THE SOUND OF MUSIC TOUR REVIEW!!!
Hello all!
As I have said before, I recently saw the Broadway National
Tour of The Sound of Music!
It. Was. Aaaaaamazing.
(And no, this review is NOT sponsored lol)
So first thing is the INCREDIBLE cast:
Jill-Christine Wiley as Maria
Mike McLean as The Captain
Chad P. Campbell as Rolf
Lauren Kidwell as The Mother Abbess
Jake Mills as Max
Melissa McKamie as Elsa Shraeder
THE CHILDREN OF CAPTAIN VONTRAPP
Kelsie Ward as Liesl
Carter Sindelar as Fredrich (*usually played by Landon
Brimacombe)
Maya Karp as Louisa
Arick Brooks as Kurt
Katie Grgecic as Brigitta
Amaryllis C. Miller as Marta
Madeleine Guilbot as Gretl
(There are quite a bit of cast members, so I can’t write
them all. The website has the rest of the cast and the roles they normally
play. However, the role of Sister Maragaretta was played by the understudy and I can’t remember who
it was, nor does the playbill list her understudy. Sorry about that! * She's normally played by Allison Macri.)
Anyways, the entire show was incredible!
Jill had a really pretty voice. She sounded almost like a
Disney Princess! (Her bio stated that she was Belle’s understudy in the Beauty and the Beast tour.) Mike had
such a powerful voice and was really good at expressing emotions. Chad and Jake
were really good, too, and I could tell they really felt their characters!
Melissa had a totally great soprano voice.
Lauren (Mother Abbess). Was. Awesome.
Her “Climb Every Mountain” was a real showstopper and the
entire audience obviously agreed.
The children were sooo good. Kelsie was such a good Liesl!
At first, she looked younger than 16, but her voice is so mature! I will say,
telling Fredrich and Kurt apart on stage was a little tricky. They were around
the same height, but I think it was because Carter was the swing who covers
both boy roles. Either way, they were both very talented! Katie was such a
funny Brigitta and she’s so good at enunciating! Maya and Amaryllis were also amazing,
and they were hillarious in the “Lonely Goatherd.” Little Gretl (who looked
no older than seven) was absolutely adorable! She couldn’t get a word or action
out without the entire audience going “awww…” All of the children were fairly
impressive, considering their young ages.
The sets were so pretty! The Abbey was a bit plain, but
that’s alright, since it’s not supposed to be wildly decorated. The VonTrapp
house looked huge and you could see the gorgeous mountains in the backround.
The costumes were also great. From the plain habits to the
fancy ballgowns, it was easy to see that every costume had loads of time and
effort put in.
Overall, I rate the show an 11/10! It was such a good
experience for me, especially since SOM was the show that got me into musicals!
They’re currently in Connecticut, and I DEFINETELY recommend seeing it before
it closes! :)
