Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

You cross the

You cross the street looking for a place to eat. You've only got $20 to spend. You just got off the bus and need food. Your parents are both working and you're an only child. You are walking for five minutes until you come across a big beautiful building. Big red bricks run along the side of the structure. There's two teal tin chairs sitting outside the building and tables topped with red and white checkered table cloths. You peer inside the window with curious eyes. A woman notices you from the inside and starts to come over to greet you. She's got a ball of gray hair tied on the top of her head and she's limping while she waddles over. She turns over the sign on the door to say OPEN. "Hello there, darling." She speaks with an assuring voice. "I'm Ms. Kendall. Owner of Ms. Bee's Sweets and Eats. My grandmother's name was Beatrice and she opened it up in 1904." "Wow. This place is still in beautiful shape." You reply. "Thank you, whe've done our best to keep it running." Ms. Kendall says. "Why don't you come inside and get yourself something to eat." You strut over to the counter amazed at all the desserts behind the glass. You look up at the lunch menu.

You have paid for your lunch and deide to go home. Your parents await you at the door with bad news. "Honey, come sit down." they motion towards the living room waiting impatiently for you to find a seat. "Gramma Lucy has passed," they say. You start to cry. Then ask, "how?" "Well, when you were at school, she had a heart attack and the ambulance rushed her to the hospital-" they stop. Your mom starts to cry. "The funeral's on Thursday at 3:00." We will pick you up from school. You run to your room navigating around all the things on the floor. Why does this have to happen? My whole life has turned upside-down! you think in your head.

Thursday comes, and the day passes slowly. Just like your Gramma Lucy. Mr. Conners (the teacher) tells you to go down to the office. Principal Myers escorts you outside and to your car. Mr. Myers  helps you inside, and shuts the door. "next stop-the church," says dad. You cry the whole time during the service wiping after every tear. Up on the platform lies a long wooden box. In it is Gramma Lucy. At the end, everyone drops some possessions or "gifts" for Gramma Lucy. Then you notice something. You see someone familiar. It's Ms. Kandall from Mrs. Bee's Sweets and eats! Ms. Kendall reaches her hand in the box and pulls it out with something in her hand. You follow her with your eyes, careful not to miss any movements of hers. Then she disappears behind a crowd of people.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

A: follow her

B: tell your parents

C: go drop a gift in the box

or

D: run home
