It's night. You'r

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

It's night. You'r

It's night. You're sitting in your bed, staring out the window, searching for something lost. But you can't remember what it is, or was. All you know is that it's out there...it's important...and it was once yours.

Perhaps you never used it, perhaps you did--once, maybe twice. Or more. But for some strange reason, you can't remember if you did or didn't. Or what effect it had on you. Or...where it is now.

As you awoke from a particularly bland and boring dream, the memory that you were missing this...thing slid into your head. As you sat in a haze between asleep and awake, you stared outside, scouring the landscape that, for one fleeting moment, was no longer the familiar world you saw every day.

So here you are, staring outside, searching.

And then you finish waking up.

And here you are, trying to remember what you were just doing.

Hm, you think, smacking your dry lips. The covers rustle as you reach for your water glass, which sits by your lamp on your nightstand like it does every night. That's really wierd...I can't remember my dream. It seemed important--almost real. Your hand meets cold glass and you close your fingers around it. You bring it to your lips for a satisfying sip, but you realize that it's empty.

"Darn," you whisper. You'll have to get out of bed to fill it up--but it's really cold, and you don't have socks on.

Eh, it's no big deal. You'll fill it up.

Throwing the covers to the side, you haul yourself out of bed. With every footstep towards the kitchen all memory of strange dreams and searches leaves you, and by the time you return to your comfy nest of blankets with your full cup of water, the night seems almost normal. That is, until you glance outside the window.

Something moves across the front of the moon, which is full and shines right through the middle of your window, lighting up your comforter. What could it have been? It seemed familiar...And perhaps it's the fact that you're still half asleep, half awake that you can sense it, but a powerful force beats from it. Calling you. Presenting opportunities that you absolutely cannot miss.

Without any hesitation you get back out of bed, but before you can even leave your bedroom you notice a puddle of water near your nightstand.

So that's where all my water went, you realize. I must've knocked it over. Upon closer inspection you realize that there's writing on the carpet, glowing faintly yellow from under the patch of wetness.

The writing is so interesting you don't even realize how strange it is that the puddle isn't soaking into the carpet, or wonder how the words got there. In fact, the words don't even seem scary to you, despite their suspicious nature.

~Your Soon-to-be Chaperones,

Cassy and Lily of Lake Lelillo

How you read all that small print was beyond you. Will you go? It certainly seems relaxing enough. The choice is yours to make.

-------------------------

I'll tell you all when the spots are closed, so join while you still can!

Please note that this is my second ski lodge, and it's kind of linked to my first. In a sense, it's the next part. I don't know if I should call it a part two, or what, but some things might reference the first ski lodge. Don't worry--I'm not going to make things super confusing. I'll explain things as I go--and I really need new CBers to join in. But I also need some CBers from my previous ski lodge to come. ('Course, they don't have to join if they don't want to; I'll understand.)

Here's another clue (if you didn't catch the others...) for the CBers who were in my first ski lodge, or read it, and wanted to be in this one:

What do you get when you cross a scorpion and a sloth?

Hehe, my alias isn't going to last the day. :D

I haven't checked on this in so long, but oh my goodness, Micearenice, this is AMAZING!!! I thought I was about to die in the story when Lily gave me a glass of milk and I said "see you tomorrow" and she just said "goodnight." I'm not usually one to notice clues or make theories when I read ski lodges, but whhen I was reading through all the parts I missed I couldn't help writing stuff down. I feel like I shouldn't post any theories this close to the end but the ending will probably be some big twist anyway so I guess it's okay and people just don't have to red them if they don't want to.

1) Cassy, Lily, and Pierre are the Admins.

This may have been said by someone else already, I can't remember. It's probably really far fetched but when Pierre came in to fill in for Cassy I thought of the 3 Admins. Lily and Casy are the main ones and Pierre is the third one that fills in for the other 2. It could explain how they know so much about the CB and the Mystery.

2) Either HAB or Nighthawk has to be the murderer. (I think)

I feel like it would make more sense if it was HAB, because there seems to be more evidence pointing to him, but that sems like what we're meant to believe, so maybe it's Nighthawk.

