I saw Percy

I saw Percy

I saw Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief today!!!! Even though it wasn't much like the book it was still AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Has anybuggy else seen it yet? We almost didn't go see it today because we heard it was supposed to snow AGAIN today. And it did actually snow!!! We were playing in it, now I'm wiped out and my hair is a mess. So anyway, there was Lady Gaga's Poker Face song in the movie! Right when I heard the beginning of the song I started to laugh. There was also Tik Tok, Grover was dancing to that one at the Lotus Casino. Watching a half goat dance is very funny.

So, I read a review in the newspaper yesterday saying that it was horrible.  I talked to some of my friends who had seen a premier of it the day before it came out and they said it was good despite the fact it wasn't anything like the book.  Mostly, they were raving about how hot Logan Lerman is. I don't really care about such stuff.  But should I see it?

@Leaf: Well, if you don't care if it's not like the books, then you should see it. But if you would get angry because it's not like the books, then no, you probabaly shouldn't go see it.

He (Logan Lerman) is pretty cute, but not that cute! Sheesh! My friend was going on and on and on. *sigh* Twas quite annoying. If you'll be offended by the fact that there was nothing in it even close to the book, then don't see it, but otherwise, I would. It was good, just not even a little bit close to the book.

I get to go see it for a school field trip! *dances about* Because of the whole Greek gods thing, so it fits in with our Social Studies. Luckily for me. :D

I saw it! hahhaha. But I don't think they are making a second one. For one thing, no Thalia, no Kronos, and Luke, I think, like dies, but they never really tell you.

But I thought it was good, even if it didn't follow the book at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Thalia and Kronos were introduced in the first book. Maybe they were, but I don't think so.

i think the reason they didn't introduce them was so that if the movie did well they can use them for a sequel. But if the movie didn't do well they closed it enough so they might not have to. It was smart of them.

I WANT TO SEE IT!  And, it has the guy who played Boromier (from LotR) in it!!!  I can't remember who else... of course the main guy I've seen before....

@R~D~:  Yeah, his name is Sean Bean and he also played Ian in National Treasure!

@TNO: I actually thought the Greek mythology research was pretty good. I'm glad they had Annabeth explain about the Lure of the Lotus Flower Eaters or whatever it was called, otherwise I wouldn't have understood why it was called Lotus casino. But yeah, the underworld was kinda weird how they did it. And how they did Persephone wasn't the same as she was in the book at all! And her dress, was, er, very tight. And what happened to Charon???!!! He was funny!

What? No. They made Hades out to be some horrifying Satan-esque fiery demon who fed innocent visitors to the souls. In the original myths Hades was one of the few gods who didn't mess with mortals. He could even be persuaded to help mortals occasionally. He just hated it when people tried to cheat death. Well, and there was the whole kidnapping thing, but that was just that once and because he was lonely. And can you really blame him? He's overworked in a thankless job and pretty well isolated from both the mortals and the other gods. All he had for company were dead people! And he never had any desire to overthrow Zeus! At all.

Whereas, say, Zeus was vindictive, lecherous, self-centered, bad-tempered, and generally not the sort of guy you'd want to meet in a dark alley. Or anywhere, for that matter. Hera? She spent like 90% of her time in a rage, making life miserable for Zeus's various, um mistresses and half-blood children. Granted, she was the goddess of marriage, but even so.

I mean, the Greek religion essentially consisted of people trying to placate the gods so they would be left alone. The gods were not very nice people! Compared to most of them Hades was decent! He didn't smite people unless they tried to cheat/escape death!

If there was an evil god it was Ares. Not even the other gods liked him! I mean, he was the god of war, he made humans fight and kill each other for his own enjoyment!

And yet just because Hades was god of the Underworld people today think he was some horrible, evil, kidnapping demon who liked to eat people or something! They think that Hades-the-place was a Fire and Brimstone place a la Christianity, even though everyone went there! There were nice places in the Underworld! And kind of boring places where most people went.

What was the line from the movie? "All lives end in suffering"? IT WASN'T LIKE THAT.

And Re: Perspehone: No. She was not an adulterous, scheming, raging... um, person. No, she probably wasn't terribly happy about being kidnapped and she certainly was more than a little freaked out by it, but she wasn't at all like what they portrayed her as. ...Though I do like Rosario Dawson.

*beats script writer with Greek mythology textbook*

*beats script writer with Lightning Thief the book because that plot actually made sense and fit in nicely with the original Greek*

Yeah...Hades was a pretty decent guy compared to some. Even in the book, he's portrayed as less evil (not to mention less obnoxious) than the others.

And I agree about the "All lives end in suffering bit." Have these people never heard of ELYSIUM or the ISLANDS OF THE BLEST? Those were not horrible, evil places!

Great, TNÖ, just great. You've got me ranting about the movie and I haven't even seen it yet! :D Although I still CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!
