Gilbert & Sullivan
Gilbert & Sullivan don't have a thread? Atrocious! Or am I the only one who likes them?

I like some of their songs!!
For my next recital I'm singing 'Love Is A Plaintive Song' (I think it's from 'Patience', correct me if I'm wrong)
My friend is singing 'Buttercup' which we all think is hilarious...
And my cousin is singing 'I Have A Song To Sing'...
And my other friend is singing something about Tra La La-s and bothering the flowers of spring... ?? Do you know what that one is called???

No, but I think it's from The Mikado. I don't know the others, but I've only seen six or seven of the twelve or more operettas.

I don't know about the "Love" one. I saw "Patience" last fall, but don't remember much about it. (But I'm an expert on "Iolanthe"!) I don't remember "Buttercup" or "I have a song to sing" either, but I'm insecure on most of them. Sorry about that...

"Buttercup" is from "H.M.S Pinafore." "I'm called little Buttercup, " something "little Buttercup, Sweet little Buttercup I" and something about what she's selling, right?

I like The Pirates of Penzance or how do you spell that?

I love that one, the music is great! I saw in in a little town on the other island by my cabin. In one of the songs a girl swung above the audience on a rope, she almost hit my mom in the head!

When I was seven I was in the chorus of "Yeomen of the Guard," which was tons of fun. I don't think I've seen any others. "Princess Ida" isn't G&S, is it? I can't remember. 'Cause I've seen that.
Yes, Princess Ida is by Gilbert and Sullivan.

We live right near Brown University, and my mom works there, and my older brother is 20 and a sophomore there. They have a Gilbert and Sullivan group, BUGS (Brown University Gilbert and Sullivan) and we go to most of their performances (especially since my brother started getting involved with them - he's their favorite rehearsal pianist). But we missed Yeomen of the Guard which was a few years ago. I doubt they've ever put on Princess Ida, it's three acts and hard to memorize as it's all in blank verse. This fall they're doing Gondoliers (of the King of Barataria) and I hope to be involved. *hopeful smiley face*
