs. Brill cooking again?"
Re: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious: My goodness, yes, it's even worse/better an Ear Worm than it was in the movie. The madness where they spell it five times in a row especially. S-u-p-e-r... c-a-l-i-f... r-a-g-i-l... i-s-t-i-c-e-x-p-i-a-l-i-d... o-c-i-o-u-s ARGH.
If you're interested in special effects, Mary Poppins pulls off the magic much more frequently and smoothly than Wicked does, especially noticeably with the (unassisted) flights (Mary has two, one of which goes out over the audience, Elphie just has one and they cheat and use darkness and smoke to hide the arm that lifts her up).
But, yes, I agree, both shows are epic. If it were my choice, I'd probably go for Mary, but Wicked is a great choice too.

Darn I forgot about Mandy. Geez Adina. Plus I looked on my recording to check how to spell the name and I have the old Idina recording. I is embarrassed. *hangs head in shame*
And yes the special effects pwnd in MP. Better than in Wicked, but the clockwork dragon thingy was darn awfully cool.
Blah. TNO has out argued me.
Wicked forever!!!
*gets yanked off stage*

Local Brainwashing Facility? What happened to Deep Space? Also, MuseBlog.

Local Brainwashing Facility = High School
You know, like in the Future part of the Kim Possible movie A Sitch In Time? "Prepare to be drained of all individuality and spirit." "Yup. High school." ...Because I'm a geek like that and love/frequently quote that show... (seriously, though, Shego and Drakken are my absolute favourite supervillains ever)
(April 23, 2010 - 9:32 pm)
Well, I would go to see Mary Poppins because I've already seen Wicked... Plus I've heard good things about it. And I can also go see Wicked again on May 11th in the Fox theater. Hopefully the Muny will do one of them sometime. But the Muny is doing Cats! And The Sound of Music! And Beauty and the Beast. But I want to see The Sound of Music, definitely. Already seen Cats... And the farthest seats are free in the Muny! So I'm going to make someone who can drive me there to see shows I want to see.
Just my opinion. Plus rambling. A lot of rambling.

Gahh, I truly hate decisions... But now I'm starting to think maybe I'll go with Mary Poppins. That's what my dad will want to see anyway. Only, the tickets are more expensive. :/ We'll see. :) Thanks!
