*SPOILERS START HERE*
I personally loved it, but think it had flaws. There were so many great moments, like when Admiral Holdo took out the Star Destroyer. I wasn't a huge fan of Holdo, but that moment when the ship rammed it, and the sound cut out, and you could kind of feel the entire theatre holding (Or should I say HOLDOing? Eh?) its breath was phenomenal. The music, as always was fantastic. I loved the ideas put forth about the light and the dark, and the contrast and balance. Rey is someone who's parents were nobodies, who abandoned her for a few credits. Kylo, on the other hand, is someone who's parents saved the whole galaxy, who were hesitant to let him stay with his uncle to train. Rey is a light sider who feels the pull of the dark, and Kylo is a dark sider who feels the pull of the light. There stories very much mirror each other, and I love the idea that you don't have to be somebody to be a hero. Luke's sendoff was fantastic, and I adored his few of twin suns as he became one with the force.
I wasn't a huge fan of Leia's kind of weird looking force powers. I don't object to her using them, but I thought the way we were shown them were kind of weird. I will also say that the movie was too long. The Finn and Rose subplot, while very sweet, was pointless, which wouldn't be a bad thing, but the movie was already running long, and their story made it ridiculously long. I thought Poe's characterization in the movie was weird, and I didn't appreciate the lengths the story made him go to try to save the day at the cost of human life. The Porgs and some of the other new creatures I thought were overly cartoony, and gave me Ewok vibes, but you got to have some cute animal to sell merchandise of.
I did really like the way Kylo took out Snoke. It made for an excellent twist, and showed his power and overall villainy. The lightsaber battle in the throne room was excellent, and fantastically Star Warsy. Kylo's emotional instabilty, and the power inbalance between him and Hux gives episode nine some great places to go.
So anyway, there's my way too long thoughts. Please tell me what you thought about the The Last Jedi.

Why don't we have one of these yet? I love, love, love this movie.
I actually did like the way Leia displayed her powers. Lots of people are saying "why did she use the force? I didn't know she was a Jedi." But you don't have to be a Jedi to use the force (look at the Sith!)" Leia's family was probably one of the strongest in the force in history, so why shouldn't she save herself with the force? (Not criticizing your opinion, Mir, just generally).
One thing that did annoy me was some reviews I saw on the internet stating that "Ray shouldn't have been so powerful, she had very little training in the force." What about Annikin? What about Luke? Annikin was nine and he was building robots and flying space ships. Not to mention his untrained strength with the force. Luke new how to use a lights saber with, what? Three days training with Yoda? I thought that was sexist and wrong. Sorry, I'm ranting now.
I just love this movie! By the way, who has seen those Ray costumes in shopping centers? So cool!

I totally get why Leia can use the force, she is a Skywalker after all. However I thought the way her powers were displayed was a tad silly looking. I would have prefered something maybe a little more subtle. There was nothing bad about it, it just wasn't my favorite. I did like that we got see Leia using the force though.
I agree with you about Rey. She was really good at stuff, but the strength of her power is explained in The Last Jedi. It's all about balance, and since Kylo is an extremely powerful dark sider, she is an extremely powerful light sider that rises up to meet him. Also, Rey beat Kylo at the lightsaber fight in The Force Awakens because he had literally just been shot, and was feeling an extremely strong pull to the light side of the force.
I totally want a Rey costume. I love everything about her outfits. The captcha says reye, so that's cool.

I agree. The way Leia's powers were displayed didn't really do it for me either.

Mm so yeah, I didn't like the part where Leia was flying through space like some sort of fairy godmother. I think it's great that she used the Force, however I think it was overdone. The movies have never shown that sort of thing before and I didn't appreciate it. She honestly looked like she was flying through space as if she was some sort of sissy fairy godmother person.
I also didn't like all the new creatures they added in--it made it more depressing, in my opinion, and overall it made it feel less Star Wars-ish.
Besides these two complaints, though, I loved the movie. Hux is cool. I mean, sort of. In a not-really-cool-but-I-still-think-so kind of way.
I never thought of the Rey/Kylo thing that you mentioned; it's a cool concept!

