Movie Reccomendations!!!!!
I'm sure we all have those nights after school where all we really want is to watch our favorite TV show, which are almost never on at a good time (Tuesday nights for The Flash? That's when my parents' watch Fixer Upper! Bummer), but there are also those lonely Saturdays where you really want to watch a movie. Where am I going with this??? I'm not really sure. BUT ANYWAY, what are your favorite movies? Please give an age reccomendation, genre, and optional short summary.
I'm going to break this up into two main catagories: animation and none animation. I will probably remember more movies to add to my list at the most inconvient times, so this is not a complete list of favorite movies in any way. I'll add what I forgot in the comments. Now, to business! These are in no particular order, I just write as I remember. I will be using the Hamilton Scale (because almost everyone is familiar with H) which is explained on my Princess Mononoke thread.
Animation.
Subcatagories: Disney style, non-Disney, Anime.
Anime:
1. Wolf Children. My rating: 13+
The story of a mother raising her half-human half-wolf children. Not a typical werewolf story and very sweet and sad. It's a really great story, and in the end, the children (Yuki and Ame) have to decide whether they want to be wolves or humans.
3 on the Hamilton Scale for language.
1 on the Hamilton Scale for violence (seriously, there is pretty much none).
9 on the Hamilton scale for romance (and it's all crammed into the beginning, not spaced out).
2. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. My rating: 12+
This is a funny and thought-provoking story about a highschool student who discovers the ability to leap through time. There are some big plot twists and awesome action-y stuff.
6 on the Hamilton Scale for language.
4 on the Hamilton scale for violence.
6 on the Hamilton Scale for romance (it's mostly just HELPLE-EESSSSS stuff)
3. When Marnie Was There. My rating: 9+
I wouldn't exactly call this anime-anime, but it's beautifully drawn, so who cares? This is a well-woven mystery story that had me in tears like all the other Ghibli movies. The storyline starts slow but picks up very quickly. At first, it leaves a lot up to the imagination, but gradually fills in the cracks near the end.
0 on the Hamilton scale for language.
2 on the Hamilton scale for violence.
0 on the Hamilton scale for romance.
4. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. My rating: 9+ if watching the English Dub, 11+ if watching the original.
This is a brilliant story of toxic jungles and giant insects and warring kingdoms. I talked with someone who watched it. He said he liked it because there were lots of guns and explosions and death (he said the same about Castle in the Sky). That is true, but there is also a strong message about protecting the environment. It's about a young (late teens maybe?) princess struggling to protect her valley from all the things above while caught in the midst of many kingdom rivalries.
1 on the Hamilton scale for langauge for the Disney version, 4 for the original (the original version includes some dialogue that the Disney one got rid of. Mostly just Asbel.)
13 on the Hamilton scale for violence.
2 on the Hamilton scale for romance (unless you count Kushana's joke).
5. PRINCESS MONONOKE!! My rating: 12+
If this were a rated list, Princess M would be at the top. With a dazzling soundtrack, beautiful animation, compelling story, and believable characters, this film is one of the best! It's about Prince Ashitaka's journey to the West where there is a slight chance he will be healed of a fatal curse that is ripping his soul appart. Ah, what a warm and fuzzy film (the most violent in Studio Ghibli history). No really, it's brilliant. A unique mix of Star Wars, The Princess Bride, and Call of the Wild stirred together with a mythical element all its own. Just watch the movie!!
6 on the Hamilton scale for language
15 (or higher, it depends) on the Hamilton scale for violence.
7 on the Hamilton scale for romance (there's no kissing, but one amazing and gorgeous scene that is so intense that I'm bringing it to a seven. Otherwise, there's not a lot of romance).
I would keep going on and on with this list, but it is 10:20 PM here and my brain is frozen. I'm going to go ahead and post this unfinished list or else I might accidentally delete it. PLEASE add your own favorite movies (anime especially welcome)! I will post the rest soon!

I love Despicable Me 2! I'll never get tired of that movie no matter how old I get!
I also like the newer version of The Parent Trap (I've never seen the older one) and it plays on Nickelodeon on lots of Thursday nights.
And then of course there's Star Wars, which I know a lot of you have seen, but is AMAZING!!!
That's all for now but if I think of more I'll put them on here.

I love Star Wars! Just today we were talking about inventions we were looking forward to having in the future (people mentioned flying cars, robots, thinking computers, etc), and I raised my hand and yelled: "X-Wing Fighters!!!" I love my Class 5. You can say random things and be silly like that (but not too silly), and my teacher is amazing. I've learned so much from her!
So anyways, to continue with the anime list:
Whisper of the Heart. My ange range: 11+
Whisper of the Heart is a sweet story with likeable but relatable characters and some romance. It's just a little slice of life, like Wolf Children, only without fantasy.
Hamilton Scale for language (I don't remember any, but I could be wrong): 0
Hamilton scale for violence: 0
Hamilton scale for romance: 6
Spirited Away. My age rating: 11+
I know you might be suprised at this rating, but honestly the strange characters and excessive ammounts of blood in a couple scenes are enough to plus it up farther than the typical rating for me. I would never let some of my younger siblings see this.
THIS FILM IS SO GOOD! The music makes me cry, the characters make me cry, the animation makes me cry, EVERYTHING MAKES ME SOB, ALL RIGHT? It's an amazing story about a 10-year-old girl who is spirited away to a magical world. She meets Haku, a mysterious boy who is either her closest friend or worst enemy...
Hamilton Scale for language: 0
Hamilton scale for violence: 10
Hamilton scale for romance: 3, but it's sweet stuff.
Howl's Moving Castle. My age rating: 11+
Again, you're probably going what? With my age rating, but two young adults kiss twice. That was always a big deal for my parent's rules until I turned 13 and everything got more relaxed.
This movie is beautiful! A magical tale with action, romance, sorcery, and everything else you could ever hope for!
Hamilton scale for language: 0
Hamilton scale for violence: 8
Hamilton scale for romance: 7
The Tale of Princess Kaguya. My rating: 9+
Although this tale is slow moving and lacking in action, it is emotional, beautifully animated, and...well...very sad. It is the story of a girl found by a woodcutter inside a stalk of bamboo. She grew quickly and learned to love her village, but the woodcutter wanted her to be the true princess he felt she should be and shut her up in a castle and forced her to be a proper lady. There part where she *major spoiler alert* said goodbye to her childhood friend who she could have had a future with was the saddest and most beautiful part and worth watching the long film to get to.
That's it for anime! Except Steamboy, but I'm not sure how to catagorize it. Please add your own movies and discussion!

You have got to see the original Parent Trap. I'ts one of my favorite movies ever!
