Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

A poem, I guess?

1. Your hair is always so smooth and perfectly messy. It's a little long and is golden in the sun and I really want to run my hands through it sometimes. Your haircuts are never as bad as you say they are. It doesn't really matter what your hair looks like, anyway. It'll always be golden in the sun and perfectly messy.

2. I know a girl who likes you. You were onstage singing, singing that one song that you always say sounds terrible, and she was sitting on the floor. Just looking up at you. And I watched that girl watch you sing that one song you hate singing and I saw it in her eyes that she likes you. And you think no one does.

3. I was so scared when you texted me those song lyrics out of the blue. I don't think you can ever know the relief I felt when you showed up at school that morning. That might have been the only day your hair wasn't gold. The only day it was matted and dark. 

4. You hate your dimples. You would run your hands through that golden hair of yours at the lunch table and pull your hoodie up over your mouth. Your dimples are charming, in a way. Just thought you should know.

5. I almost wrote you a valentine. I rolled the pink paper into my typewriter and started typing. I wrote about your hair, and the song, and your dimples, and I wished I could give it to you. I wished I could hand it to you in the hallway or slip it in your backpack. I knew that girl liked you, though. So I never gave it to you. I wish I had. I'm glad I didn't.

6. The point is, your dimples are charming and your hair is wonderful and soft and perfectly messy and gold in the sun and I'm happy when I see you in school every morning and you sing beautifully. And a valentine addressed to you is sitting at the bottom of the trash can by my desk. That is all.