I'm not quite sure what I think about The Last Jedi. I LOVED The Force Awakens, so I was etremely excited to see The Last Jedi, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I know that lots of people didn't like that The Force Awakens waIs basically a replica of A New Hope, but with new characters, and I'm glad that there were some cool twists, but there were some parts that I just didn't like.
First of all, the thing with Leia using her force powers just seemed wierd to me. It makes complete sense that she is able to use the force, because she is Luke's sister, but as far as we know from the movies, she never trained or tried to use her powers. I don't think it makes sense that she can all of a sudden pull herself back to the ship, especially as she is dying. It also just looked strange to me. I don't know if it was the position she was in, or something else, but something seemed off.
The whole Finn and Rose thing was interesting, but it didn't quite seem to fit, or maybe I just didn't like it. Rose was an interesting character, but I didn't like her all that much. I don't know exactly what it was, maybe I wanted to see more of Rey, because honestly, I'm slightly obsessed with Rey, and Daisy Ridley, whoplays her.
I didn't like how the main characters weren't together for most of the movie. In the Force Awakens, Finn and Rey were together for pretty muvh the whole movie, and Poe was with them for a while too. In this movie they were doing different things and Finn and Rey didn't really know where each other were. I wanted them to work together like before.
Moving on to the things I liked, I loved the very beginning of the movie, where Rose's sister blows up the First Order ship. I'm not sure why I loved that part so much, but I really did.
I loved when Rey was beginning her training with Luke and she really realizes what the force is and the rock that her hand is on begins to crack. I particularly loved Luke's face at that moment because he realized "Woah, she's actually powerful!"
Holdo sacrificing herself for the rebellion was breathtaking.
Kylo defeating Snoke was great. I loved the twist, and it was a cool scene.
I never would've guessed that Luke was force-projecting himself to Kylo and everyone else, and I was sad to see him die, but he went out in style!
I wonder what's going to happen to the rebellion because it seemed like all except for a very small number of ships and pilots were destroyed!
Anyway, those are my thoughts, there will probably be more becuse I might have forgot some. I'm very sorry to the admins for making you read all of that!

A quick debate topic for everybody: Do you think Rey's parents are nobodies? I personally think they are. I like this plot line because it shows that even "nobodies" can be force sensitive, not just the main families. My friend thinks she's a decendent of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is interesting too.
I loved The Last Jedi, and my favorite scene was when Rey and Kylo Ren fought off the imperial guards. I am a huge Reylo shipper, but I know some people don't like that ship.
On the topic of Finn and Rose, I thought they were really cute, and they are similar in the way that they both value the importance of people.

I quite liked The Last Jedi! I thought it was better than The Force Awakens, but possibly just because I got used to the new characters.
Dislikes:
I was pretty confused during the Leia-uses-the-Force-in-space scene. In previous films, we've never once seen her using the Force, or trying to develop it. Yes, it is reasonable that she would have the Force, being a Skywalker, but it just doesn't make sense to pull it out like that, especially when she's extremely weak and close to dying.
I wasn't a big fan of the Finn-Rose subplot. I agree that it made the movie unnecessarily long, and I didn't love Rose"s character. There's just something - a bit off. I feel the plot should center more on Rey, and Kylo Ren (big Reylo shipper, by the way. They can bring balance to the Force! The yin and yang!), and not spend half the movie on a long-winded, complicated subplot.
The movie also made Poe a little too obstinate and unlikable and sacrificing. Again, a lot of the movie was spent on him and the mutiny. Mutiny? The Rebellion is supposed to be united, under Leia. It was weird.
I could have used a little more screen time for Chewbacca!
Likes:
It was nice that we got to see Rey develop more powers. But really? She had so little training. Yes, she is Force sensitive and a strong user of it, but she is unbelievably talented after three tiny lessons.
Rey's parentry was also interesting. A letdown, but interesting. It showed that the Force can come from anywhere. You don't have to be born to Force parents - natural talent can sprout up. But I do sorta wish Rey was a Skywalker. The whole Star Wars saga thus far has been about the Skywalker family. Anakin, then Luke... I think it puts an end to any thread that really ties the stories together. Now they're just a collection of adventures in a galaxy far, far away.
I liked the new creatures, and would have appreciated some more humanoid aliens. The porgs were a strange element of cuteness in a dark story. I felt it was too strange. Just something to draw in those people who live for cuddliness.
It was enjoyable exploring Ahch-To, the Jedi planet, and finding out more about these strange knights. It was good to see the view that not all Jedi are good - so bad, in fact, that Luke is ready to end the race forever.
Who is the last jedi? It's not Luke. It might be Rey, but Luke said the Jedi race would live on by her, and the little servant boy summoned his broom with the Force. So there is no apparent explanation to the title.
An interesting ending, with the rebellion reduced to a small collection of beings aboard one ship. Waiting to see what the next movie will make of them!
Thank you so much for reading my overly long thoughts, and I'm sorry I made you go through them!

