Story and Art
Story and Art Competition.
So, I know there are a few short story competitions going on right now, but the judging day isn't for a while, which is sort of nice and sort of annoying. And they are for longer stories. WKBU had to use multiple posts for their story, for example. And I know there is also a drawing contest going on. But I thought it would be fun to have a story and art contest in one thread. You can submit a story, illustration, or both, whatever you like. Here are the rules:
1) Stay appropriate and follow all CB rules. I know this is obvious, but I thought I should still add it.
2) Your story must be between 50 and 200 words. You need talent to make a good story that is so short, and I thought it would be good to work on that.
3) There is a two week deadline for each round of the contest. I'm judging the first round on May 28th.
The first theme is hope. Have fun, and good luck!

All the others missed Rose. But not as much as Beth. Rose was her everything; Beth was timid, quiet, shy. She stayed curve-shoulder in a notebook waiting for Rose to come home from school. Then Rose would run down the driveway and grab Beth's hand. Rose made the same streets of King Lake fun every day. When Beth was out there alone, she wondered what people saw, what they thought of her. Not with Rose. With Rose she was bold, daring, adventurous. With Rose she chose mango passion fruit sorbet instead of vanilla ice cream. When Rose died, Beth lost more than a sister and best friend.
She lost hope.
Hope is life. Life is hope.
Beth went running after Rose, just like she always did, as the last roses bloomed.

Hey, Starseeker, you can do the art.....I don't really care. Anyone can do it.
She died, but I'm fairly sure this still fits the theme?

I'd be happy to do the art! Your story gave me chills. I actually also have a clear picture of what I want to draw! I'll have a sketch uploaded by May 22 (this Friday). That should give you enough time to approve it, and for me to finish it, before the deadline.

Yes, it still fits the theme. I didn't specify if it had to be hopeful in a happy way, it just had to be about hope.

i will join.

It had been far too long since Liara had seen the suns. She stared blankly at the perfectly rigid lines etched into brick. The only pattern even remotely natural were the webs barring her escape, spun in tantalizing fractals, practically begging to be broken; as if they would crack at a breath. A reminder of the enormous ice snakes back in Ignilasir. Liara missed Ignilasir. Not just the beautiful frozen land she had been resting at before embarking on this journey, but even the arad Summers of Akhbar, rainforests of Katzul, salty expanses of melted emerald known only as “Ocanays,” or the refined stone works and architecture of Stithopoly.
Magic.
She had only managed such extensive travels due to her magic. Also because of her magic, she was trapped here in Aragul. The only reason she couldn't shred through those Brinil-spun webbings, or burst through the Brinil-infused bricks that imprisoned her, binding her very soul to this prison cell. She had seen what had happened, and vowed that never, no matter the cost... she would stay here even if it cost her life, nothing could matter more than keeping that promise.
Suddenly, approaching footfalls drew her out of her thoughts...

Yes, if you want to submit both story and artwork yourself, you absolutely may. It's all up to you.
(May 19, 2020 - 7:13 pm)
@who knows but us: Here's the rough sketch of your story! I was originally going to have rose-filled vines dragging at her ankles, but then I thought that didn't quite fit the theme, so I just added a single rose in her hand. And I was also going to have her reaching towards a rose growing in a stone wall, but I ran out of room. Let me know if you want any changes done!

NOT THE ICE CREAM.TAKE AWAY THE ICE CREAM.
*ahem*
I apologize for being picky....None of this is obvious.
1. The Shirt is really the only problem (except for the other rose/Rose).
Rose's shirts are baggy and plain. Not whatever...that is. With NO ICE CREAM.
2. Except for the glasses. She wears round glasses.
3. And if you can get the other rose on there, do it.
Thank you.

Haha, I get it; I can be super picky about art too...

Would you mind if I redrew it digitally? It would look pretty much the same, but I would resize the sketch so that all your changes would fit properly, and I could fix the anatomy a little easier. And by the "other rose" that you want me to add, do you mean the rose on a stone wall? And does that mean you want me to remove the one in her hand? And while we're at it, do you have any ideas or opinions as to the coloring?

Keep them both, I think. Coloring? Beth is very pale. And wears dark colors. Do it digitally if you want.

AAAAH I FORGOT TO POST THE FINISHED VERSION OF MY ART! @Majestic Mary, here's the final version of the illustration. I'm not particularly good with colored pencils, but I did my best and I think it looks all right. Tell me what you think.
Also @Star, just a heads-up, I think who knows but us left? If that wasn't an impersonator. I just thought I might let you know bc they're your partner for this contest.

Wow! I love it! It looks great! You drew the characters exactly as I imagined them. Well done!
(May 25, 2020 - 12:12 pm)
Everyone, if you are going to post anything, please do it now!