It could be HAB because: He seemed to remember more about the CB earlier on. The sunscreen bottle in the cave that said SPF probably stood for Some Plus Four, and that was the only physical object in the cave. The others were just names, so SPF/HAB is more important. Sunscreen protects people from the sun the same way the murderer is protecting the Mystery. (that one might be a bit of a stretch) He made plans to go find Cassy and assigned jobs to other people, so he could plan for people to walk into traps. He seemed the most flustered when Cassy was captured. He just seemed suspicious for a long time. His AE is Spyro, who would give him reason to have a strong immune system, although it seems like he wouldn't have chosen such a brutal death for his AE.

It could be Nighthawk because: He talks less than HAB towards the end when the murderer is in excruciating pain. During murder in the dark, he seems to be trying to keep everyone safe by tying people up, but maybe he only did this until he found the detective and then followed and killed her.

3) The cave LilyPad finds is a portal to other ski lodges (I thought of this before the Mystery was explained so it probably makes less sense than the others.

4) This one is pretty much a brainstorm

SRYTO= story  DTHEA= death  GDLFANA= ? someone said Gandalf so I'll go with that. Legolas is Elvina's CAPTCHA but he's dead, Gandalf and Legolas are bothe from Lord of the Rings right?

In LilyPad's cave, DTHEA (death) comes after TTYL (talk to you later) BRB (be right back) and GTG (got to go), which all mean goodbye. So it's a bunch of ways to say goodbye and then death.

*bursts into maniacal laughter*

Yessssssss!!! I love hearing theories, and these are awesome, Dragonrider! I wish I could tell you if they're right or wrong, but alas...(Although, for one of them you'll find out soon!)

Excellent theories as to the murderer's identity. I can't say any more than that, though.

And I love your attention to detail & clues! Congrats for unscrambling DTHEA...I used to write 'death' as 'dthea' ALL THE TIME, so I decided to make it useful and put it in the story!

By the way, would you like me to change your name back to Dragonrider in the ski lodge?

Day Twelve, Part Two~

“I’m sorry--” Dragonrider blurted hurriedly.

Lily yawned, covering her mouth in annoyance at her sudden drowsiness. “Too late for apologies,” she pointed out, stepping further into the room with her arms crossed tightly. “The damage is done.”

“Lily, is--is all of this...true?” Poetic Panda asked meekly.

Lily stared at her. “Would you believe me if I said it wasn’t?”

Panda blinked. “I--um. Probably not.” She fell silent, retreating back into her own dazed thoughts.

“Sit down,” Lily instructed the CBers, and she was glad for their obedience. “For the record, Dragonrider is right. You weren’t ever supposed to discover the Mystery. And yet, even after all the lengths Cassy and I went through, you still managed to.” She paused, as if her words were supposed to have a greater impact than they did. Unfortunately, the CBers didn't understand immediately.

It was a bit of an awkward situation on their side. The Chatterboxers were too shocked that Lily had been eavesdropping to fully invest themselves in what she was saying. They had so many questions burning in their minds, but didn’t want to upset Lily. On another hand, she didn’t look remotely upset--only exhausted.

When Lily didn't get a reaction from the CBers, she went on. “Brooklyn Newsie is also right; the Mystery is breaking. That’s the only reason you were able to find out about it--If it was working properly, this would be continuing like a normal ski lodge, and you all would be oblivious.” Lily lost her train of thought for a second, then grasped it again. "So don't feel bad. It was going to happen eventually."

“Does...knowing more about it break it more?” Autumn Leaves asked tentatively.

“Not at this point. You can ask me questions and I’ll answer them. I know you’re dying to know.” Lily was wise enough to realize that if she didn’t give the CBers a satisfying amount of information, they’d go off to find it on their own...and there were certain things she didn’t want them poking their noses into. Lily figured that if she gave enough information on the Mystery, the Chatterboxers would stop worrying about it, and the ski lodge could continue as usual.

“Ah--" Autumn Leaves began immediately. "How do you know so much about us--the CB, ski lodges, the Mystery in general?” At the sound of this question, the other CBers snapped to attention--this was the very topic that had been nagging at the edges of their minds for days on end. "Where did you come from?"

