Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Help?

Hello, everyone. Icy was a bit too nervous to post this herself, so I used good sense to convince her. I'll also be with her throughout this post.

I wasn't nervous!

❄Ahem❄ Recently, I've been trying to make a new AE, and, to be honest, I feel bad about it. I feel like I've been designing a character out of need instead of for actual reasons that are related to me--I'm just trying make a character to balance Thirty out, instead of an actual AE.

Thirty isn't highly socialized, and she doesn't interact much with other AEs, while she relies on them. The actual Narrator Thirty-Three's usual behavior and dialogue usually get edited out by me because, if she were to be herself throughout the entire post, no AE would reply to her (and usually, not many do anyways). My own socially-conscious self is preventing Thirty from being herself, which I hate.

So I'm trying to make an AE, so Thirty can be herself and can also be balanced out by another AE, one that's relatively more normal, doesn't go on long, narrating rants, and  actually socializes.

And there's my problem. If I wait, I'll continue to mess up Thirty (or have nobody reply to her), but if I do make this new AE, they won't really be an Alter-ego--just a bland character that has no part of me.

And you are all completely aware that Icy takes this too seriously, but she'd still love advice.

Yep! So...help, please?

The chatterboxer did need help, mostly out of her own wild belief that she needed help. It consumed her thoughts and desires.

Help.

If it helps at all I'd be willing to reply to N33's narrations... If you tell me how... *Weak smile*

I think you could do more bantering with her yourself. I do think you should make another AE. You could base them off of a friend or a role play character. That’s coming from a person who’s life and soul is writing character interactions and bouncing personalities, though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Hi Thirty. I’m sorry no one’s talking to you. Do you ever come up with your own stories?

Bland, non actually alter egos can evolve, you know! I was one, but now I’m really connected to Blue and I’m deep! Like super-duper-Mariana Trench deep!

Mhm.

Go ahead and make this new AE. It sounds like they would have your social consciousness, if nothing else, and with time they may grow. You don't have to start out with a perfectly detailed, complex character--just figure out what they say and let their personality come to you through their actions rather than structuring their personality first to define what they do. It sounds like they would open up a lot of opportunities for you. Also, I personally love Thirty's narration. Possible bias there.

Hah! The AE problem. Yep.

Sounds like this AE, whatever his or her name might be, would in general be very friendly, perhaps a tease or touchy-feely sort of person. Loveable, innocent characters often are oblivious to sarcasm. To add some dimension, perhaps you could give her a quirk, such as having an irrational fear of eggs or an everlasting love of zuccini bread. Don't make her always happy, there may be some topics for her that are very emotional (btw, this is just suggestion, feel free to ignore). Is she the opposite of you? Does she have a short attention span? Maybe she plays some sort of sport or is a contemporary dancer.

In my expierience, having a flat character as an AE is pretty boring. My first AE, Wind, was just annoying. Never huggable, very sarcastic, and always poking fun at me. In other words: a pest of a brother who never seemed that real. Defiance was a luna, a ball of light that led the way (he didn't need to develop personality for a ball of light, so I still have him. He's awesome when it comes to needing some reading light). I then created Blue, just to have another AE there for me. She was timid, shy, and sensitive. A Mary Sue, definetly and way too quiet to have any fun with. So I waved goodbye to Blue and Wind and went on my way.

Now I have David. And even though he's yet to make an appearance on the CB, I love him with all my heart. I think what helped me the most in developing David was writing a story about him where he was the main character. I did this with my friends, who wrote their chapters from the POV of their own AEs. David came across as anti-social, loyal, stubborn, quick to jump to conclusions, and one who is both a teaser and fun to tease. He has his own internal conflicts and struggles to accept another's ideas if he has his own opinion. When we first met, he thought I was an evil librarian, and it took a while to get that sorted out.

Wow. I've written a lot. All in all, the point is basically that 2Ds are BORING and HARD TO RELATE TO and GIVE YOU WRITER'S BLOCK.

2D or not 2D, that is the question. This has been a message from Spring Flower.

I'll talk to you if you want, 33. I don't mean to be mean to you.

As do I. You can chat with us whenever you wish.

Also, as for whether or not you wish to create another AE: I feel as though any character with heart and soul poured into their being is a part of their creator. I suppose in that sense, the term in itself is largely up for interpretation, so and AE could technically be like an RP character of some sort. Or you could use the idea of an AE to explore something that has nothing to do with you at all, sort of for the fun of it? IDK, I really do feel like the term is really up for interpretation. So I personally wouldn't restrict it to the idea that it has to be a specific side to your personality. That wouldn't really be that much of a character, right? It would be a cookie cutter.

So I hope that helped, Icy, and as my brothers said in the beginning, they are willing to talk to 33 any time she wants to.

Thanks to everyone who's left advice! I'm starting to (slowly) make a new AE. They probably won't show up right away, since I want to take a lot of time with him/her.

Here's a little screenshot of my progress so far--I'm taking little pieces of myself and writing them down in a google doc, and slowly assembling the characteristics. It still feels slightly awkward, but I still want to try.

...Can I elaborate on that? ❄ignores groaning in the background Great!

With Thirty, she just popped into my head one day, already a side of me that--to kinda quote Viola, because I couldn't find my own words on this--demanded to be on the Chatterbox. With this new AE, their style of creation will be slower and more forced.

Still, even though the creation will be different, I hope that I can find pieces of myself and more parts of myself to put in this AE.

In fact, the fact that the style of creation for this AE will be different excites me in a way. In that way, they'll be even more different from Thirty. That difference might highlight both Thirty and this new AE.

...Yeah, sorry. I know that I'm rambling now. I'm just going to pray that I can actually come up with a...well, not-2D character. ❄Shrugs Sorry for making y'all read my ramblings.
