Namesake!
Chatterbox: Pudding's Place
Namesake!
Namesake!
I started reading this webcomic a few days ago, per my friend's recommendation, and now I'm completely hooked! If you haven't read it, I strongly suggest you check it out— the best way I can think to describe it is, like, fractured fairy tales. Except better. The art is gorgeous too.
Warning: there's blood. And monsters and creepy ghosts and a lot of fainting. If you don't like that stuff, you probably won't like this comic.
But I love those things and loooove Namesake! If anyone else reads it, I'm super overeager to discuss it with you. However, I only started reading it a few days ago, and I'm only on... book 3, I think, currently in the Warrick chapter. So please try to avoid spoilers. :) Anyway, here are some of my thoughts/theories so far.
(These are completely self-indulgent. Feel free to leave.)
** SPOILERS AHEAD!! **
1. First of all, I ship Emma and Warrick. So much. Ah. Help.
2. Since Warrick and Selva are in the "main characters" section of the cast, I have a theory: Warrick's heart is connected to Emma somehow. I don't really know how that would be possible, but he keeps talking about how he feels calmer/more grounded when he's around her, and it would serve as a way to connect Emma to Oz, even after she's left. That would not be a good thing for Warrick, though, since I'm having your heart located in another world ain't good.
However, this doesn't explain why he's still connected to Ozma and why his temperament still depends on how close he is to her. I read a fan theory that Emma is a Namesake of Ozma, which would explain this, but there's no other evidence for it. The names aren't even the same. Maybe his heart transferred somehow.
I think that Warrick could be more "normal" before because Ozma's essence was in the poppies, which were spread all across Oz. This would also explain why he kept hearing his pulse all over the place but couldn't track it definitively.
3. I found out who One is from reading the comments. Accidental spoilers... T-T He's only been in a few pages so far, though.
4. Another theory. What if Emma has journeyed to more worlds before, and the Rippers erased her memory? This also provides the possibility that the masks are remnants from the other worlds she's visited, like how the Scarecrow showed up in the weird paper-world. (Plus, how did she remember him in weird paper-world? She was unable to recall Warrick and Hercilia and the rest just moments before.) Anyway, if that's true, One Eye Lady/Creepy Emma is, in fact, Emma, but a sort of cobbled-together one from all the different pieces of herself that she's been forced to leave behind. This, too, would explain the wanting to be free.
5. I thought for a while that One Eye Lady was Alice's sister, Edith, but that theory's dead now that we've seen her face (if that is her real face... perhaps it's a reflection of some sort). Also, Edith doesn't have a head. So there goes that one.
6. What the heck. Is Chiseri supposed to be. I know he's in a human form now, but this is still bugging me. A bird? An insect? A flying Swedish berry? Why does he wear a bow tie? Why does he have arms, still? This is going to bother me forever.
7. I love Selva. Also Warrick and Anlise and Agha and Elaine and Fred and Alice and Jack and Wendy and even Renge and— I love them all.
Anyway, thanks for sitting through all this, if in fact you did. I'm desperate. Someone fangirl with meeee!!!

I. Freaking. Love. Namesake!!!
A warning: Don't read my comment if you haven't caught up to what's currently happening in the story, because spoilers. And you might be confused.
Warrick's heart was actually connected to Emma the entire time?! I was surprised when I found out, but I was also really happy because Warma! (I'm pretty sure that's their ship name. Even after I hear of reading Namesake, I'm still not sure if that's their ship name.) And on the topic of ships, I also ship Fred and Elaine, Alice and Selva, and Wendy and Travis (even though Wendy and Travis are more background-ish characters).
As for the theory about the Rippers erasing Emma's memories, it could be possible. Because Emma's father was a Ripper, and somehow Emma knew Nose beforehand, but she didn't recognize him later on when she came back from Oz. (Or, y'know, it could be a side effect of leaving Oz.)
And somehow Edith was alive? And she joined the Rippers? And she killed Alice? And will we ever find out more about what happened between Edith and the Rippers???
I'm pretty excited to find out more about Jack's backstory with the giants and Penta.
Fred cut his hair. His hair was beautiful! But then again, his hair still is beautiful. If only I could have hair as amazing as Fred's.

Yes, it's Warma. It's also Lock and Key because (minor spoilers) he's a warlock and she's the key. Also, Fred and Elaine is Pen and Knife (she's a Writer and he uses daggers), and Alice and Selva are PlumCat (she's purple, she's part Cheshire cat).
Who is Edith, again? (I should probably know, but I don't.)
(April 3, 2018 - 9:07 pm)
Alice Liddell's sister?
(April 3, 2018 - 9:37 pm)
Oh, Ina! Edith is her sister, too, but Ina is the one who turned into a shadow monster. And I'm also mixing up the two Alices...

Personally, I prefer Emmarick... Warma sounds a bit like a teakettle brand. Maybe it's just me...

Yayyy!! Another Namesake fan! I didn't read your comment in its entirety because I'm still not caught up, but I have read a lot more of the story.
I suspect that One founded the Rippers out of anger that the First Dorothy died in Oz, and that's probably why Ina joined as well. I mean, it kind of stands to reason— if someone you love died or got very hurt doing something, you'd probably want to avenge them or prevent others from meeting the same fate. It's tempting to sympathize with that, but also One is a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad person. I have a list on my desktop of Bad Things One Has Done that I update as I go. :P
I was taking notes and writing down reactions while I was reading, and when they all came into the portal to Oz and landed practically right on top of Warrick there's just several lines of "AAAAAAAA". I'm BEYOND happy that Selva and Warrick have joined Calliope! It seems like there's a lull in the bad stuff right about where I'm at, which is nice (the babs deserve a break) but it just keeps me waiting for the other shoe to drop... o.O
Also, PlumCat looks like it's going to be a Thing now I have never been happier. I just finished the balcony scene where Warrick gives Emma his coat and they have a Talk and my heart cannot take the cuteness.

I JUST STARTED READING IT AFTER I SAW THIS AND I LOVE IT AND WARRICK IS ADORABLE AND THE ART IS BEAUTIFUL!
AAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHah
Yeah, Chiseri is weird. Someone called him a gumdrop? Maybe that's what he is. A gumdrop with wings.
