Ski lodge The Tower <!--break-->

You are at college, and you have just finished talking to your sister. She put you in a bad mood, so you are annoyed and can't think straight. You are heading to one of your millions of classes when all of a sudden you notice a poster. It says,

Welcome to the Tower! The Tower is a challenge to test your skills in different types of situations. There are six levels, and six people are needed. You will need to pack clothes, because you will be staying overnight for several days.

Then there was a date and time and a phone number to call. You don't know what compelled you to read the whole thing, but you did. You go through the whole day without thinking about it, but you have dreams that show you are stuck in a big, 6 level Tower. You decide to take the risk, even though you don't know what you're doing.

Part 2, Day 2

When Eve had finished the countdown, Luna was already on her toes. She dashed off into the forest, and ran in a random direction. They ran through a stream, and when she stopped running she was in a grove of tall, dense, evergreen trees. Luna sat down, wondering if she had run into any crystals and not noticed…she shook her head, telling herself that there were HOURS to find one and that it should be the least of her worries. She started to comb through the carpet of pine needles, hoping that there might be at least a glimpse of the blue crystal when she heard two people talking in the trees. Luna recognized the voices of Louis and Mag, so she hid behind a tree so they wouldn’t notice her. It seemed like Luna had stumbled on an important conversation. “Are you certain there’s no one around?” Mag asked, looking a bit concerned. “Oh no, it takes too long to get to the other side of this Tower, only a very determined person could get over here, and they all seem somewhat weak. Not what we’re looking for to wield the Secret. There is always the chance of spontaneous combustion.” Luna felt bile raise in the back of her throat. Weak? SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION?? Excuuuuuuuse me, thought Luna in a gaudy accent. “Well, anyway, what type of person do we want?” asked Mag. “A smart, quick thinker. Good at puzzles, or at least familiar with them. Those are the main qualities,” Louis answered. Luna’s heartbeat quickened. Kind of sounds like me, they thought. “Can you think of anyone who would be…at least semi-fit for the Secret?” “Yes,” whispered Louis. “And I can think of some who might not.” Luna’s hands started sweating. She wondered what that meant. Mag and Louis walked farther away, so Luna could no longer hear them. She slumped against the trunk of the tree she was under, when she noticed a flash of blue. Luna stopped and noticed a little crevice in the tree bark. There, she found a crystal.

When the countdown ended, Sempreverde and Gloomy went the same way, deciding to be a team. They eventually came upon an evergreen forest where they stopped and rested for a little bit. They decided to split up to look for crystals. They both promised they’d help, even if one of them found a crystal before the other.

Gloomy walked along a stream, keeping her eyes peeled. She was looking under some pine needles, her hope dwindling, when she heard a sound behind her. It was the slightest little shuffle, but it was still concerning. She slowly turned around, but it was too late. She screamed, the sound reaching the treetops.

Luna heard the scream as soon as they took a bite of their sandwich. She quickly stood up, her hat tilting dangerously and her sandwich forgotten. Her heart raced as she ran to the sound, nearly crashing into Sempreverde. Luna was sweating and she felt extremely sick, and the look on Sempreverde’s face told her that she felt the same. Luna and Sempreverde reached Gloomy’s body as fast as Amity and Hawkstar did. By the looks of it, she was stabbed and dead. Sempreverde let out a sad, rageful, mournful howl, and Luna had collapsed. Amity was frozen, mouth slightly open, and Hawkstar was looking like she was trying hard not to be sick. Luna slowly rose with rage and fear and hugged Sempreverde. She didn’t think. She just wanted to comfort her, and Sempreverde appreciated the sentiment and started to silently cry. It was then that Eve burst through the trees and saw Gloomy. “No, no, no!” said Eve. She looked…nervous? Was that even possible? Luna was too shocked to interpret Eve’s reaction. She just stood there, her head pounding.

At dinner time, when everyone had successfully shown that they had a crystal, Eve announced the news about Gloomy. AmberFox and Moon Wolf were the only ones who hadn’t heard. Louis and Mag were digging a grave for Gloomy, so there were only seven people at the table. When Eve announced Gloomy’s death, Luna put her fork and knife down, her appetite lost. The image of Gloomy was still playing through her head, and she knew she would have nightmares.

Xe were quiet, yet xe were bold. Xe were camouflaged, yet everyone knew xe were there. Xe influenced, yet no one knew it. Xe were special. Xe are here, yet xe are gone. Gone, but not forgotten.

Later, a lone rose sat on top of Gloomy’s grave.

The newly turned dirt was wet from tears.

An evergreen was planted.

Gloomy rested.

RIP, Gloomy.
