Audition help...

~

Hi everybody, it's me, elementgirl. I am going to be in my town's junior play, Into the Woods Jr. Auditions are on Tuesday, and I'm really nervous. Does anyone have any tips for me?

Thanks in advance,

elementgirl

First off, breathe. This one audition will not decide your entire acting career, and you'll do fine. Second of all, make sure you're as prepared as you can be. If you haven't already done this, try to find a copy of the script somewhere, and look over lines. Listen to the soundtrack and see if you can sing along. Find the sheet music for the songs, and try to sing them. If you or a family member can play piano, plunk out the parts. Thirdly, be helpful and positive at the audition. They need someone to read for villager number three? Volunteer! Follow directions carefully, and be friendly. Directors are looking for people they can work with. Remember, you're amazing and talented, and you will do amazing. I hope at least some of this was helpful. :)

Good luck, Elementgirl! Unfortunately, I am terrible at giving tips on pretty much everything. All I can say  is, good luck, try your best, and we're proud of you no matter what.

First and most importantly, remember to have confidence! Build yourself up, stand firm, smile, and don't lose heart. If you are singing, know your song FRONT AND BACK. Older CBers will know that I totally forgot my song during an autition, but recovered quickly and still got a part (they know because I whined about it on this thread: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/downtoearth/node/229565). I'm sure you will do great! Remember to speak slowly and clearly. If you are so nervous that you "freeze," look for help. No, I'm serious. If you're wearing a special ring or necklace, focus on why that is special to you, or look for an encouraging smile from an audience if you are being watched. If you're anything like me, that warm feeling you get from a smile or memory should completely thaw your freeze.

Hope your audition is eptacular!!

I've done auditions before, and they are not as bad if you practice a lot.  This way if you freeze up, then you kind of just keep going because you remember it so well.  I don't know if I explained that well enough...Also, finding the play you're doing on a website is very  helpful.  You can see other examples of people acting the same character, and gain ideas on what body language to use or maybe an accent to do.

Hope I helped!

Good luck finding out your part elementgirl! I guess by now you've already auditioned and I'm too late to give advice, but I hope you get who you wanted! I just finished my musical last weekend and it was so much fun!

I think I did pretty well; DiamondBright did much better, though. We don't find out our parts until Thursday morning..... THE SUSPENSE!!!!!

Well, thanks everyone. I will post the results on Thursday morning as soon as I get them, I promise.