YAY! I just came home from the movie theater after watching The Last Jedi!!
Okay, so one thing, it was awesome. A little long, but still awesome!
Two major things that I don't like:
One: That Admiral (Holdo, I found out, from reading your posts) with the purple hair just came out of nowhere! Okay, so boom, Leia all of the sudden pulls herself back from space with her instantanious Force powers and she's recovering, then out pops this apparently highly experienced Admiral of Leia's who we've never heard of before! She WAS being a little pain in the rear about retreating in the pods and not listening to Poe, and she did heroically sacrifice herself in the end, but she had ZERO background.
Two: Finn and Rose? Bleh. Far too rushed. Sure, they went on this epic side-plot together to save the whole movie, and they almost died, and Rose knocked Finn's ship out of the way when he was going to sacrifice himself (I was all set to burst into tears when the dramatic music came on for Finn's supposed death), but then she kissed him! I dunno, it might be just me, because it seems as though other people like or dislike their relationship for other reasons than I came up with.
Some things that I loved:
The porgs! Yes, they gave me the feels like ewoks do, and they were slightly cheap, but still! My favorite parts with them are when they are infiltrating the Falcon, and Chewy gets so annoyed, or when he had just cooked one of them and was about to eat it and they all came with their little puppy-dog eyes and droopy mouths. <3 So cute.
I love Luke's going out/battle with Kylo. I just do. So perfect.
Yoda's ghost! His little "Laugh so hard my itty-bitty feet bounce up and down" is adorrible. Though I did notice that he did't always speak in his "end of sentance said first, then beginning of sentence said last" trademark.
Did anyone else notice in the credits where it played Leia's Theme, and the screne read, "For our Princess, Carrie Fischer,"? Good-bye, Leia. We'll miss you.
I might do more later, but right now I'm going to go eat dinner.

I know!! The Leia thing, was like, one of the most infuriating part of the freakin’ MOVIE!!! ACK! She should have died. I’m really sorry, but that was A PERFECT PLACE TO KILL HER!! I love Leia, but that was a lil weird... Anywho, does anybody remember the part where Kylo killed his like, classmates (with Luke) and kidnapped the other half. Think about it. What happened to them??? Just random lil jedis, hanging out in the prison all of their amazing talents going to WAIST!!! And also, I really think the director, whatshisface, made a whole different plot, instead of the regular “the world is in peril, must have a jedi...” stuff like that, and running with that, WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THEIR ALLIANCES??!?!?? After FORTY YEARS you think that at least one of their alliances would come! Come ON!! Also, I really wish that Luke didn’t die... :( Leia should have died instead of Luke.
Ahem, besides that rant (there’s much more, but it wouldn’t fit) I really *cough* hate Kylo. Like, with a fiery passion. Instead of Raylo, there should be Poe and Ray!! I am totally hoping that they get together. Like with a fiery passion, lol!
On another note, who has taken the Oh My Disney test for which Last Jedi character you are? Y’all should totally do it! I got Poe. Hes a legend. Total. Legend.
(January 20, 2018 - 10:26 pm)
Oh!! Also, who likes DJ? I really like him, but I hate the whole Rose and Finn subplot. Way to long, and in the end, it was pointless! And I also have another thing with Leia in space. Why can’t everybody else do that weird space thingy? Hundereds maybe thousands of resistance peeps died! It was really sad!
(January 20, 2018 - 10:31 pm)
No offense tuxedo kitten but I thought dj was a pretty week character. I think DJ could have(and should have) bean a pretty strong character but they did it rong.
I also don't like leia's force powers, I loved that it showed Lea's force powers but I don't think it made sense how she used them. Why can no one else do what she did.
(January 21, 2018 - 12:35 pm)
I actually liked the way the director changed the plot a little, so it wasn't "the galaxy is doomed, the Jedi save us all." I like how now it's more about the resistance than the Jedi. Hey, the Jedi used their powers for good. But where they really that good?
(January 21, 2018 - 3:17 pm)
Oh, and one more thing: The first six movies were about the Sith, The Empire, then there is a huge lapse. Where there should have been peace time, and we did not see any of it! The new movies immediatly jump right into the First Order, Snoke and Kylo. Sure, it's called "Star Wars" and there are bound to be wars in it, but I would have liked to at least seen a glimpse of what the Galaxy would have been like when there was peace.
