Dear Evan Hansen

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Dear Evan Hansen

Dear Evan Hansen

Has anybody else heard this musical? It's incredible, and honestly not recognized enough. Go RIGHT NOW and listen to it. Please. You won't regret it. It's SO SO SO SO GOOD. I'm just??Dead?? I can't even write properly?? AHHHHHHH!!

... I think I like it as much as Hamilton. :P Besides, I'm just obsessed with Ben Platt's voice. He is an angel, my gosh. It gives me chills. And Laura Dreyfuss sings like liquid gold.

The lyrics are amazing too, I sobbed so hard at Waving Through a Window. (It's playing in the background right now.)

"When you're falling in the forest and there's nobody around do you ever really crash or even make a sound?" - Absolutely killed me. [ SPOILER ] It took me so long to realize that this line is talking about himself "falling" out of the tree, which was actually a suicide attempt. ("Did you fall, or did you let go?")

It's so... deep. Scarily heartshaking. It's not lighthearted. You can't listen to it without looking at life differently. I'm in love.

Also, Jared is the BEST:

---

"Just try to take deep breaths and go on walks."

"No."

"I'm sending pictures of the most amazing trees."

"NO!"

"You'll be obsessed with all my forest expertise!"

"Absolutely not."

---

"If I Could Tell Her" is beautiful and so sad, because it's really just what Evan thinks of Zoe, so he's writing her a love letter but she thinks it's just what Connor thought. Like, Evan's using Zoe's dead brother as a wingman.

Also, "Requiem" is incredibly POWERFUL, and "Disappear" just hit all the heartstrings.

"No one should flicker out or have any doubt that it matters that they are here. No one deserves to disappear."

PLEASE. SOMEONE FANGIRL OVER THIS WITH ME.

Anyway, this post is getting way too long. I'll end it here and go back to belting along.

Is it appropriate? (Not just swearwords ...)

Yeah, it's basically G-rated. The only part that might be considered inappropriate is this one line Sincerely, Me and that's about it.

But it is pretty, like, intense subject matter, so use your best judgment.

YAAAAAAASS!

I will confess, I've only listened to 3 songs, but I definitely want to listen to more. Dear Evan Hansen (the song) is really funny.

There are SO MANY AWSOME MUSICALS coming out!!!!!!!!

-Anastasia (ever watched the movie? it's now a musical version! eeeee! can't wait for OCR)

-Amelie (STARRING PHILLIPA SOO. NEED I SAY MORE???? can't wait for OCR! I love Times are Hard for Dreamers)

-Come From Away. It's in Toronto. Listen to Me And the Sky first, to get a feel for it....it's SO GOOD!!!!!!!!

After listening to that song like 5 times I sat down and listened to the whole thing on YouTube (took a lot of digging, but I found a compelte soundtrack playlist)

I wasn't expecting much from it, but it was actually an amazing story, and some of the messages really hold true for what's going on in the world today. Funny, fun music, but at times serious/VERY emotional...I listened to it straight through, and I could imagine all the characters, and every setting and piece of action....I feel like I've seen the show! Lovely music. Highly reccommend it....it's appropriate too. They say the s-word once but that's about it.

And so many more! Aaaaaaaaah!!!!! Every day I'm listening to amazing Broadway soundtrack.

Also: there was recently this event called MisCast, basically this concert/get-together thing where a bunch of Broadway stars (esoecially of recent/ongoing musicals) perform songs from characters "they would never get cast as." Some of the songs are recent, some older....

A lot of times it'll be gender-swapped, like Mandy Gonzales (from In the Heights) singing Waving Through a Window. Or sometimes they're not gender swapped, but still cool. You can watch them online. I liked some more than others.

*Correction: I meant to say Sincerely, Me, not "Dear Evan Hansen the song" XD

Yeeessss Abi I was just about to make a thread about this!!! It look like you beat me to it XD I've been listening it for about a week now and it's so good! Sincerely Me is hilarious, Waving Through a Window is amazing, You Will Be Found gives me chills... I will gladly fangirl with you! It's now been a year since I started listening to Hamilton, and since then all I ever listen to is musicals. I had a friend sleep over a few days ago, and by the time she left we could not stop singing it. I totally agree with you about Jared, too:

"I like my parents-"

"Who says that???"

"I love my parents but each day's another fight."

And I also kind of like Connor, even though he was a jerk to Evan. I don't know why, but... I kind of feel bad for him.

Also, @..., yes it is very inappropriate. If Hamilton makes you uncomfortable, definitely do not listen to it. It can be very dark. But if you get past that it is an amazing show and you will love it.

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DEAR EVAN HANSEN'S THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a friend who actually saw it!!! And, although I'm still undecided about what play's music I like better, If I had to pick Hamilton or Dear Evan Hansen, like if only one could exist, I would pick Dear Evan hansen. It's just so much more relevent and completely relatable.