Lily shook her head with a hesitant grimace. “Of course you’d ask that one first. It's...a long story," she said nervously. "I don't know if--"

"Oh, we have the time," Elvina assured her quietly.

Lily looked around the circle awkwardly, the object of the CBers' gazes. "So...origins, huh..." She began in a jumble. "Well, you already know about the Mystery. It governs ski lodges and it--um, yeah. Well, you know how every ski lodge is the same? Underneath all the different words, every ski lodge follows the same path. The Mystery keeps the path straight. If it was different every time, then there wouldn't be a ski lodge, because there wouldn't be any rules that would classify it. Um...get it?"

"No," Hotairballoon said, his voice quiet.

Lily gave him a sidelong glance, and HAB looked away from her.

Lily bit her lip and searched for another explanation. "Umm, so every ski lodge is fundamentally the same. They all have a mystery, and they're usually a vacation or trip of some sort. You always get some kind of a letter in invitation, and you always..." Lily glanced to her left. One CBer looked very, very uncomfortable.

I'm sorry, Lily thought with a stab of guilt towards the murderer. I should be keeping stuff about the Mystery to a minimum. It doesn't hurt me like it hurts you.

The other CBers continued to stare at her, waiting eagerly for her to continue her explanation.

"Erm, you get the picture. Anyway, some stuff might change, but most of them follow a basic skeleton. And this consistency that exists between every ski lodge is like a link. It's almost tangible, right?"

The CBers nodded slowly.

"You could even write it down on a piece of paper, you know what I mean?” She let out a nervous laugh and plowed forth. “All the stuff that makes a ski lodge a ski lodge."

The CBers nodded again.

"Well, the link is so consistent that it is tangible. Just like the Mystery is."

The CBers stared at Lily. "What does this have to do with you?" Elvina wondered.

"I'm getting there. So think about that link...the rules of ski lodges...That's me and Cassy. We are that link."

Silence.

"Wh--what do you mean?" Autumn Leaves stammered, rising to her feet.

"I mean...me and Cassy are the personification of ski lodges. We represent everything a ski lodge should be--everything a ski lodge is. We're...well, think of us as the chaperones of all ski lodges. We make sure the rules are followed. We are the rules." Then, mistaking the CBers' shocked expressions for confusion, she added, "I know, it's confusing, but that's the best way I can think of saying it."

The Chatterboxers moved as one, looking at each other at the same time. Within moments the room had burst into a flurry of conversation. How could something so good come out of something so...bad?

"Surely that's not the case?!" Moonfrost asked.

Lily looked at her perplexedly. "Um...it's the case, all right. Wouldn’t I of all people know?"

"But what does this all mean?" Nighthawk asked. "What does it mean for you to be...this?"

Lily looked Nighthawk in the eye. "I have been present at every ski lodge, to date. That’s how I know about the Chatterbox; it’s how I know about your ski lodges, and it’s why I’m here."

"You were at the farm?" Dragonrider asked, standing, amazed.

"Yes. But it's not like I was literally--ah, well, physically there for everything. I was only there in the plot.” Lily paused and blinked rapidly; then she continued in a rush. “Erm, you know. The funny, exceptional parts that really brought the ski lodge out. And the major plot points. And stuff."

"Were you at m--" Autumn Leaves began, but was interrupted.

"Guys, let's leave Lily alone. She's just shared one of her greatest secrets, okay? Don't bombard her with too many questions. And by that I mean any questions."

"Hotairballoon, this is a breakthrough! Why not?"

HAB shrugged irritably. “I don’t know, it just seems rude, don’t you think?”

"But--but--" Elvina stammered. "This is what we've been trying to figure out all this whole time!"

"No, I think we were focusing on finding out who the murderer is so we can continue to enjoy our vacation," Hotairballoon responded. "Not unearth some of the deepest-buried secrets in all of the Chatterbox."

Lily shifted her weight awkwardly. “No, it’s, uh, fine…I can keep answering a few more questions. But not too many." She hoped that this would be enough information for the Chatterboxers to mull over for the rest of their time at Lake Lelillo.
