Random 'Children's-show Appreciation' Thread!

Am I the only one who enjoys kid's television series? I think not-- there seems to be a great concourse of My Little Pony fans haunting hereabouts.

I enjoy kid's shows becuase they are often just as good, if not infinitely better, than the teen television we're supposed to be watching. Also, I actually learn things. I amuse myself, too, in analyzing the characters in the show-- how they are concieved and represented, how the plot moves around them, the characteristic actions and catchphrases they exhibit-- and it's funny, the way you can see yourself, or people you know, represented.

I find the best shows to be those animated in softer, more pastel-ly colors, and with more involved plotlines and characters. And those whose jokes and gags are mostly verbal, and not of the crude variety. And, as the eldest of seven, I've seen that the age-group at which a show is aimed responds better to the type I just described. A garish, noisy, poorly written, coarse and tasteless presentation only makes kids hyperactive, doesn't engage any mental faculties, and holds them in a sort of drunken stupor until the television is switched off.

Your thoughts and examples? What are your preferences, and why?

Yes, I COMPLETELY agree that children shows can be very entertaining and fun to watch.

Some of my favorites (these are all ones that I watched a long time ago on PBS that were my favorites and that aren't on anymore)

-In Between the Lions

-Cyberchase

-Arthur!!!!!

-Dragon Tales

-Clifford the big red dog

The original animated Batman is beyond fantastic--it tends to get pretty serious and dark without being even slightly inappropriate. Even if you aren't a fan of superheroes i still highly recommend it.

Other than that, animated Superman, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited and Batman Beyond are pretty good.

Also, anime! Studio Ghibli films are amazing, as always. A lot of anime isn't appropriate, so tread carefully if you are to look into it.

I agree with you that most programming aimed at teens is pretty crude and stupid. I miss iCarly though - it was like Seinfeld for kids/teens, really clever and funny, but it ended several years ago. Honestly, anymore, I don't really watch TV. The only time I watch it is over at my grandparents, and usually we just make fun of dumb reality TV shows ("My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding" is great to laugh at).

Hehe...

Despite the fact that I'm nearly 14, I still do find shows such as My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Littlest Pet Shop amusing.

Would Girl Meets World be considered a kids show? Because I absolutely love that one, mostly because it teaches really important lessons in an interesting way. Speaking of which, has anyone heard that they are ending the show? NOOO!! I'm so sad....

My personal favorite just now is 'The Octonauts'. It stars a group of highly anthropomorphic animals who navigate the oceans in their Octopod, exploring and rescuing native sea-creatures. It's a lot of fun, and has an appeal to teenage audiences in Europe, from whence it comes (that explains a good deal). Also, you learn a great deal about ocean-life-- at least I did. Really interesting organisms like the Saltwater Crocodile, which measures 20 feet on average (this is the crocodile Captain Jas. Hook was so dissettled around); the Immortal Jellyfish, which begins its life-cycle all over again, phoenix-like, when frightened; and the Aggregating Anemone, which can split itself in two and battles with other anemones for territory.
