I love Cavetown!! Some of my favorite songs are Boys Will Be Bugs and Lemon Boy (basic, but they're really good), frog, and del mar county fair 2008. He's also done covers of two of my favorite songs, which is crazy: My Love Mine All Mine (Mitski) and Paul (Big Thief). What are your favorite Cavetown songs?

LUPINE YOU LIKE CAVETOWN?! Sorry just freaking out bc he’s literally my favorite non-clasical musician (probably, i also like some… drastically different artists. Like drastically different). Like he gets a LOT of hate online (which a lot of it is just obvious transphobia, and some of it is looking down on it because it’s like soft ukulele music which doesn’t even make sense??? And also i find Personally Offensive because I’m Hawaiian (joking, but seriously, Jake Shimabukuro exists)), but honestly his music is so much better written than like. So much other modern music??? It’s just that it has variation. It’s not just the exact same thing staggered with other things that are also the exact same, which is why i can’t listen to a lot of modern music, sadly. And… a lot of stuff is. Also the lyrics!!! “I’m a scarecrow in someone else’s garden” and “see the world through the eyes of a dog but i can’t see yellow” (Guilty); a lot of it’s less in the specific lines but the way they’re put together and play off of each other.

like i've actually seen people be like "don't hate on Cavetown! Let people be cringey!" and it just pains me SO BAD because his music is NOT bad. It's so well-written, and I am a literal classical musician, if it matters. And in classical music, generally no amount of great lyrics or cool production can salvage something poorly-written. and also people hating on his music because it's childish. HE WAS LITERALLY A CHILD WHEN HE WROTE MOST OF IT.

well i guess we all know who the "secret artist" i've ranted about this before with is.  

My favorite songs… ooh that’s hard. Anything from Everything is Made of Stars but especially Dysphoric version 2, Ghost Boys… all of it really; I’ll Make Cereal and 10 Feet Tall from Lemon Boy; Pigeon from Lemon Boy; Empty Bed; Back of the Moon - no actually all of his latest EP; Guilty; i’ll agree on frog; Worm Food; Sliipping Lately - everything is so gooddddd like there’s really no Cavetown song I don’t like. 

I will say though, I think a lot of the songs that got really popular are… i think they might have to do with why people don’t like him. I mean it’s not fair. But like Boys Will Be Bugs? Especially when written by a trans guy? People see “cringey” before they see all the cool things he does with the key (if I remember correctly, i could be completely making that up). (it’s not my favorite song, but it’s good.) Lemon Boy I just think is one of his more average songs, especially compared to the entire rest of Lemon Boy. idk.

Side note, though, Pigeon!!! (the name of one of my characters, which is… probably not related. I will not guarantee.) Idk, it’s so simple but it works. It’s just the consonance and then almost dissonance but not quite - it works perfectly. And then the way it’s put together. And all of it is just perfect and i love it. it basically sums up the way i feel my entire life heh - not quite right, something's off, something's deeply wrong but i can't tell what it is, idk how to describe it... that probably sounds bad

and I'll Make Cereal!!! I love the guitar at the opening, and all the lyrics!! "the world's coming to an end/what's the point if we can't be friends/pick me up from dungeon's ferris wheel" "ufos swim in the dark/we're fixated on the sharks/slicing fins and plucking their teeth" (sadly true, definning is so cruel) "so what'll it be/cornflakes or toast/pills or a dose of radiation // armageddon is far too close/she visits me every night/(at least it makes good conversation)"

I'm sorry I love Cavetown too much XDDD 

If you can’t tell, i’m both obsessive and don’t listen to other music. I know like every song by some modern music artists and none by most XD also yes there is modern classical music idk how to classify this 

cavetown rocks sorry. people who say he's cringe are wrong, but honestly cringe doesn't mean bad, at least musically. and yeah some of the hate is genuinely just transphobia. that dude got me through middle school because he put words to feelings i couldn't explain. if that's cringe, i don't care. i will be cringe and free. 

boys will be bugs helped me realize i was nonbinary. he's like will toledo but a little more palatable. cavetown is great!

I really like some of Cavetown's songs! They're so peaceful sometimes and calming, but their meaning is incredibly deep. For me, music has to have a story, so analyzing and paying attention to the lyrics is one of my favorite things to do.

My favorite Cavetown songs are probably Meteor Shower, Devil Town, Worm Food, and Frog! I'm not super into his music, but I quite like it. It's also incredibly unfair that people think his music is cringe (especially with that skibidi toilet thing going around) when they've probably never really taken the time to listen to it. 

can't say I listen to much Cavetown but I genuinely do like the few songs I've heard. the only one I reliably listen to is 1994 but I've definitely heard some of the more popular songs a few times even if they haven't stuck with me. it stinks people say he's cringe D: especially if that's based on transphobia... also yes the lyrics?? are so good?? like they just WORDS everything I don't know how to say so perfectly.

anyway I've been meaning to listen to some more of his stuff and maybe this will inspire me!

I even made an animation about it--even though im not the best at animations, i was still proud about it. Also, my friend introduced me to the song Devil Town. I think i should probably listen to more of their songs. Also, WILdSoNg, how did you come aross Cavetown? My OTHER friend showed me Boys Will Be BUgs, so thats how I know.
