Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

Thanks! I kinda used a different style, I didn't know how it would turn out.

The night is cold
The woman stands
Her movements bold
Against the bands
The day is done
The soldier claps
His noise just one
Amid the whaps
The sun is gone
The slaves cry out
Although they’re pawns
They have no doubt
The time is nigh
The blood will fall
And she will die
For the sake of them all
The knife is drawn
The hand, it quivers
He waits for dawn
Again he shivers
The trees are bare
The sky is gray
The world’s aware
On this horrible day
The sun appears
And all fall quiet
The woman hears
The man is silent
His knife is ready
Her skin is clear
The lives of many
Are saved right here
One life is gone
One light is dead
They wonder, that dawn
As they lay in bed
Can anyone live up to the ultimate sacrifice of one life for those they don’t even care much for?

I love this Kitten!! It flows so smoothly and I can really feel the emotions.

Well, you said about a week and a half ago that you'd judge in a week and a half, but since there are only two entries (right?), you might want to wait a bit more.

Actually, there's three entries, so I guess Claaws could judge if she wanted to.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much, Claaws! This is the first time I've won on this thread, ha.

The new theme is sky! Do what you want with it- at night, imagining flight, or perhaps even a girl named Sky! I'm excited to see what you all come up with.

I'll post judge on the 28, giving you two weeks. Good luck!

I haven’t done this awhile. Here’s my entry. Normally I’d just copy/paste but I really liked how this looked with the font and formatting, so we’re getting a screenshot this time.

I'm just sort of messing around here, but I felt I had to write something. If anything, it sounds nice. This is such a cool prompt, too.

the night sky is versitile

every since our ancestors imagined it as a vast man,

as winged horses and brave heros wielding bows and swords half-horse half-men

tales of woe

or an endless bolt of cotton soft as kitten's breath, strong as woven steel

starstudded, full of silver-streaked wishes and inconstant moons

legends to explain the miracle changes present every morning and night

a sun-boat carrying a dying god, protected my serpentine guardians,

as deep deep blue shatters into millions of brilliant hues

purple pink cornflower cherry blossom marigold gold gold

stars fade to radiant blue,

so bright you never see it anywhere but up

it fascinates us

we draw lines between the stars and stories behind the silver moon golden sun

we yearn for it, this mysterious plane we aren't permitted to go

from icarus to da vinci

we wish to grow wings

to venture into the unbroken blue blue blue

yet we are always destined to fall

we were not meant to fly

but yet we are all born with our eyes upturned

hope warms our souls like sunbeams

like constillations

Thanks for your entries, Leeli and Stardust! Both of your poems are amazing. :)

I'm moving the dealine back to May 3rd, so we can hopefully get more entries. Also, top.

If it's not too late, I'd like to enter for this latest prompt!

They say

We should never say the sky's the limit

When there are footprints on the moon

So what?

Those footprints

Aren't mine

Maybe my sky

Is a bit lower than that

Before the bright blue fades into gentle night,

maybe that's where my sky ends

For me, the stars are unreliable

They'll whisper my secrets to the moon and the galaxies

I'll reach up

And they'll turn away

Shun me, leaving me grasping the cold heart of space

I prefer the gentle warmth

Of the sun

I can shout

My dreams, my wishes, my hopes

And I swear the sun shines brighter

And I swear the sun can hear

I can surrender

My bouncing balloon

To the clouds and the blue

And send a wish up along with it

One I think might come true

My sky

May be lower

My horizons aren't as broad

But I can still find comfort

Under the cool shade of the white

Under the cheerful brightness of my star

No gravity

Floating weightless

In this expanse

That is the sky

In your same atmosphere

I am elated

To be with you

Even though there's a ways between us

What -

What is this?

I am on the moon

Looking down at Earth

Thinking I'm with you

But merely watching from a distance

I jump

But without wings

Or something else exceptional

I cannot escape

This desolate rock

Why can't I be in your sky?

Extremely loose verse poem, maybe some sort of song...?

Okay, I have a sky poem! I'm not sure how much it's actually about sky, and I'm not sure if it's a metaphor for something or if it even has a meaning beyond random words my brain spat out, but here it is anyway, since it's better than the other sky poem I tried (and failed) to write.

Anyway.

She

she is the deep sky blue of her eyes when she

gazes into the star-studded night

she is the the breeze that wraps around

her body, nudging the robes tight

to her hips, to her legs

she is the mischievous smile of

nights yet unknown, of air

not yet breathed into being

she is the cinnamon scent of her

beautifully perfect cakes

she is the peaceful breaths of air which fill

my lungs, which taste like freedom

she is Sky.

and that is all she ever has to be.
