Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

Okay, Since we currently only have two poems, I'm extending the due date until the 23rd. Hopefully more will come in  by then. :)

This poem doesn't really fit into the theme of "magic" that well, but I really like it, and I think it's kind of magical, so... here it is!

~~~
Chasing Down a Rainbow
I'm chasin' down a rainbow,
Heading up ol' Main Street,
In boots of sunshine yellow,
With an umbrella of candy red.
Tap-dancin on the cobblestones,
Jumping hopscotch on the road,
The final solo is for me alone,
With my golden spotlight--the sun!
Today, today is a grand, grand day,
To take a leap of faith.
I'll whirl into a grand jeté,
And land on my rainbow of joy.
Oh, wow, I won? Thank you SO MUCH, Shy Peacock! That really made my day! :D
Anyways, the new category is...
LETTERS!
Interpret this however you want! You can write about the letters in the alphabet (A, B, C,...), or maybe handwritten letters to a loved one... How about the happy feeling of receiving or opening a letter? Whatever you choose to write about, try to have your poems in by April 10th!
I can't wait to read your poems!
Do you mean June 10? Or July?
Hello y'all! Glad to see this is still alive! I was inspired by a Jane Peterson painting about a letter in a gallery the other day, so when I saw this I knew I had to write for it.
I tried to use "letters" in every possible sense :P
The Letter
After Jane Peterson’s Painting
A corner of her letter flutters, as the
breath of an amiable spring breeze
cartwheels through the trees.
Dappled light sprinkles the grass, and
even dares to play with the cream
folds of her dress,
gently casting soft shadows
here; and angelic highlights elsewhere.
In her face is a blank hope.
Just as she finishes reading, she
knew the garden in all its
languorous afternoon beauty
might be where a
new beginning shoots from the ground.
Over her head, even the birds
perched in unseen places remained
quiet, as her
restless eyes searched the letter again.
She let herself believe
the trees formed arches
under which a soft spring,
vividly painted like a storybook illustration,
would bloom, safe from the
x-ed out faces of old fears or
zebrine stripes of shadows.
The form makes it a little choppy, but I haven't tried to write an abcedarian in a while, so I'm a little rusty.
Oh cool! Haven't done a poem in awhile I'll give it a shot. ;)
Counting letters
In and out of focus,
Blurry lines side to side,
It's just a bunch of hocus-pocus,
At least I tried.
"A B C
Please stay with me.
It's just 1 2 3"
Mom tells me
Lights flash
That's what I remember last
Cars clash
It went so fast
Through the dust, mom held my hand, through the pain she sang to me
"Just hold my hand", she told me
"I'll sing a song.
Look at the dust, just count the grains.
It's just 1 2 3
Sing the song.
A B C
No, don't close your eyes!
A B C
Please stay with me... "
