The Black Letter
The Black Letter
You don’t know where the letter came from. You woke up one morning with a panicked feeling, like you’d just had a nightmare. When you reached to turn on the light, you found a black envelope clutched in your fist.
The envelope was sealed with a wax stamp depicting a dripping candle. You might take a moment to admire it, perhaps you tore around it carefully, or maybe you ripped it down the middle. In the end, the result was only the opening of the envelope. Like so many things, the way that you open an envelope will never matter. The letter inside, however, did matter. At, least to you, and perhaps to me. But does that mean anything either?
You spread the now-wrinkled letter out and flatten the creases. The letter is slightly discolored, embellished with ink drawings of candles of all shapes and sizes. It reads:
Dear Distinguished Acquaintance,
You have been unavoidably invited to a twelve-night ball in the Candelabra Manor. In the height of antique luxury, you will enjoy fully stocked vintage wardrobes, six course nightly banquets, an array of games that will display the full extent of our three hundred and twenty-acre grounds, double bed gothic suites, and a fully stocked armory. You will find a trunk at your door in the morning. You may bring this, and only this, as full as you please with it still closing. Bear in mind that clothing will be provided. It would be reasonable for you to enjoy your stay, but I will not go so far as to say that we “hope” that you will.
Apathetically Yours,
Madame Flambeau
The trunk appears as promised, with a skeleton key lying next to it. Your first thought is to attempt to move the trunk inside, of course, but it stays put in the doorway and refuses to budge. After a moment of deliberation, you decide to pack it where it is. After all, who can pass up a luxury stay in an old, possibly murderous mansion? Finally, when it is as full as you’d like it to be, you start to close it. But then you remember one last little memento that you would like to bring with you. Upon finding the trinket, you find something else much less desirable. A form with the words “Candelabra Manor” and the candle seal emblazoned along the top. But all of the information has been filled out with, as a quick scan reveals, complete and chilling accuracy in midnight blue ink.
You stuff the letter in your pocket decisively and start unpacking the trunk. You’re not going. Oh no, no, no, no you’re not.
But it’s too late.

Okay. Glad to hear it.

OOO
SUSUPECT LIST TIME
(Yes this was what the journals were for.) If I may, I would like all of this information to be written in on of the many journals I brought to Candelabra Manor. Anything I do not know in-lodge will be up to host's interperetation about wheather or not that is in the journal.
DISCLAIMER: As the Ski Lodge has only recently begun, it is unlikely that Madame Flambeau is giving us any real clues. However, this is all that we can go off of as of now.
Without further adue:
In relative order of personal suspicion:
Jwyn, becuase she disappeared mysteriously for a time directly before the murder. However, she was also heavily injured, either indicating a struggle or an attempted murder. This would also identify S. Clockwork and Secret as possible accomplices, because they found her with no other witnesses to their story.
Rogue Wilding, because she knew the exact cause of the murder. However, I awknowledge (I'm quite sure I spelled that wrong) that this would be a bit too obvious. This would, nonetheless, make her useful for further murders, because she would be able to identify the cause. This furthers Me (Stardust), Rogue Wilding, Alizarine and Jwyn because we all brought mysterious substances that could've been the poison. However, the murderer could have simple stolen the poison, as this is seen a lot in ski lodges. I am also ignorant of the nature of Harry Potter spells, having not read the series (don't kill me), and other spell books that guests brought, so any number of other guests (who I won't name because I don't want to read through everyone's packing list again,) could have simple summoned the poison using spells.
Viola?, because the maid singled her out to hand the letter to, indicating that she was instructed to hand the letter specifically to Viola?. I think that we should perhaps interrogate that maid the next time she makes an entrance, as it seems she has dealt with the murderer. Also, the letter was signed, Unus de Tua, implying that the murderer themselves sent it. And since Madame Flambeau sent the original black letter (which, it is worth metioning, was not signed Unus de Tua), it also makes her a suspect.
Me (Stardust) becuase I tried to save red tailed panda but failed, which I could have done on purpose if I wanted him to die. Also because I knew exact;y when he was dead.
Spring Flower, because she was the saddest when rtp died, making us all want to rule her out immedeately, which would be quite useful to her if she was the murderer. And because she was the first to notice his decline in health.
Darkking, becuase he tried to save rtp in a way that wasn't drawing too much attention to himself.
Oh, and also, I will be going as a peacock at the masquerade ball, and Celeste wishes to know if Sea Glass wants to coordinate their costumes.

I'm going to the ball as a Dove and Izzy's going as a wolf
crew
No I'm not in the stage crew for Macbeth *anvil falls on my head* Ow, that word brings bad luck to all, even CBers
(October 24, 2018 - 12:46 pm)
I shall go to the ball in as a Phoenix. A blue one, that is.

Ah, this reminds me of the nights I spent up writing murderer theories for Cassy and Lilly's Ski Lodge in my own journals...
Something to add to that is that I very much suspect Agent Winter, not as much for visible evidence but for the fact that the Ski Lodge begins with her. As a (what I'd like to call dedicated) writer, I could definitely see the Ski Lodge ending with her as well. It would definitely make the Ski Lodge interesting.

I promise I haven't abandoned this! I have a lot of stuff on the real world and writing takes way longer than it should for me...
(October 24, 2018 - 5:20 pm)
@Stardust let us not forget that Unus deTua is most likely the killer, as they knew that something extremely bad would happen, thus the 'Regardless of the events of the day.' in their letter.
I shall go to the ball as a shadow. Black infinity scarf wrapped around my neck and pulled over my face, clothes are black leggings and a black, long-sleeved shirt, and black combat boots.
(October 24, 2018 - 5:31 pm)
I thought I mention that in my accusation of Flambeau... but maybe I didn't.... *rushes off to check*
(October 25, 2018 - 4:35 pm)
I think I'll go as a ridiculous mixture of just about everything. As for Midnight... HhmmmMMhhHHmMmmmMmm. Perhaps something simple and universal, like a wolf.
(October 24, 2018 - 8:24 pm)
Oh, do we get to pick what we're going as? Okay, I'll be an Arctic wolf. Night's going as a dragon.
(October 25, 2018 - 12:20 pm)
I shall go as a blue jay ;)
