Poetry Challenge!
So, last summer, I made this thread called the Poetry Challenge. Lots of people joined, and it really took off. It died eventually, but since so many of you are interested in doing it again, I’m rebooting it!
For those of you who haven’t participated, here’s how it works:
Each round will have a main theme and an optional prompt. The theme should be a broader topic since we’ll all be writing a lot of poetry about that one theme. The prompt can be anything, really; a topic, a poetry technique, a random sentence that pops into your head. The person who posts the theme and prompt will be the ‘announcer’ for that round. They can participate in the challenge as well.
Each round lasts a week. Once the theme and prompt have been posted, everyone starts writing. The goal is to write and post a poem a day, but if you miss a day or two, or even six or seven, it’s okay. The purpose of this is to challenge ourselves and improve our writing, and of course, to have fun. So no stress. :-) Of course, if you're extra inspired one day, you can write and post more than one poem.
At the end of the week, everyone will place a vote for the most inspiring poem. Once everyone has voted, the announcer will count the votes and announce the winner, who will then become the announcer for the next round.
Make sense?
The first person to post is the Announcer for the first round. As soon as they post the theme and prompt, we can start.

Leeli, if you see this can you post the next round's theme, or pass it on to Applejaguar?

Wait. I won? AH I won! Wow, I totally wasn't expecting that. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, and good job to everyone who participated. You are all truly amazing poets and I mean it. Sorry I didn’t see this sooner, I was out of town. I’ll try and post the theme and prompt tomorrow.

Oh, and Leeli, I just saw what you posted on the Superpower RP and I applaud you for it. I think that was really admirable of you to do that, I might've done the same if I was still doing roleplays. And what you said wasn't hurtful or anything, it was just respectful....
*standing ovation*

Aw, thank you so much! That actually makes me feel a lot better, because I was worried that someone might take it the wrong way since I’ve seen similar things happen in the past, but I did feel like I needed to say it. So thank you.

I don't think anyone should be able to have a problem with it, because you simply made it clear that you weren't comfortable participating/it went against your beliefs, without being controversial--I mean, I guess there's always something to argue or be hurt about, but I feel like there was nothing wrong with what you did.
Anyways....I can't wait for the next poetry round!

Okay, here we go! Sorry, I got busy (again haha), but here are the prompts.
Main Theme: Questions/Things you wonder about
Optional Prompt One: Sounds
Optional Prompt Two: Being ‘in one’s element’ or ‘out of one’s element’.
We can start tomorrow I suppose. I can’t wait to read everyone’s amazing poetry! Just a warning, I probably won’t post much this week since I’ll be starting school back Tuesday and I’ve got a bunch of other things going on, but I’ll try to write a few things.

Ahh I totally forgot about this! Is it too late to start participating?
(September 2, 2018 - 2:20 pm)
Nope! Anyone can jump in at any time. :)

Let's just...pretend I wrote this yesterday.
Day 1 (for the optional prompt sound) (it's a haiku collection)
a thunderstorm at
night--the rain splashes on the
roof and wakes me up
outside my window
it's all grey and dark and wet
and thunder crashes
dripping off the roof--
i want to go outside and
catch the waterdrops
but it's too dark and
loud so i curl up within
blankets and just listen
i wait for the sun
and for the rain to stop so
i can go to sleep
----
Sorry if it doesn't seem to fit the prompt that well.

Day 2--for Questions/Things you wonder about
i. once upon a time, she understood herself
instead of being on a revolving turntable
she had her feet planted firmly on the
ground and she was
happy
once upon a time it was so easy to see
everything, all that she wanted
ii. she lives half-in and
half-out between her
dreams
and she wonders if some day soon the
pieces will fit together or if she'll always be lost
always imagining, always wondering if she could
try harder, because she thinks she's
w a s t i n g h e r t i m e
iii. she is ripped-out pieces of everything,
patchwork, something sewn together by a
7-year-old's dream and 12-year-old despair
trying to love her life, but crying when she thinks of all she doesn't know
she wants to be someone, she wants to be famous,
but she doesn't know what for
she feels like her life will just slip away and
she won't have done anything worthwhile so
she cries
----
Note: okay, I don't even want to re-read this poem, it's pretty bad. Most of it was a poem from a while ago that I never bothered to revise, and I felt like it fit the theme. Maybe I'll redo it someday.
I will try harder for the rest of the week, hopefully!

a list of questions
why is that bird over there blue?
have we ruined the world?
what exactly is radioactivity?
can a cat love me?
how old are you?
what do you do with the mad that you feel?
am i being annoying?
why are you so annoying?
how many pairs of shoes does one need?
does it matter if my dad buys a seethrough shirt?
what's okay to talk about?
why do i love unicorns?
------------------------------------------------
Well, that was random. Also, "what do you do with the mad that you feel?" anyone get the Mr. Rogers reference?
