In a darkened alcove of the world, there is a library. Shelves crawl up to the ceiling, bursting with leather-bound books in a rainbow of colors. Echoes of quiet reverberate between the walls. This place is long abandoned, haunted in the eyes of one and majestic in the eyes of another. Mahogany paint peels from dusty ladders that rise to the top shelves. Ragged braided carpets quilt the floor. There is one room, its edges curved, in the center of the labyrinthine library. There is no ceiling here, just a swath of pulsating sky, covered in a lavender haze.

In this room, there is a girl. She stands at the base of a ladder, testing her weight on its creaky rungs. There's an enchanted glint in her eyes: shades of glowing blue and green and gray intertwining. She gazes up, mystified by the thousands of ivory pinpoints that must be stars. On impulse, she scrambles up the ladder, flowing raven hair catching in the splintering wood. For a moment, she forgets about the books she came here to peruse, her mind fixed on the sky. At the top rung, she pauses. The ladder sways and she clings to a heavy encyclopedia volume for her safety. When she looks up again, she sees dragons.
