Any dancers on the CB?

This is a thread to talk about dance give advice, tips, randomly put DANCE IS A SPORT in all caps, and anything else dance related. Nutcracker is coming up. . .

I do ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, modern, pointe, and dance team. And Nutcracker. This year I'm Tea Rose, Party, Icicles and Russian.

Also, this is my first year doing pointe, does anyone have any tips?

i do ballet. i've been on pointe for 4 years! DANCE IS A SPORT AND ANYONE WHO SAYS DIFFERENT CAN GO DIE. :). sorry XD.

we're doing a "covid safe" Nutcracker where you pay money to go dance a solo in the studio. I'm not doing it this year, because my mom still doesn't think it's safe (i totally agree, my dance teacher is not the safest human in the world). I would have been Spanish, Snow Queen, Marizapan, and Arabian lead. I was Clara last year *gasps*.

a tip i have for pointe is to not be afraid. being afraid lowers your confidance and it's hard to dance en pointe without confidance!

how do you like pointe so far? i think it's thrilling.

yaaaaaaaaaaay! I LOVE dancing. I do it like every day. I've done ballet and acro jazz before. I'm so glad someone created a dance thread! I do lyrical ballet, jazz, and tap. I have some tips.

* if you are doing chaines turns be sure to spot. Looking at a spot in the room helps to stay balanced and in control.

* make sure to always point your toes in ballet. It looks really messy if you don't.

*  bend your knees slightly and lean foward a bit when doing tap. It helps a LOT.

* PAY ATTENTION IN DANCE CLASS!!!

(sometimes I don't and I miss a lot. It speeds along quickly.)

* stretch every time before you dance. It stretches your muscles so you don't become so stiff and painful without stretches.

* HAVE FUN!!! ALWAYS!!!

Good to see another dance thread! (Another, as in, there have been some months or years ago. Just to clarify.) I've been doing Irish dance for... *counts* about 7 years. It's rather different from other types of dance, at least as far as I know, but just like any other type of dance, IT IS A SPORT!

To add on to what Chickadee said -- make sure you warm up before dancing and do dynamic stretches (stretches where you move, like leg swings), and do static stretches (stretches where you don't move) after dancing.

We've been back having in-person classes for a few months now, supposedly distanced and wearing masks. I stopped going for a while because I didn't think people were doing a great job, but I'm back now, and the safety procedures are... adequate, I guess? I've been doing my best to keep myself apart from other people, so I'm not too worried about it.

My dance instructor allows us to not wear masks. We are not social distanced. i would not be able to dance with a mask on and stay social distanced. Sealed I just realized this emoji is not wearing a mask.

I do dance!

I started kind of late and have only been doing it for six years. But I got to go en pointe in January and it was awesome! My tips for pointe are to stay lifted in your upper body and make sure you have good posture. That makes it seem like there's less weight on your toes. Also, if you are dancing in a mask (which I am) make sure you drink a lot of water and take more breaks than you would normally so you don't get super winded.

Besides ballet I take tap, jazz, and modern but ballet is my favorite and IT IS A SPORT!!!!!!!!

We're doing in person. My dance teacher made six-foot boxes on the floor using tape. There's a limit to the number of people in the studio at a time, and we have to wear masks.

For Nutcracker, we're seperated into smaller groups and she's going to video each group doing their part and then edit them all together.

I'm in person too, and we all have to wear masks and stay six feet apart. My teachers also put the class on zoom so if you don't want to come into the studio you don't have to. My studio is kinda small and doesn't do performances a whole lot so when we have one I'm not sure how it'll go.
