Poetry Contest
Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!
The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.
The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*
Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?
I hope to see your poems soon!

(October 24, 2023 - 6:11 am)
Yes yes thank you so much :)))

Sorry, I would say yes but I am currently drowning in a big pile of homework and chores and lotsa procrastination, plus I've got a big test coming up I have to study for...
If no one can, maybe it might be easier if you just do 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place? Some honorable mentions if you want?? Idk, but so sorry again... maybe someone else can help?
Anyways, good luck with all those homework and tests, and hope you're not too stressed out! Pls don't feel any pressure judging!! <33
Or maybe you could just announce the winner and let the contest go on while you wait till you have more time to do actual descriptions (kinda like what BB did on the Writing Contest)?

hey! since cruciverbalist was unable to judge this round (which is understandable, thanks for letting us know), it'd be really awesome if someone who's didn't submit a poem this round could judge, in order to keep this thread going! thank you so much to whoever volunteers!!

Wow! Sorry for the wait, everyone. I wanted everyone to get feedback on their poems, and it took me a while to go through all of them! I’d like to start by saying everyone did a great job. All of your poems were very well written, and every one of you should be proud! Also, sorry about the fact that there’s many of you who got honorable mentions, and a few ties; a LOT of people entered this contest, so that’s just how it went. Feedback will be shorter than usual, again, due to the number of people and the fact that I have homework.
Honorable mentions (in no particular order):
Hawkstar! I love the metaphors in this poem, and how easy it makes it to visualize. You really captured the essence of the theme “midnight.” Nice job!
Celine! The end of this poem is fantastic! I love the theme of silence. The repetition is well done.
Swallowpoint! Your repetition is quite good! I love the alliteration at the end. This is really good for a beginner poet! Keep writing.
Moon Wolf! There’s some good allusions in this poem. The ending is very strong! Nice job with the repetition, too.
Avara C! This poem is worded so well, and I admire your ability to stick to one theme and idea. The repetition is strong. You asked for criticism, so one I would have is to work on line breaks and organization. Also, since you did such a good job with wording, I advise you to practice vocabulary - it’s a skill you could use quite gracefully!
Nyx N! I love that this poem is an embodiment of “short, but sweet.” This poem is very charming. It makes me think of something they’d show kids to introduce them to poetry - easily accessible, not too daunting, and very beautiful.
Rainbow! So sweet and charming! I imagine this as a children’s book with watercolor illustrations. Good allusions, too!
Tied for third place are:
pangolin! Great organization and wording! Your ending was very strong. The title was creative and worked very well introducing the poem. I love this, well done!
and Eclipse! I like how modern this poem is. It’s easily accessible to people our age. It feels realistic in a strong way. Very good ending.
Tied for second are:
Flamarestii! This is so beautiful! With charming metaphors, a fantastic theme, impressive word choice, and gorgeous figurative language, this poem is enchanting. You are a very strong poet; keep writing, you’re going places.
and Amethyst! This poem is filled with genuine love. The emotions are strong and conveyed beautifully. I especially love those last lines: “For me/love is midnight/and my midnight is you.” Nice job!
And in first place we have Jaybells! This poem is just generally gorgeous. The wording is enchanting. You use figurative language skillfully. The first stanza and the fourth are my favorites, but the whole thing is stunning. Thank you, and congratulations!
Nice job, everyone! I may enter in the next round, and I hope you all do, too! Please let me know if I missed anyone so I can give you feedback, too.
